Okay, so I'm driving to work this a.m., bright and early, everything still dark and cold...with MMJ on the stereo, of course.

And I'm listening to Steam Engine for like the millionth time...there is something really special about the climax of that song, the unusual, melodic, joyful, artful statement it makes with the beautiful blending of all of MMJ's elements morphing into something tangibly different than anything else out there.

Dare I say this song is an instant classic?  Of course my opinion is largely biased, but what do you think?  I believe my brain melted into a puddle of oozey, briney soup after seeing it live the last time...

I'll tell you one thing, first time I heard that song was December last year, when they will still busy working on It still moves and Jim played it in his solo-encore. And when he played it, I was convinced it was a cover. It sounded like some old classic song that would get played on the radio every once in a while on stuff like those annual "Best song of the twentieth century"-shows, an old rock 'n roll song, like "Heart of gold" or "Stand by me", or whatever. The ending of the song, with the li-da-dum-part, just stayed in my head for months and months, and when it appeared on the FTP-server, I immediately downloaded it, and it all came back to me. So, now, you calling it an instant-classic, just sounds like someone stole my thoughts. Amen, brother!  :)

You are all correct! Holly shit can Jim write a tune...
I can't wait for more.... anyone heard about any new songs..?
I'm impatient.  Love hearing those new tunes that they're f..ing around with on tour.
Probably just performing the prior album stuff but am waiting with mouth watering for anything new.  ;D

I heard this song, and MMJ for that matter, for the first time a few months ago as I was driving to work on KEXP in Seattle.  I was so captivated by the song, I went and bought the album the next day.  "Steam Engine" is still my favorite track on the album, but the rest of it is so powerful... I'm glad I finally discovered these guys.  They deserve all the credit they're getting right now, it's really one of the top recordings of the year.
