You and me both. The only taping I have been to was Jim James solo, so I am really looking forward to seeing the boys here!

How does one get tickets for this show? I see it's announced a week before the show but that doesnt tell me much.
I'd guess it's completely random and all luck?
Got a good buddy in Austin and this could merit a visit.

Cameron

unless you're a donor ($$$$) it's a lottery.  if you don't win there is a space available line.

So I will not be booking my flight to Austin in that case.

Thanks for the ACL 2008 link. Watching this show I had a few thoughts.

First, why did they stop playing "Thank You Too", that has been my white whale since the get go?

Second, this show was great, but as good as these past shows are, I feel lucky to be a MMJ fan right now as they are on a whole 'nother level of epic these past few years. I will not say they are peaking right now, but they have hit a stride. Jim showed that even though he's not sliding around breaking his back on stage, he can be just as powerful a performer. Plus the band as a whole has never sounded tighter. The improv risks they have been taking lately have been paying off greatly. I think Spontaneous Curation really gave them a good jolt as a touring band.

I have never been to one of the tapings. Since the tickets don't guarantee entry, how early do you have to get there to get in?

Cameron

Since they've moved to Moody a ticket does guarantee entry. Much nicer. To get into that '08 taping I got in line around 2pm.

Here's my PSA in regards to this...I live in ATX and have donated for the past 2 years.

Yes, you have to either donate to KLRU to get season tickets (personal or corporate) or win the ticket lottery, to guarantee entry; but keeping true to the history of the program, they still allow entry via the standby line. The key is getting there EARLY. I've had friends get in on standby to Sturgill Simpson, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Queens of the Stone Age, etc. It's not impossible and to be honest most people don't realize they still do that.

Keep in mind the old ACL studio from their 2008 taping held ~300 people, the new studio  ACL Live - The Moody Theatre holds ~2700....

The standby line for season 41 was always slim to nonexistent, my buddy who got into Sturgill got in line @ 5 and his was one of the few tapings who had a decent line. The doors are @ 6:30 for ticket holders/donators/lottery winners and if they don't claim their tickets by 7:30/7:45 they are forfeited to the standby line. Also, if the venue isn't filled they will allow people in so it looks packed which looks better on TV (minus the mezzanine which is all corporate sponsors). They allow standby in ~7:45 to start the taping by 8.

People who have extras will also give theirs to people waiting in the standby line, trust me I've done it myself and seen it happen to my friends.

FINALLY MMJ @ THE MOODY!!!!

I would swing by~5PM.  If there's a line, get in it.  If not, start one.

I got in line for Sturgill around 6:30 and got in. The only taping that I've tried hard to get into and didn't was PJ. It still pisses me off that Lance Armstrong got in and left after a few songs.

lol @ tried hard, that kinda rejection is rough, hence my opt out on most sxsw craziness. I can't stand in line aimlessly for hours to get turned down at the door.  TG I got into Atoms For Peace popup show after sidewalk/line tailgating for 5 hours.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdBnjKglVIU

I said ~5 as a conservative estimate, for the paranoid.  I normally tell people to cruise around the venue @ that time bc it's a good gage of realistic entry

Totally forgot about that Armstrong incident! It seems like most of the corporate sponsors don't show up.  Brought to you by Dell, but their employee's can't make the show, enjoy & buy our computers lol  :drum:

PJ was tougher because they gave most of the space available tix to Wounded Warriors.

Aw man, that's really cool, you can't knock that.  Especially considering we live ~1.5 hours from Ft Hood.

Cameron

lottery is live.  if you win and i don't you have to take me though.

Thanks for the link. Good luck! Worst case is I will be waiting outside early in case they have extra spots. What time would be a good time to get in that line?

Wondering about that too. The only time I've done it was for Sturgill Simpson and I got there around 6:15 and got in.
