Here's my thoughts on the tourney, please add your own.

In the Elite 8, at least one song from every album was represented. I was surprised that The Bear was the last remaining TTF song. Don't get me wrong, I love The Bear, but War Begun, Picture of You, and Butch Cassidy are superior songs. Phone Went West in the final four was also a little surprising for me, especially considering that At Dawn is full of complete and utter gems: The Way that He Sings, Honest Man, x-Mas Curtain, I Needed it Most. I love PWW, but these songs were overlooked in my opinion. Run Thru also got robbed in the first round.

Bottom line, tourney was fun, and this band is incredible

As to The Bear and Phone Went West, they had relatively easy paths

The Bear Defeated:
If it Smashes Down 36-3
If All Else Fails 32-4
I Will Sing You Songs 26-12 (I think the loser was a better song)

Phone Went West Defeated:
Honest Man 33-9
Death is the Easy Way 24-17
I Think I am Going to Hell 26-12

Where as Run Thru had to At Dawn in the First Round and lost 24-11.
And then At Dawn went against Strangulation! and lost 22-16
And Xmas Curtain ran directly into Touch Me Part 2 and lost 25-14
And War Begun was cancelled out by Dondante 23-18

I agree with your analysis, and would throw Knot Comes Loose, Anytime, and Lay Low in the mix of bad beats (especially Lay Low that went against Golden in the 1st round.)

One grouping of minor songs IMHO was Hopefully vs One in the Same and Rollin' Back vs Easy Morning Rebel with the eventual winner Hopefully going to the Sweet 16. Any of the songs mentioned earlier would have beat any of these easily.

Looking at the Sweet 16, I think The Bear, I Think I am Going to Hell, and They Ran and I Will Be There When You Die, Hopefully could/should have been replaced by At Dawn, Xmas Curtain, War Begun, Lay Low, Golden and/or Gideon.

Great job on all your analysis vwxg14a! I have some objections to how some of the matchups went, but you really can't go wrong with the 8 songs that 40 (or so) of us chose as favorites:

The ONLY real objection I have is, HOW THE HELL did At Dawn not make it to the top 8?!?! I can live with I Think I'm Going To Hell not being a group favorite, but At Dawn should've been in the final 4, imo.

I think we did pretty well though! That's a wonderful, well-rounded list of songs up there! In fact, I even like the track order too...there's side 2 of your greatest hits album!

Thats makes me think WHOA because those %ages are pretty much exactly how Id rank the albums and how close they are.

Id widen the gap a bit between AD and Z, but thats crazy :D
