So he comes out for OBH.

I'm kinda surprised he gave that much info ahead of time.

Surprised is one word..  a little disappointed that it was revealed ahead of time though..  shows are all about moments..  how epic would that have been as a surprise?  No one would have seen it coming.  Oh well, this means we get a full run thru for sure.

I think the last time they played it was OBH1 (2014) and it was the first night.  I feel pretty strongly that that is the case.  I don't think they will play it, but I can see it happening and people going nuts.

Those are some stellar lists....I will lose it if they play It Makes No Difference....!

Jbpats

I think at this point we should know the general set list(s) they will play. A couple of older gems but mostly the MMJ tunes you'd expect to hear during a two night run.
Any sort of surprises would have to be in the form of covers or extended intros/outros. We know we're getting a few Prince tunes and one or two Bowie covers.
I would like to see them come out with something new. The fun thing about covers is hearing something they never played before, not hearing the same cover over and over again.
Gov't Mule is the master of this, that is why they are my favorite live band other then MMJ. On any given night they will play something they never played before and its always special, and its rare for them to duplicate a cover from night to night.

Having said that I would LOVE to see the boys cover some Pink Floyd. They were Roger Waters backing band last summer and haven't really done anything Floyd related since.
How bout a Dark Side of the Moon teaser ideally from Us and Them to the end of the album:

Us and Them > Any Colour you Like > Brain Damage > Eclipse

If they did that I would probably cream my pants.  :bath:

Red Rocks is the PERFECT venue for something of this magnitude.

Pink Floyd!!!!! The Jacket are the only band capable of covering Pink Floyd and doing it justice: Bo= Rick Wright, Carl = David, Jim doesn't really equal the vocals of either David Roger or Rick but who cares, Tom's bass could easily reproduce some of those crazy effected bass lines (delay and phase 90: see One of These Days and Sheep) and Patrick..well...Nick Mason's drum parts may be TOO EASY for Patrick...he's gonna have to throw some fills in there.

Pink Floyd covers would be unbelievable, but something from Dark Side..???
I'd rather have the boys do Echoes or Fearless....or maybe Welcome To The Machine??? I don't know..it's not easy to cover those guys, not really in the chords or whatever, it's more replicating the feel and mood (impossible) and the songs really have to have context within the band trying to do them...something darker and more moody may be best for MMJ to cover Pink Floyd through....this is interesting

I was lucky enough to see Jim & the boys back Roger Waters for his entire set last year at Newport Folk Fest. Wow. What a surreal event that was. Here are the setlists from that day.

MMJ Setlist:

Believe (Nobody Knows)
Compound Fracture
In Its Infancy (The Waterfall)
Golden
Wonderful (The Way I Feel)
(with Lucius)
Tropics (Erase Traces)
Spring (Among the Living)

Roger Waters w/MMJ Setlist:

Crystal Clear Brooks
(live debut)
Mother
(Pink Floyd song)
The Bravery of Being Out of Range
(first time live since 2002)
Hello in There
(John Prine cover) (live debut)
Wish You Were Here
(Pink Floyd song) (with Sara Watkins) (first time live since 2009)
Wide River to Cross
(Buddy Miller cover) (with Amy Helm)
Amused to Death
(first time live since 2002)
Brain Damage
(Pink Floyd song) (first time live since 2008)
Eclipse
(Pink Floyd song) (first time live since 2008)

I'll be surprised (and delighted) if we get a deep cuts in lieu of covers.  Oxen > Purple Rain all day long.

You need it.  That's for sure.

beardedwonder

If I could now hear any Floyd covers it would be:
1) Animals album in full
2) SOYCD all 3 parts
3) Anything off Obscured by Clouds or Meddle.

I agree SOYCD would be incredible but the second half of Dark Side is still my #1.. Just imagine the Harmonies on those tunes.
Echoes from Meddle would be amazing as well and extremely Epic.. i'd hate to underestimate the boys but I doubt they could pull it off.

Some other considerations:
1) Sorrow
2) High Hopes/What do you want from me from Division Bell

I'd personally pass on anything from the Wall unless they went kind of deep with it and did The Show Must go on > In the Flesh

Either way a Pink Floyd tribute of some sort would be incredible at Red Rocks. I think part of my Floyd desire is from seeing Gilmour at MSG last month, probably the best concert experience of my life.

I love Prince but Purple Rain has been done to death at this point.. in fact I think Madonna buried it for good at the BMA's and I don't see MMJ busting out anything from the Dirty Mind album... The Beautiful One's would be incredible just because I think JJ's voice is perfect for that tune, but either way I hope they drift from Prince at Red Rocks.

ABSOLUTELY AGREED! But Jim is obsessed with Prince, and I don't think he's gonna get over his death very soon, which is just fine.

I was thinking ANIMALS too!!! That's my favorite Pink Floyd album!! Pigs (Three Different Ones) with Carl on the talkbox?!?!?! unreal would that be.........(Yoda-speak)
