They said they recorded it first when they made Z in the Catskills back in early 2005, it's got a winning chorus.

It kinda gives me Dawes vibes, which is not the worst comparison in the world. Growing on me with every listen. I've got a bad feeling that this album is going to be full of 3 minute songs that take 2 minutes to get to the musical MEAT. Someone please tell me that B'o'B hasn't whittled them down to too much of a musical nub?
it wouldn't be a party without you

This song is pretty bad.  Hoping for much better come Friday.

I'm not an MMJ fanboy.  I think that although I like a lot about their post-Z work, their albums from EU on just haven't really scratched the MMJ itch for me like AD, ISM, and Z (what a run!).  I'm all for bands changing, but what they changed into wasn't really my thing.  I think that Circuital and self-titled are my least favorite, with MMJ being a huge disappointment.  All of that said, there is a lot to like on this new album.  With what I've said above, I REALLY like Half a Lifetime.  You can tell it is a Z era track.  The rest of the album has a lot to like as well and I think it is on par with Waterfall.  At this point in the band's career, I'm not expecting them to release an At Dawn or ISM caliber album, but "is" is really good if you go in with an open mind.

I like what you said Nikkogino, nearly impossible to recreate the magic of the first 4 albums, but i absolutely already think this album is way better than Self-Titled by a mile and i've only heard 3 songs haha

The songs are way tighter than MMJ and even though there is Guitar soloing and breakdowns, they are all very concise (you can see where they will go with the live shows).  There are times where I wish the songs would just go off, but I kinda like how they kept everything restrained to make for a nice front to back listening experience.  The songs are just better on this album than on MMJ.

It's growing on me after a few listens.

However you feel about it, just be honest. I honestly couldn't understand why EXILE was considered better than STICKY FINGERS or LET IT BLEED, and then it took a time and a place and a vibe to make it happen.
Point being, if you really want an album to speak to you in an age where music itself has become so completely devalued, you've got to give your full attention and time to it...like anything. It's truer now more than ever before with smart phones cutting off the wavelength and ecstasy of music sometimes.
I'm gonna listen to IS in as many settings as possible before making a full determination. Right now, though, it feels great
