And the contestants are...

the lead singer from Rush (what's his name?)
Lemmy
The guy from Supertramp
Bon Scott
Black Sabbath era Ozzy
The guy from Canned Heat that sings "Going Up The Country"
Scatman John
Shaggy
Barry Gibb from the Bee Gees

It must be about one of these talented singers!

That would be:

1)  Roger Hodgeson
and
2)  Bob "The Bear" Hite

in a way, i see it as the bands anthem. Them sort of saying that thats what they hope to achieve through their music, because that's the thing they most aboslutely love about music. Not the words that he says or the band...something beyond musical examination and just purely emotional, and that's how MMJ strikes me. Moreso than any other band.

Kind of like "Whiplash"for Metallica or Bad Company's "Bad Company", but waaaaay better.
The river is moving. The blackbird must be flying.

Does anybody get the outdoor concert feeling when they hear the intro of this song?  I have got that feeling ever since I heard it.

So is it definitely about Al Green? Isn't that how it was introduced in Nashville last year?

I missed Al Green last night. He was playing at the same time as the Black Crowes. Had to go with the Crowes.

What?!  No, I totally made that up.  It was the first thing that popped in my head.

I think he talked about Al Green at Nashville, but not that specifically...

I'm repeating an earlier post by me in another thread somewhere on this forum, but I believe this is an open statement by Jim left for you to fill in the blank based on what you're digging at the time.  Its like one day I'm jonseing to hear David Gilmour's whispery smooth voice and the next thing I'm spinning is Pavarotti.  Get my drift?...

Call me crazy, but I always thought that this song was about Jim.  I guess it could be a tribute to someone else or an open-ended thing but it fits so well with Jim's music, I always assumed he wrote it about himself.
