I just saw that MMJ will be part of the 30th anniversary Bridge School benefit (neil Youngs) & also on the bill is roger waters.Ony of my biggest regrets was not being at newport festival when MMJ played backup band for roger waters.I haven't really looked into it but was wondering if there is any chance of this happening again at bridge school?ANybody know.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

the bridge school is typically bands playing short sets and different peeps often sitting in with different bands, sometimes a bunch of peeps. sunday usually has even more collabs and one big stage full jam session at the end.
i'd bet if MMJ is backing Waters, word will get out well in advance.

I don't have any inside info but all signs point to a Waters/MMJ collaboration IMO. The fact that they rehearsed and worked on the set for Newport is reason enough. I would be surprised if Waters plays solo or recruits someone else to back him up. Portions of the set they played in Newport would jive easily with the Acoustic leanings of the Bridge School benefit's history.

With Carl being unavailable during Waters' Desert Trip sets two weeks earlier, it's almost guaranteed Waters will have his own backing band for those shows, and would therefore likely have one at Bridge School. Wouldn't be surprised if there was a sit-in, but I think a repeat of MMJ backing Waters is pretty unlikely. [Having said that, maybe MMJ sans Carl is still backing Waters at Desert Trip, and GE Smith is the lead guitarist? A man can dream.]

I'm hoping for another Neil sit in. I still think that was one of the coolest things MMJ has ever experienced. I was glad to read Carl thought so too! Will be interesting to see what kinda setlist the guys can craft in the all acoustic confines of the Bridge weekend.

These are all good points but I would disagree for a few reasons.
Dessert Trip will be a large, heavily produced event with a minimum 2 hour set that will be loud and involve a bunch of musicians that will be very well paid. It seems unlikely that all those involved will hang out for 2 weeks and then go 6 hours north and play a short acoustic set for no pay when there is another band who will already be there and can easily play twice with one set of gear. I bet GE Smith makes the trip and a very similar gig to Newport unfolds.
Just my 2 cents. And again, I really have no idea what will happen.

I'm not saying Waters' band is going to hang around for two weeks. I'm just betting that if Waters assembles a band for Desert Trip, they're his band. And I assume if you get booked for a show, you bring your band.

Im starting to come around to your way of thinking after looking closer at Waters' schedule. He plays the 3 weekends in a row prior to Bridge School. 2 dates in Mexico City then 2 Sundays at Dessert Trip then Bridge School. Makes sense he would have same band for all four weekends. But we can hope

This one just snuck up on me and I haven't seen anyone else talking about it

I just searched and couldn't find anything about a live stream.  Does anyone have any intel on whether there will be one?  I don't have much going on this weekend and would definitely make it a priority to fit in the Sat and Sun shows.

oistheone

In past years, they've announced stream info only a day or two prior to the fest. I recall the last few years being a "paid" stream though. Which, considering where the funds are going, I have absolutely no issue with. Will definitely be tuning in should a stream materialize!

I wonder if any Waterfall tracks will get the acoustic treatment this weekend. Acoustic Purple Rain?

APR

I predict a Neil coming out for a song.  Maybe on Like a Hurricane, which Carl did so well on that Nashville download.

Stevie

I really hope they do Like a River.  Maybe my only complaint of their setlists since The Waterfall was released is that this song is criminally underplayed.  Seems like of all of the Waterfall tracks it would fit most with Bridge School.  Get the Point is obviously acoustic already but maybe too intimate a song for that setting.  Maybe Hillside Song or I Cant Wait.  Anything else from the Waterfall would really surprise me.  Its just hard to convert most of those songs.

So, it seems MMJ will reprise their role from Newport- having an early set, then returning to the stage with Lucius to support Roger Waters.  Excellent!

The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

Did anyone find a live stream?

I just looked and found a few youtube sites posing as live streams but they were shut down already

State of the Art (A.E.I.O.U)
Compound Fracture
Golden (w/Lucius)
Wonderful (w/Lucius)
Tropics (Erase Traces)
Helpless (w/Neil Young)

Stevie

Very cool.  I wouldnt have thought Tropics or Compound because of the screaching electric guitar solos that make the songs what they are but im sure they found a way to keep em lively.  Glad to see that they challenged themselves.

GO4IT

I have to hear that version of Helpless they did with Neil!

Apparently they are aggressively taking down videos but here are a few that are up now, including the one posted above, but who knows for how long - see below.

Wish you were here:
