Chills

Don Dante in a slight win over Wordless Chorus

Jaimoe

Dondante is a great tune. So too is Lay Low. Into The Woods is an ambitious failure.

I'm curious as to what makes you call it a failure... (with no negative tones involved on my part, at all - just wondering)

I love Into the Woods but I swear the first couple of lines lines and Man on the Flying Trapeeze-like music kind of turned me off at first. EC, when I said "My Mexicans" I mean my amigos that work for me.Today they were into Anytime, made me play it three times in a row. ;D

I think " Into The Woods " is an ambitious failure because when compared to their canon of music up to this point ( meaning ' Z ' ), " Woods " gets muddled by being overly experimental and over-produced. The treatment of this song  killed it's potential musical potency, at least for me.

being an ambitious failure is better than a dismal failure, right?  like being ambitious, they were trying really hard, just not up to your standards?

ahhh ok, just curious.  i was just asking to clarify even though i disagree with what youre saying.  im not going to berate you for not liking everything MMJ has ever done which i always find humourous in a certain way.  wot makes it overproduced in yr eyes?  the samples, the choir, etc??

It's just that the song is really ' busy ' sounding with so many different musical styles and samples going on.

I love most MMJ tunes, but there's always one or two per album that don't always work for me.

That's very understandable. I think we all have those couple of tracks that we skip. However, it's hearing em live that brings em to life. I think I would actually like Easy Morning Rebel if I heard it live.

I'm completely new to My Morning Jacket until "Z".
But what a way to get introduced to them.....
This album is astonishing. The guys voice is beautiful and the songs are just incredible.Categorisation is impossible and that's never a bad thing.I only bought it last Friday but its not left the cd player since. What else have they put out?........

What a wonder man followed closely by Off the record even though its a departure from anything I expected from them but I'm a sucker for Phone went west so the reggae vibe is welcome.

Lay Low !!  What can you say about that guitar solo at the end?  I also read the previous post about "Into the Woods" being an ambitious failure.  I must say that song has really grown on me and become one of my favorites on the album.  Keep it playing and you'll see.

I can't have just one favorite off this wonderful album:

Cortez the Killer

No one else likes "Into the woods?"  I can't help but sing along on that track.

Lay Low is MMJ at their realist though.
