American Wasteland

It seems to me the only person involved in this is the person who wrote the original post.  Nice avalanche, dude.  At least the entire thread, along with his odd apology, is gone.

Thanks, American Wasteland.  It was my intention.

I'm pretty sure that going back one page is not too difficult a thing to figure out.  And as sarcastic as I feel like being right now, perhaps I'll let it go.

People are so testes these days.

testes?
EC... do you always have to mention balls? it's so....  :-[

 ;D ;D ;D
everything sucks. really.

I do.  I am 8 years old, and I find rude jokes very very very funny.  ;)

bah ha ha ha ha.  Holy.

Does everybody know the old Southpark song that goes : "Suck on my chocolate salty balls...  Put 'em in your mouth and suck 'em."

The chef sings it.

I sang it, almost like one would sing a love song, at the top of my lungs in a very public place to Mr. V the other day.

 ;D

I've got to say one last thing:
Quotewell if your'e allowed to come here and post whatever you feel like, why isn't jlp allowed to write whatever he feels like?

or is idiocy (ie free speech, apparently) only allowed for you lot?

Professional journalists should expect to be held to a higher standard than people who post anonymously on an internet forum.

American Wasteland

To EC - I was talking about the original rehab thread, not the thread that was started one page ago so you may save your sarcasm, but thanks.

To Tundra - Surely you jest when you say professional journalists should expect to be held to a higher standard than people who post anonymously on an internet forum.  Have you looked at the newstands lately?

TheLink

waste is the amount of time we have argued this whole stupid thing.  waste is an article defending against that should have just gone unnoticed if people hadn't made such a big deal about it.

hope some people saw my pick of the week on the letterman odds thread.  told ya Bengals would cover against those lowly Lions of Detroit.  DETROIT!  what a joke that entire city is!  oops, sorry Detroit.  you know where to send the hate mail.
Peace.

American Wasteland

I can think of another word for waste, The Link.

Happy Holidays.  OAO.

Whoops, sorry.  Looks like I was being the testy one.

However:

QuoteSurely you jest when you say professional journalists should expect to be held to a higher standard than people who post anonymously on an internet forum.  Have you looked at the newstands lately?
That has zero to do with this.

Let's look at the facts:
The Link wrote something that he ended up apologizing for and regretting.  He recognized that he made a mistake and he wrote that he was joking.

In turn, a journalist IN LOUISVILLE, where I'm sure many many family members and friends live, that fans were spreading rumours.  The journalist did NOT say where he found this information (ie on the messageboard), or that the rumours had died pretty quick.  That is fucking ridiculous.  Firstly, he made it sound like it was this really big thing, when it wasn't.  Secondly, he only wrote the "juicy" part of the story, and didn't finish it with the aftermath.

I think that's bullshit, and I completely agree with Tundra that a dude who writes for a fucking newspaper has a bit more responsibility than a dude who writes on a fan messageboard.

At least The Link is a registered member here.  I hate when people post when they're non-members.  You can't tell if they're somebody we all know who's afraid to say what they really mean, or if you're just some dude who came into the situation after the fact.

Ballz.

actually being IN the louisville "scene" to a degree, this rumor was also spreading around there.  then again there are constantly rumors about most every band and band member going throughout the louisville "scene" at any given time.  within the scope of the courier journal id say this does classify as "news" to some degree.

personally i heard he had a bad addiction to cashmere which was really rough on him since he has a skin allergy.  i hear hes all puffed up and looks like he got a bad sunburn.  this could just be another vicious rumor though.

Has anyone ever read the Courier Journal newspaper regularly? It's awful, awful journalism, but that's to be expected from anything that Gannett puts out. Not too long ago, 20-30 years or so, The Courier Journal was actually considered in journalistic circles to be a premier newspaper. It was always voted one of the best in the country by "people who know about these sorts of things." Then Gannett bought it out and it went way down hill and has never returned. So, knowing this, one should expect only shite to come from the music critic employed there. Sometimes he writes a decent review, but mostly, his writing should be ignored.

As for the Louisville "scene," it's pretty split in its support of MMJ. Half the bands and fans are elated for the band and thier success. The other half are sore losers and scoff any time a band, whether good or bad, makes it outside of the Louisville area and succeeds. This lot of fans and bands should also be ignored. They thrive on cutting successful bands down and love to perpetuate futher these sorts of rumors. It's all really sad, but that's what I've observed growing up here all my life...

thats pretty much every  music scene summed up right there.  there will always be haters.  there will always be people who want to dislike you.  there will always be people who have never even met you perpetuating rumors about you.  thats just how it goes.

yeah, i guess i didn't know about the rumours in town.

so this would be a perfect example of someone not knowing all the facts and getting all freaky.

sorry.

;) I think it's because the ghost of Marvin Gaye asked him to front a supergroup with Steve Cropper, Mike Watt, Sun Ra, and Mike Rutherford.   Melanie Campbell from Burning Brides will play bass  ;D and they will cover Peter Gabriel, Zapp, the entire Electric Boogaloo soundtrack, and Merle Haggard tunes.  While they're at it, they are going to redo The Wiz in an off Broadway production, make lots of burritos, and cure cancer.  Apples in Stereo will open on their worldwide tour, and Danger Mouse will warm up the crowd with his rapping with no amplification.  Pat Sajak will quit Wheel of Fortune to emcee the whole shebang, and the tour will be sponsored by Hostess Twinkies,  Interstate Car Batteries, and Preparation H.  The tour is for charity, and all proceeds will go to benefit the Roy Rodgers Saddle Chafing Institute and Frappacino's for Frankfurters.

Is that ridiculous enough?  Oh right, it's not as ridiculous as these rumors..... ;)

look at all these rumors
follow me every day
I just need some time
Some time to get away
from...

all these rumors
can't take it no more

hey man, i was made the center by whoever decided to take my dumb post to a level never intended.  for that, i take my part of the blame, but that certainly wasn't my intention.  i thought it was joking enough and when others pointed out it wasn't, i said it was wrong and that I NEVER even thought of it as a serious thought.  the fact that folks in Louisville did, seems a bit of a local phenomenon to me.  but again, i am sorry and wish the band nothing but the best.  Happy Holidays.

hi its cmccubbin25 a regular poster on this board but i am not at my cpu and not signed...anyway

free speech on a message board and freedom of the press are two totally different things.  journalists have a responsibility to at least try to report facts and convey what is actually going on with a story or an article.  this journalist failed to do so.  when people read newspapers they take what is in them for the most part to be the "truth" or at the very least somewhat accurate.  that is not true for a fan message board where people are FREE to say what they like...true or not.  journalists do not have that same freedom NOR SHOULD THEY!  they should tell the truth and tell us the public how things really are...not how they want them to be.  So MR. FREEDOM...that is what we call the difference between being objective and being subjective.  it sounds like from your post you may be from across the pond and trying to attack us "Americans"....get over it...1776!

if this rumour was making its way around the ville, as well, i'm sure he was just trying to help the band out.

If this is true, I apologize.  I had not heard any such rumor, and I am a Louisvillian, though, admittedly, an out-of-touch Louisvillian.  I only knew of the message board joke, and I think printing a message board joke (which had already been retracted) and calling it a rumor spreading among fans is irresponsible.
