Me and some friends are looking to head down for Saturday and I'm looking for some more inside info into Lock'N from people who have gone before...

How packed does it get/feel on any given day? it will be packed on the weekends...40k plus likely
Are there crazy lines everywhere? Not terrible. Lots of food/bev tents. Bathrooms take a few minutes but weren't terrible
How does it work with there only being one stage?  there are two stages side-by-side, just one act plays at a time.

Basically any sort of info that anyone can offer would be appreciated.  I'm just trying to get a feel for what the atmosphere is like at Lock'n.  Thanks

They ditched the side-by-side stage approach this year -- they're going with one "turntable" stage. Anyone's guess as to how that will go. I'm thinking that could mean a lottttt of people camping out all day. Chairs at festivals are a nightmare to navigate, so I hope they have some sort of anti-chair zone.

I read that chairs are only allowed behind the soundboards... and I'm sure everyone strictly abides by that LOL

Good questions Murph and thanks for the answers.  Do they clear out the pit like Bonnaroo or let people park and stay there all day?

The chair thing does not bode well.  Any added tips or insight would be appreciated.

that turntable thing doesn't sound good for me.   how will there be any turnover on the rail?

ps I'm not going, just enjoying the thread

I'm going all weekend.  This will be my first experience seeing most of the other bands live.  Thursday and Friday should be good "test" days to figure out what time I need to start getting situated for Saturday night.  I'm thinking that since Phish, Ween, and dead-heads are likely dominating the fan-base that it won't be as difficult to get a good spot for Jacket on Saturday.  The one-stage concept is pretty cool in that everyone is on the same musical journey during the day, but I hadn't thought about how the pit area wouldn't clear out which could be annoying.

As stated earlier, anyone going can find me under an MMJ-oriented flag all weekend.

2 weeks!!!

Also - my opinion is that it will be a very, very, very jammy set in order to cater to the crowds that aren't as familiar with the boys, so it should be quiet a unique experience!

I wouldn't be too sure.  They played Run Thru among other loud tunes during the Americanarama tour when they opened for Wilco and Dylan.  They could even play less jammy stuff to counteract the rest of the bill and blow people's minds.

Whatever kinda set they play, it's nice that it won't be your "average" festival set. Being the Saturday headliners means they'll have at least a two hour slot, not to mention a very lax curfew. There will definitely be some room to toss in deep cuts and/or extendo jams in addition to the usual festival staples.

Anyone else thinkin with might get a new Carl song played at Lockn? Holding out hope that the Jacket boys drop some 4th of July.

one piece of advice: DO NOT MISS TEDESCHI TRUCKS BAND!!

looks like they play right before MMJ. What an incredible few hours of music you are in for! I think this lineup is outstanding. TTB was the best show I saw this summer. Hope everyone has the best time!! :)

Amen! I've seen them before but this tour is over the top. Derek and Susan like to collaborate... so fingers crossed something happens with MMJ.

If the CRB are there a day early I would think you could see a Chris Robinson/Neal Casal collaboration with TTB. Actually, just saw Hard Working Americans are on the same day, so you're sure to see some overlap between them and TTB.

Plus Anders Osborne is no joke on the guitar. Would love to see Anders and Derek play on a song together.

The show I saw this summer had so many sit-ins between Derek with NMAS, Susan with Los Lobos, Luther with TTB...just in awe. amazing combo of three bands on that Wheels of Soul tour this summer.

I completely agree.  I think it's a shoe-in for the setlist.  If they do paly it, I'm going to try to get the wifey to record it for all those that want to see it on the forum.

I am hoping TourGigs does a stream again.
Don't you ever turn it off

IDK, they started doing Carried Away right after All Birds Say was released, right? And the fact that Bo, Patrick, and Tom all helped create 4th of July, I think it's very possible.

Tickets secured, see y'all next weekend! Nine months since my last MMJ show, I'm well overdue! May the setlist gods smile funkily upon us...

Excellente! Did you go with a weekend pass from the secondary market? Or just Saturday?

It's going to be one hell of a weekend.

Figured there was no value in a one-day pass so I went with the whole weekend! Gotta split before Phish starts on Sunday but I feel like the majority of the weekend is better than one day! Can't wait!

Setlist hopes/expectations anyone?

I'm expecting a lot of "standards" since it's a festival show and their first since Red Rocks.  That being said, it's Lockn, so even if there aren't a bunch of surprises, I think there will be a lot of extending yammin'.

Given their extended layoff, I'd agree that a set of standards is probably to be expected. I still find it kinda weird they're doing this fest as a total one-off. Haven't played in three months and won't play for another two months after. The offer must have been real nice.

REEEEEEEALLY hoping they play "Throwback" though, still have yet to hear that one. And I'd kill for a nice super long Phone. Bring on the jams, boys!!
