My Morning Jacket's Jim James' bout with pneumonia has forced MMJ to cancel a couple of big American shows and a European tour, actions that led to fans -- fans, for cryin' out loud -- spreading rumors of drug addiction and rehab.

"That is totally not the case," said MMJ drummer Patrick Hallahan. "Jim's the one who's always eating salads and going back to his room early. That's why it's so ironic he got sick, because he's the healthiest of all of us."

For all you kids out there, pneumonia was once a major killer. Of people. It's bad news. It isn't unusual for a serious case to require weeks of bed rest, and James had complications that required a brief hospitalization.

"The vultures need to move on to another subject," Hallahan said.

Thanks for posting that my brotha.

Why do the vultures pick at this?  I'm ashamed.
Runnin' from somethin' that isn't there

ohmygod... i bet the asshole who first posted this rumour is sorry for it now. and the worst part about it is bothering jim with that tripe while he's trying to get better. that's so lame. some people just don't realize how rumours snowball out of control and start to become "the truth" as people see it.
jim, if you're reading this, i apologize for the dumb muthas who perpetuated this bull. get better soon. or take as much time as you need. xoxoxox
everything sucks. really.

Chills

Hey, according to me this thing wasn't a big rumour ever. It was half-jokingly (a lame joke for sure) stated by some individuals here and as quickly dismissed.
This guy is making it bigger than it was by writing these things in a newspaper and bothering the band with it.

And then he fakes to be outraged himself  :P

I agree with Chills. This was a very short lived and swiflty dealt with phenomenon on this board. The person who posted the 'joke' has apologised profusely and several times. The journalist is digging up old stuff and I say lets not perpetuate it.

i am truely sorry because i really love this band and its' music.  this has gone on way too long and the fact that a "journalist" has even asked the band about this is quite absurd.  i do realize others don't find the same humor in that stuff, but if this is all locals can talk about, then i am quite sorry for them or anyone who wants to make a big deal out of something so stupid.  the band may already despise me and for that only i am sorry.  my remarks were explained and scrutinized by anyone who wanted to do so.  it was quite clear it was not true and just a "joke" in the sense it was in a joking manner due to what people should already assume about Jim (i had hoped).  to all those who want to really cause harm to the band by reporting this, all i can do is question those kinds of intentions.  i know what mine were and understand that i was actually wrong in my assumption.  so, sorry again to MMJ nad all that love the Jacket.  this is really all i can say about this and hope nobody has anything else to say about it as it is not worth discussing any longer.  peace.

What bothers me about the situation is that if the person that decided to report that rumor got it from this board, he could have  just as easily read here that it was a joke. After I (and a couple of other people) cursed at you on the first day that you wrote it, you quickly apologized and told us that it was a joke.

That "reporter" really needs to check some facts before printing BS like that.

My thought, exactly.  "Hey, I don't have anything to write about in my column this week.  How about I blow something out of proportion?"

wellfleet

just goes to show ya, nothing you put out there stays private. of course it was shoddy reporting, lazy reporting, sensationalist reporting... but that's reality in today's media. i guarantee you that some uber-conservative group out there will take great exception to "kitten on fire/baby in a blender/all sound as sweet/as a night of surrender". crazy times are a-brewin'... i'm scared. freedom of speech and thought just isn't what it used to be.

freedom

well if your'e allowed to come here and post whatever you feel like, why isn't jlp allowed to write whatever he feels like?

or is idiocy (ie free speech, apparently) only allowed for you lot?

EC

Guys.  :)  Maybe we should just let this die, hey?  I'm sure that everybody involved in this whole stupid thing feels pretty fucking bad, and we needn't harp on it.

I say we move back to talking about Jim's WONDERFUL hair...

;)

ali

freedom of speech is all well and good, but i think the point that people have been trying to get across (in this topic & others) is that while everyone should ALWAYS be free to express what they feel, think and believe, you do also always have to consider the rammifications of what you say and what you do. just because you CAN say something, doesn't always mean you SHOULD  :)

ali

and more importantly, i second the vote to go back to talking about how great jim's hair is!!! i don't think i've ever seen him with a bad-hair or beard day yet!! if only i had curly hair like that....  ;)

ali

not the beard, just the hair.... don't want to be no bearded lady!!!

EC

Quotenot the beard, just the hair.... don't want to be no bearded lady!!!

True, but you can make a lot of money that way...

Yeah, I've never seen him have a bad hair day, either.  I think it's unpossible.  Like, okay, even at Bonnaroo, and even though I was standing about 100 feet back, and even though there were puppets all over the place, still, even then, the ONLY think the people around me were talking about was how amazing Jim's hair was.  There was a dude behind me who passed out cold on the ground.  My brother had some gatorade, and when the dude came to, all he could say was "It's just that glorious hair.  It's so beautiful."

ali

stunned by the beauty of the hair!!  happy as i am for jim, its kind of unfair for a bloke to have a great hair life.... my life is filled with bad hair days. as well as it being monday (which usually sucks enough all by itself) i'm having a bad fringe day  :D

Blokes AND fringes all in one post.  :)

(for those of you who don't know, fringes are what we call "bangs".)

Yeah, you're right.  It's totally unfair that Jim always has such thrilling hair.  Maybe we should hate him.  ;)

You know what's good for bad hair days?  Hats.  Serious.  That's why I loooooove the winter.

[me in the morning] "Oh fuuuuuuuck.  I guess it's a hat day."

I guess it's not winter in Australia though.  :(

ali

yeah its a bit hard to wear a beanie when its 30 degrees outside!!  :) some days do warrant extreme measures though!

blokes and fringes... boys and bangs.... sounds like the start of a very baaaad song  ;D
