Wait a minute...we haven't had Steam Engine or Dondante yet. Does this mean that, being halfway through the game, that they won't be meeting in the final?  :-/

The way I've set it up, that won't necessarily be the case. It all comes down to how we vote. There's a fairly good chance either way. If they do meet up, it won't be for a while.

So the first round was randomly matched, but based on our voting, each remaining song is seeded and the matchups are based on ranking in the second round? That's pretty good, otherwise you'd need a tournament just to establish the first round rankings  :D

Nah, not really. If you want me to explain this: The winner of the four matches fight (in pairs). Then, the winner of those two matches fights. Then, the winner of that fight fights the winner of the similar fight in the other match. Then, after that round, we're down to the final four. So basically, no seeding but just considering the order everything's in and the way it's all set up, Dondante vs. Steam Engine is possible. It all makes sense if you're the one who set it up.  :-?

It works for the NCAA tourney, because theyre preseeded

In this situation, you went in blind/random (which I have no prob with), but based on how voting has gone now, you should reorder/seed the songs into 4 new regions based on voting (ie, top 4 songs in separate regions, lowest 4 songs in separate regions and vs. #1)

If you dont do it this way, honestly, its kinda stupid bc you arent giving some songs their due respect (and some have already met that fate). Its even worse bc basically for each group of 4 winners, youre just making the first 2 you list, and the 2nd 2 you list, face each other with no reason other than how you listed them.

I understand it might take you an extra 30-45 minutes to do that, but its worth it

If you dont have the time, ill take those numbers and do it for you if you cant, because itd be a lot better 1st round out this way.

Ok, heres what Im saying.

In the first round, theres 64 songs. 32 of these are moving on into the second round

Once you/we get entirely thru the first round of voting, you order the winning songs based on how many votes they got, getting the most votes being at the top of the winning song from round 1

You then divide these 32 songs into groups of 4 based on winning votes

1-4       - #1 seeds
5-8       - #2 seeds
9-12     - #3 seeds
13-16   - #4 seeds
17-20   - #5 seeds
21-24   - #6 seeds
25-28   - #7 seeds
29-32   - #8 seeds

You now would have 4 regions, each with 8 songs, ranked according to how many votes they got

If you wanna post the final votes for Round 1 in this thread or PM me the # of votes each winner got, I could do this for you farely easily.

I can even do it a bit more technical (ie 8th most voted song (a #2) goes into the region with the #1 seed/song). Just like the NCAA tourney. Best team/song gets the 'easiest' road, the borderline seeds would eventually face the other borderline (worst #2 vs best #3 in the next round)

Not necessarily

Yes, it favors the #1, but nothings guaranteed. It does, however, make it so the toughest matchups should come further along instead of sooner (which makes more sense bc thats when those songs should be vs each other, right?)

BUT.....when you get into the Round of 16, you have much more even matchups (in the eyes of MMJs best fans) than a random blowout or bad/tough matchup that had nothing to support it.

Trust me, its the best way to go
