Hello guys,
I'm troubled by how much I lusted for these albums and that I never even played them due to feeling they were fragile. I'm not trying to make a ton of cash but I'm wondering what you all would think I could pull down for these first pressings now that they've been repressed.
Also thinking of getting rid of my Gold Hole and Bad Jazz 7" records...
The feeling I got from collecting them is now gone and now I look at how silly i feel that I hold these slabs of PVC so high...
thoughts?

I'm dissapointed in you.  You were my inspiration.   ;)
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

I'm just thinking guys, don't be dissapointed BH...

I am just starting to learn how I work... I do this thing all the time. I need to always keep one think in a collection unatainable to myself so I can keep the fire going. Now I just feel like I over did it.
I have 5 copies of TTF and 4 AD's now. That's just the vinyl, don't get me started with tracking down cd's and promos.

Oh, the delimas of a completist.  I found I have always struggled with this throughout my life.  Fortunately for me, I can't afford to overdo it.  I have one copy of everything they've released (if it's available) and that's it.  Maybe you should keep the first pressings and get rid of some of the duplicates.

However, if you happen to be the only person who has every release ever, you may be looked to for the Jacket wing of the Smithsonian one day.

Wise advice.  Or do what I have done.  Keep the originals, they are always valuable just in the fact that you have them.  And keep one repressing to spin.  Sell the rest.  And while BH, Vespachick, and me  ::) are all worthy of taking those precious 7" off your hands, unless you have duplicate copies, you just might kick yourself one day.  The money is spent....keep the 7" (unless they are copies, then sell them to  VC, and I can go over to her place to listen.....). 8-)

bearass

keep the originals unless you have a boner for colored vinyl

Chico

Kory, I know where you are coming from.  Keep your original pressings for sure.  I don't think they would fetch much right now anyways since the market is flooded with all the colors.  In a couple of years the originals will regain their value, and by then you will have a change of heart anyways.

Personally, I would hold an original and one other to spin.  But me, I still like to spin them.   ;D

Kory

thanks for all the advice, i know i can't get rid of them anyway...
i think i'll stop buying additional pressings though. you guys are great folks.

good to hear from you chico, I know you've had that bug bit you too.

You have them, keep them.  If I had kept all the Vinyl I owned back in the day instead of giving and throwing away all of it, Id have a seriously badass collection.  I've always regretting liquidating my vinyl.  Who knew it'd come back in style.  Although personally I don't buy the vinyl nowadays.

The vinyl variations went from "nifty" to being an obvious money grab, and it ran me out of the completists' department pretty fast. I was wondering if you'd be doing the same, Kory, since the two of us seemed to be more addicted to "collecting them all" than most and neither of us were very impressed with the sixth or seventh repressing of Acoustic Citsuoca.

I've not spent a lot of money since giving that nonsense up, so I'm happier and richer. I've put some of that money into framing some MMJ posters I had laying around (just got my uber-rare Nashville 2008 Hatch poster framed to match Hatch's Nashville 2006 one - so much better than getting a different color of a vinyl I already have several duplicates of).

sorry for the late response but I totally agree, I'm happier too... although I have been spending a lot of loot on my photography habit.

I just managed to grab a Gold Hole for $17.  It sort of rekindles the fire for me to have original pressings.  Damn. Bad Jazz where are you??
