MTV can trash the band all they want as far as I am concerned.  And the people who follow Perez Hilton, do they even know or care who MMJ are??  Aren't they more concerned with the likes of Britney Spears and that whole ilk.

oh MTV and it's groundbreaking musical perspectives.  who ever wrote that article sounds like a fuckin custie.

Does anyone else besides me not know who/what Perez Hilton is?
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Tracy- That may be the funiest fucking thing I've ever read. That has a beginning, middle, and an end and cuts to the core.

QuoteF@#k MTV.

To say MMJ's last album sucked is pure ignorance. MMJ is on the up and we all know it.

I'm a huge Dead Head, first show was in 1977, but I have not gone to one related Dead show since the fat man died and I don't care to. This Dead 2009 tour will not include their core fans and the ticket prices are a total ripoff.

Year of the Dead? Well , we will see about that!

I'd rather spend my money watching JJ and the boys go off.

Hear Hear!  Unless they are bringing Jerry back from the dead (no pun intended), then 2009 will NEVER be the year of the Dead.
I feel blessed that I got to see lots of shows in my time and I sure do miss the fat man and all the lovely GD tunes.  But the last Phil and Friends show I went to back in January 2008 made me want to pull out my hair (butchering Cosmic Charlie is an unforgivable offense...come on Phil  :-[).

Britney Spears is lined up as Jim's next duet.

Someone should warn him that if he holds hands with her he might get a disease....or seven.

QuotePeople! This is a good, if not great thing! Let me explain:

While I wish nothing but the best for the band, we don't WANT MTV fans. No sir, the last thing we need is having tweens show up simply because Jim is cute and then having their moms escort them to the show and calling security on every and any person who blocks the view of their little snowflake, every person who uses bad language, every person who has a few too many beers and and sings along too loudly (I've seen all these happen). No, that is not what we want.

We do not want people coming and asking to hear "I'm Amazed" played for the opener, closer, and encore! We do not want people who think that Cobra is "too weird" and Steam Engine is "too long" and that they should stick to the radio hits! NO!

We do not want MMJ to only play Arenas and eliminate any possibility of playing smaller venues. We do not want that! We do not want MMJ to be the subject of tabloids and Perez Hilton.

MTV, you can keep your hatred. Go back to giving wholesome fellatio to the Jonas Brothers. And in the words of Barry, "Go to the mall!"

Great points !!!

I don't want to see them in playing at Giants Stadium the next tour,
MSG is big enough!

I could not agree with you any more, you have taken the words out of my mouth.

Unfortunately some of my bands have sufferred from being popular. Like Red Hot Chili Peppers for example. I have loved since i was 2 years old. The last time i saw them they played a very good back catalogue song (Throw Away Your Television, for the record), and this tween was clueless. A direct quote: "This song isn't one of the popular ones, it sucks!!!" If she wasn't 15, and less attractive, i would have punched in the face. I know this is off topic guys, but we all suffer from it. It has happened to Kings Of Leon in a bad way. and now to prove my point. That is why i love MMJ, because they have released 6 albums, and the evolve on every single one without letting the art, or, their principles change.

Forever live MMJ!!!
Signatures are over rated

Wow throw away your television is back catalogue now? I feel old. That album carried me through a really awesome summer.

And Kings Of Leon are different. They had the unfortunate luck of making one of the greatest albums of modern times (Aha Shake Heartbreak) and sort of blew their load way too prematurely.

The difference is that MMJ seems to be founded on a different sort of philosophy and for them to ever sell out would be the equivalent of when a rock god like Eric Clapton goes to making straight to light FM music. It'd take a lot.

QuoteI don't really care what MTV says since they haven't been relevant in years, but these days may be upon us already...

Really? Say it ain't so! I'm all about tweens grooving to good music, but I'll never forget when I saw Incubus and Deftones in the 90s and a mom kept bringing security over every time someone lit a cig, did a little dance, or really just bumped into her. Plus all the gauged ears and tattoos really offended her suburban sensitivities. They basically stayed until Incubus played "drive" and left.

Oh, I think there's a certain OMGILOVEYOUJIIIIIIIIIM contingent at the shows these days that I hadn't noticed before.  No more annoying than the drunken frat boy contingent, though.

Sometimes it is the drunken frat boys in the ILOVEYOUJIM contingent.  (see below)

Hey, I'm all for the band bringing in new fans.  Hell, each of us was a new fan at one time.  But what I am disgusted at is the total lack of respect some of these "wannabees" are showing to the real fans and especially the band.  YES, you can jump around and sing your lungs out to "I'm Amazed" if you want to.  YES, you can get a good buzz on and rock out with your buddies.  YES, you can have a good time.  But, NO, you can't pelt the band with glowsticks and then hi-five your buddy when you wing Jim or Patrick in the head.  NO, I don't wanna hear you go on all night about how the local sports team either is great or sucks this season.  I don't wanna hear about the great sex you had last night or lack thereof.  NO, I don't wanna have to move 3 or 4 times until I actually find a group of people actually listening to the band.  You wanna get drunk and act like an asshole, go to a bar!!

Though I have never really understood the casual fan.  I get into a band, I devour them.  Never been one to just buy a greatest hits cd and then be content.

That being said, let us all hope that the Garden is the biggest venue they play.  Please do not turn into another Dave Matthews!!! (apologies to any DMB fans on the board!!)

"We're the heirs to the glimmering world"

Actually my biggest fear with fairweather fans is that they're the ones who don't care how much they pay, so the ticket prices rise when the band isn't in control, then you have the best seats go to the worst fans, then there is a sharp class divide, and the proletariat must rise up and decapitate the burdensome bourgeois and their oppressive ways.

Another problem with the article: RatDog is probably the most interesting Dead-related band at the moment.

no worries about tweens invasion. i've got three and tho they admit jj can sure sing they find him as cute as root vegetables. he is over thirty after all and never been seen in tight trousers.

MTV's wishlist for the coming year. MMJ never stood a chance, not when they had to go up against Linkin Park and Blink 182

god MTV is a piece of shit.  what do they play now? an hour of music a day? the rest is reality hip hop shows.  fuck MTV in it's ass.  fuck all of MTV's Producers, Executives, Lawyers, Marketing People, fuck all of them and their pathetic desires.  they should change their Music Television name to "lap dogs of the ignorant" or something.  fuck them, seriously.  I'm all about spreading peace but I'm sick of this "whoever makes us the most money right this second" approach.  give us something that ages like a fine wine, that gets better over the years.  something that surprises us.

their standard for good music seems to be the following:

a.) the music must connect to people between the ages of 8-17years-old.
b.) it must be a band who is willing to do anything to remain in the spotlight, even if that means remaking the same song over and over (ie Nickelback).
c.) if you're a female singer you have to be sexy, your videos have to be sexy, you have to show a little titty. (not a bad thing)
d.) fuck blink 182, fuck linkin park, fuck brittany spears, fuck all these little kids that are done up over the top in make-up just to make some CEO's a shit load of bread.
e.) fuck TRL
f.) fuck MTV, it's closer to being all about glamorous celebrities these days than quality music television.

MTV is a joke, it's a shame people think that's all the music there is out there when the bar could be set so much higher.  fuck MTV.  fuck it hard until it bleeds.
