Quick poll before I go nuts? Do I buy 2 copies since I already have 3 red ones?

One gold record is enough right? I don't even get a shipping discount...

I am only buying one copy.  And when I get it in the mail I will break the seal, pop open a beer or 6, and spin it.  Since I will never sell, the immediate hit to its value is of no consequence.

And the lack of shipping discount is (not cool).

megisnotreal

i would buy one to listen to and one to save and never open

Kory

I only have 3 red ones because I keep buying them when I go into earxtacy... I think I'll stop now. Oh yea, I ordered one copy, good enough!

Thanks again for the heads up Chico!

On a related note, I had an out of body/religious experience the other day with my z vinyl. Dondante came on and I just turned up the volume til the house felt as if it was moving, sat right down on my couch and stared at the wall. I guess that doesn't sound "religious" but I guess you had to be there.

Oh yea, if you've got At Dawn peeps, throw on "If it smashes down" and repeat the steps above. Dylan, if you're reading, you're welcome to come over and listen to my copy til yours finds you.

I'm still excited... is that ok?

This vinyl stuff just frustrates me...I own exactly 3 records.  I don't have a record player.  I already have the entire MMJ discography on CD's or mp3's.  Do I need this?  Absolutely not.  Do I want this?  Absolutely.  I often think, is it worth starting a vinyl collection at this point?  I'll ultimately transfer the vinyls to my computer for car listening, portability, etc, anyway...Then there's the choice of what to buy on vinyl and what to buy on CD...buy everything on vinyl or only albums with a certain "feel" to them (Neil Young's Harvest comes to mind)?  I know that nothing compares to vinyl listening at home, I'm just worried about poor audio quality when listening to albums I've ripped from vinyl in the car.  Someone please talk me into this.
We could.

Ah ha...Dylan must have posted this while I was at ACL...I knew about this one but was  :-X until he posted it on his site!  Yeah for GOLD(!!!!!!!!!!!) vinyl!  And yes, everyone who loves music should own a turntable and a vinyl collection.  Best sound, hands down  ;)

Just ordered!

Why not offer something that isn't already readily available?

I'm going to have a really hard time finding a good excuse to spend more money on something that is only being rehashed as a "rare collector's item" for the sake of cashing in on a loyal fan base.

What's wrong with the candy red vinyls? They're still in stock, and they're at a low $10 or so... If this were, say, Sweat Bees, SplitEP, At Dawn, or Tennessee Fire... then I'd order a handful of copies without a second thought.

Unfortunately, I'm left shaking my head... What a wasted opportunity.

I think we'll have to wait for Darla to re-release TTF and At Dawn but I agree with you Brad. I did order a copy of the gold (are we talking gold as in yellow gold or gold as in gold record sales gold) but it's pretty hard to find It still Moves and it's out of print on Badman's site. I'd love to get a golden copy of this album as I could always a backup...
or how about a 180 gram pressing of thick virgin vinyl?

Is it worth starting a vinyl collection at this point?  Yes

What to buy on Vinyl: MMJ, stuff thats not available on CD (Reggae comes to mind), stuff you find cheap at garage sales and half price books.

What to buy on CD: MMJ, New releases, everything else.

Poor quality from vinyl rips?  With good quality (well cared for) vinyl and a quality turntable/stylus, you can get a rip that nobody will notice unless they are paying attention to the quiet parts between tracks.

I don't get into the whole vinyl is better, cd is better debate.  I like them both.  CDs are convenient and sound great.  Vinyl is inconvenient and sounds great, but that inconvenience sets you up for a listening experience.  You only spin the vinyl when you really want to listen to the music.  CDs are just background noise half the time.  Vinyl is just a fun hobby...

Angry Ewok

Despite my bitching, I did in fact get one...

;D

It's a sickness.

By the way... it's a translucent yellow/gold record, and only about 400 were pressed. No word on how the cover art or stickers/labels will indicate it is a different edition than the first.

Kory

I wish it were metallic gold but I'm happy with anything concerning mmj and vinyl.

Thanks Badman!
