Allure with a bullet at 'SUM

Kristian Knutsen on Fri, 10/21/2005 - 1:13pm.
It's time again for the weekly charts from WORT and WSUM, Madison's non-commercial community and college radio stations, respectively. The most interesting change this week is the high charting (#3) of Detour Allure from Charlegmagne. The album was released two weeks ago, and is probably the highest-profile recent release from a Madison-based act, particularly in the indie genre that dominates the WSUM Top 30. Also, for whatever reason, WSUM released its charts two days later than is typical. A babel of offerings continues to rule the day at the varied WORT charts, which for some reason continue to change stations on their website frequently (with jazz, hip-hop, world, and rpm jockeying for precedence below their Top 30).

Last week's charts from both stations are available here, while the new listing are beneath the fold.

Musical charts continue at WORT

Kristian Knutsen on Wed, 10/26/2005 - 11:46am.
WORT and WSUM have already posted their charts for the week, which means it's time for our regular 'Top of the Charts, Bottom of the Dial' feature which republishes the most-played albums from two of Madison's non-commercial radio broadcasters. As noted here regularly, the WSUM Top 30 typically features nationally-distributed indie/college rock; in fact, their charts intro'd as being able to help you "gauge your relative indie cred by your ability to keep up with the tastes of WSUM's über-hip DJs." WORT, which is currently in the midst of its Fall 2005 Pledge Drive, features a plethora of genre charts besides its Top 30, rotating the positions of their jazz, world, hip-hop and electronic top tens every week. What's notable is that while there is relatively quick turnover amongst the albums in the former two genres, the listings in the hip-hop and electronic charts stay relatively static from week to week. These latter two include more local artists, as well.

Last week's charts from both stations are available here, while the new listings are beneath the fold.

Well it's obvious which station rawks :-)

The first round of November charts

Kristian Knutsen on Fri, 11/11/2005 - 2:32pm.
With the fall pledge drive at Madison's community radio station completed, the WORT charts are back up online. These include their Top 30, Top Five adds, plus top tens for jazz, world, electronic, hip-hop, and loud rock, though the adds for most of the genres are not included this week. Their charts continue to display the station's approach to musical diversity, and include the appearance of Charlemagne at the twenty-one spot. The WSUM Top 30 is showing some turnover, meanwhile, with no local acts represented this week. The listings on both charts are also a good indication of the wealth of touring acts that have passed through town this fall (My Morning Jacket, Dolly Parton, matt pond PA, and Constantines), or have yet to arrive (Bettye LaVette and hopefully a stop by the New Pornographers).

Last week's charts (from WSUM) are available here, while the new listings from both broadcasters are below the fold.
