Even though the official date is next week, I thought I would bring it up this weekend, considering the festival is going on right now.
This Bonnaroo is my 11th anniversary of witnessing this band for the first time, and being introduced to what would be an obsession for the next 11 years to come. From sitting there and getting a good spot for Modest Mouse and deciding to listen to the band before them, to accidentally coming across my favorite band.
But even though Bonnaroo '05 introduced me to the band, Bonnaroo '06 brought it to another level. To this day and 20+ shows later, the '06 Bonnaroo is still my favorite show (and yes I was at '08 as well).
From the first second the lights went dark and the scratchy record played "When You Wish Upon A Star", we all knew we were in for a magical experience. And then Jim entered with a lantern, and Wordless Chorus sets up the long night that was ahead of us. From the setlist, to the covers, to it being a late night set, to the intimacy of it being at the tent stage instead of a main stage, to the beautiful Tennessee night, everything was perfect.
It is definitely one show I'm grateful and lucky to have witnessed.
So to everyone who was at that show... Happy Anniversary!!!
And to Jim, Tom, Patrick, Carl, and Bo, thank you for getting me absolutely hooked to your wonderful music that night!
