I think Paranoid Android (Radiohead) or Have a Cigar(Pink Floyd).
There's Still Time.........

"Have a Cigar" has been covered by Primus and the Foo Fighters already, so I'd rather see MMJ do something different... just my $.02.

Although I can't think of a good cover right now...  :)

What about Steve Earle: my old friend the blues, or down the road
and anything by jackson browne (these days, running on empty)
but hey they seem to love black sabbath and that's mighty fine by me! planet caravan of the paranoid record would be great

corey

My fiance' thinks that Jim sounds a lot like Jackson Browne. I think she mentions it every time I listen to them.

EC

How about "No Place to Fall" by Townes Van Zandt?

lyricjunkie

oooo... good one.  Can't you just hear Jim now?  And "No Place to Fall" even sounds like it could have been one of their titles anyway. :D
Talk less....
Say more.

i would LOVE for mmj, or jim james solo, to cover Jimi Hendrix's Angel...That would be so incredible.

lfish

Blue moon by Elvis.

The dramatic mood of this song would fit jim's voice very well.

Nice call on the TVZ, EC. I just started listening to him recently.

Here's a couple I wouldn't mind hearing:

John Hiatt's "Have a little faith in me"

John Prine's "Illegal smile"

Julee Cruise's "Falling"
Sittin' here with me and mine.  All wrapped up in a bottle of wine.

Bermuda Highway Patrol

Over the Hills and Far Away- Led Zep
Hey You/ Wish You Were Here- Anderson Council (get it?)
Karma Police- Radiohead
Yellow Ledbetter (if thats how u spell it ???)-Pearl Jam

I like how Ben Harper fits "Whole Lotta Love" in the middle of "Faded" too...

Bermuda Highway Patrol

I know my picks aren't as obscure :(, but if performed live, songs that EVERYONE knows are usually more fun ;)

havibulin

Cisco Kid by War. a little different, but they would do it proud.

kevinjanes

"In Tall Buildings" by John Hartford, maybe just Jim solo acoustic...

Drunkre

"From Boulder to Birmingham" by Emmylou Harris (asexual lyrics, so it'd be okay...maybe even "If I Could Only Win Your Love")
"Bottle Let Me Down" by Merle Haggard (I think its Merle Haggard...pretty sure its Merle Haggard)
it's a voice. and it's a choice
to call you out. or stay at home

QuoteCisco Kid by War. a little different, but they would do it proud.

P.S.  This is just farkin' awesome that someone named this.  One of the best songs ever recorded by anybody.  If you want to hear a tight rhythm section in action, I highly recommend Kazaa-ing (or WinMX-ing) this one.

Kind of cheazy, but I think they could do a mean "Prince Caspian" by Phish.  For hard core rock, AC/DC "Back in Black".

PrazAngel

Wouldn't it Be Nice or Sloop John B by the Beach Boys and/or
Waiting for the Sun by the Jayhawks

EC

(Drunkre, you're right, Bottle Let Me Down is a Merle song - covered by many.) :)

theres so much Zep out there that I think would be absolutely awesome and fitting for MMJ to cover.
"Ten Years Gone" would fit nicely, as would "The Rain Song". I would be absolutely floored to hear Jim sing "Going to California". I've recorded a version of this that doesnt even come close to touching what Zep has done, but I think that Jim has such a distinct and dreamy touch to his voice that it would complement this song much better than Plant ever could.
The river is moving. The blackbird must be flying.
