I checked previous topics and didn't see anything similar.  So what's your favorite mmj quotes or lyrics and why?  Of course this depends on your interpretation of the lyrics, but that will make it fun.  So here's mine...

"but I know there's someone that loves up above
and want to fix you a dream.
He wants to sit down and think.
He wants to pour you a drink.
And you wont feel a thing...you wont feel a thing."

This is from strangulation obviously.  I think this is the saddest and most emotional song i've ever heard.  It's so hard to explain...we hear the sad stories from both m/f and at the end we have this "universal solution".  I feel like the end has a little bit to do with a higher being, such as god.  I just love the relationship that Mr. Jim James presented with the lyrics.  It blasts my mind thinking about god pouring me a drink and telling me everything will be just fine and there is nothing to worry about.  ( Normally we don't associate having a drink and god together. )

Sorry if this was nothing more than a rant...but I want to hear your favorites.

Quotebaby. there's just one thing
one thing that does it
does it for me
baby. we'll find a way
we'll go out
out for a day
and I want it so bad! it's the first thing I see when I wake
so bad! it's the first thing I see when I wake

I don't know why, but these words "ring true like burning coal" as it were...they really feel like a powerful testament to allure of addiction.  now, whether that addiction is to drugs, booze, love, Jesus, politics, Gorton's Fish Sticks, or what is a mystery.

and it's that mystery that is so confounding, yet appealing.  i try not to read deeply into the lyrics (too much) and have been amiss at even looking at the lyric sheets...it's all about the context and perception of those lyrics at the time i first hear it (live or otherwise).  i don't get into the whole "gotta know what he means" kind of thing as I think I know the feeling of what is trying to be conveyed to the listener.

that, in a nutshell, is my take on why the music is so powerful-the feeling.  it makes you feel powerful, meloncolic, depressed, sad, angry, happy, joyful-sometimes all at once-and as Jim so eloquently said all those years ago "we're trying to put feeling back into music".  i'd say he's done a fine job of it.

I go for the romantic stuff:

Why's it so great just to wake every day alive and by your side?

So simple but it says it all  :)

I believe my choice has been obvious for awhile  :)

Nothing wrong with simple and to the point.  A lot of the times a single sentence can say a lot more than a paragraph.

It was kind of tough picking between the above and "the fact that my hearts beating is all the proof you needed."  That quote is permanently imprinted in my brain for a special someone...  If I were ever to get a tatoo it would be those words.

Why's it so great just to wake every day alive and by your side?---I love the pause after alive.  It gets me every time.
Personally, though, of the many mindblowing lyrics, I have to go with:

Don't let your silly dreams fall in between the crack of the bed and the wall.

I always hated losing stuff down there when I was little, but the best part is, there is no hypocrisy whatsoever in that statement by Jim.  Smalltown Kentucky boy becoming an international rockstar by doing all he could to make his dream a reality.  So inspiring!
Everything it seems I like's a little bit stronger

Yes...i cant help but singing that part especially loud everytime i hear it. I can't sing very well, but who cares.

to anyone who wondered
what old jebus meant to me
take him out to go diving
in red patoka sea
the brain melts in the twilight
with the boar and moving trees
your skin looks good in moonlight
and god damn those shaky knees
the fact that my heart's beating
is all the proof you need

 :o  WOW!

There's Still Time.........

I'm a big fan of Strangulation, as well.

But I also like By My Car - I really dig the point of view that the song comes from, and the defiant ending, even if it's most likely a lie; "Los Angeles ain't that far and all the rest of the girls said they'd be there, by my car."

Chills

Has to go something like this

'Beat this thought into your head:
 Sayin over and over again
 All your life is obscene
 Forget the papers
 Forget you musical dreams

But that's when my knife rises
Their life ends and my life starts AGAIN'

Man, what a way to open an album of pure genius. For me,it kinda sums up everything MMJ stands for. Standing up against mediocricy, against cynical people holding you down. Doing things your own way even when you are doubting yourself and regardless how hard that road will be, and it will be hard.

'Sometimes i wonder why that meek guy has all the fame,
 Maybe i'm to blame
For this short bitter fucked up life'

I think Jim may have doubted himself and the possibility to reach people with his music, but he never compromized, because deep down he felt what he was doing was right and real in a world ruled by fake stars who have 'all the fame'.

But there are many others

'feeling you here again
 Hot on my skin again.
Feelin good a thing i'd never known before
What does it means to feel? Millions of dreams come real.
A feeling in my soul i'd never felt before...mmm...'

Nothing to add here: just beautiful...

Quoteoh soldier you look so strong.
who held you that you fought so long.
who told you that you left me amazed.
there's something left i gotta say.
how long can you stay?
i been waitin all day...
i been meltin away...
just to send off with you.
come closer. come closer.

My MMJ confession...
I was held and loved for a short while by the most tender lover I may ever know because of this song.
