I found this bulls**t on MTV.com...."10 REASONS WHY 2009 IS THE YEAR OF THE DEAD"

http://newsroom.mtv.com/2009/01/07/10-reasons-why-2009-is-the-year-of-the-dead/#comments

1. Due to the recession, LSD prices have fallen to pre-1965 levels!

2. More Dead dates means Bob Weir has less time to dedicate to RatDog, which is certainly a good thing.

3. It's your chance to finally hear Uncle John's Band, only made up of guys who are more than likely great-grandfathers at this point.

4. If they play "Blues for Allah," there is a 50 percent chance the Department of Homeland Security will storm the stage.

5. Hemp clothing is finally socially acceptable. Actually, wait, no it's not.

6. The prospect of the Dead and Phish co-headlining Bonnaroo might cause the world to explode due to "vibe-age."

7. You can actually hear "Shakedown Street" while standing on Shakedown Street. Or maybe that's just the drugs talking.

8. Wake of the Flood now eerily prescient.

9. Given the plunge in gas prices, truckin' up to Buffalo now surprisingly affordable.

10. My Morning Jacket's last album kinda sucked.

Not sure why MMJ always has to be brought up in conversations concerning the Dead, Phish and other jam bands, but there you have it.  This is why MTV hasn't been relevant in the last two decades or so.  Jesus they piss me off.

GFY MTV. Stick to Rob and Big reruns.

I do like the following bands:

MMJ
Phish
GD

However, I personally do not see how people even suggest that they are similar.  MMJ is not a 'jam band'!  Hold on, they talk about music on MTV?

Angry Ewok

Wait, did MMJ put out another album after Evil Urges?

Maybe James Montgomery should just stick to critiquing Sarah Palin's grandchilrens' names?
--- and that's 2 real 4 u.

Ghosts_on_TV

ha, I read this while listening to evil urges. I guess I kinda suck too.

Yes!
The river is moving. The blackbird must be flying.

Evil Urges didn't suck
Evil Urges doesn't suck
Evil Urges will only get better with time

MTV was kinda cool
MTV never got much better
MTV is the dimepiece whore of popular culture

They're opinion counts in the way Bush's opinion of Camus's the Stranger counts.

It doesn't

kydiddle

I love how MTV still thinks they are relevant enough to comment on music.

>:(
Cow temperature.

How did MTV get so badass? Seriously?
One good thing about music: when it hits you feel no pain.

thatswhatshesaid

i totally agree that MTV sucks. but on the bright side of things, at least they are actually talking about music. you know, since they are MUSIC TELEVISION. i find it strange that they would even bother talking about the dead when there are so many other things for them to discuss such as "the real world" and bret michaels (or is that VH1? its all the same crap). anyway, the bottom line is fuck you MTV for what you have done. it's nice for you to confirm that the music business in general is based on selling out instead of holding to what's true. you are the prime example of what's wrong with the world today. so thank you for nothing. as far as the MMJ thing is concerned, see the previous couple sentences.

People! This is a good, if not great thing! Let me explain:

While I wish nothing but the best for the band, we don't WANT MTV fans. No sir, the last thing we need is having tweens show up simply because Jim is cute and then having their moms escort them to the show and calling security on every and any person who blocks the view of their little snowflake, every person who uses bad language, every person who has a few too many beers and and sings along too loudly (I've seen all these happen). No, that is not what we want.

We do not want people coming and asking to hear "I'm Amazed" played for the opener, closer, and encore! We do not want people who think that Cobra is "too weird" and Steam Engine is "too long" and that they should stick to the radio hits! NO!

We do not want MMJ to only play Arenas and eliminate any possibility of playing smaller venues. We do not want that! We do not want MMJ to be the subject of tabloids and Perez Hilton.

MTV, you can keep your hatred. Go back to giving wholesome fellatio to the Jonas Brothers. And in the words of Barry, "Go to the mall!"

F@#k MTV.

To say MMJ's last album sucked is pure ignorance. MMJ is on the up and we all know it.

I'm a huge Dead Head, first show was in 1977, but I have not gone to one related Dead show since the fat man died and I don't care to. This Dead 2009 tour will not include their core fans and the ticket prices are a total ripoff.

Year of the Dead? Well , we will see about that!

I'd rather spend my money watching JJ and the boys go off.

I don't really care what MTV says since they haven't been relevant in years, but these days may be upon us already...

Really? Say it ain't so! I'm all about tweens grooving to good music, but I'll never forget when I saw Incubus and Deftones in the 90s and a mom kept bringing security over every time someone lit a cig, did a little dance, or really just bumped into her. Plus all the gauged ears and tattoos really offended her suburban sensitivities. They basically stayed until Incubus played "drive" and left.

my guess is Viacom, (who owns Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks, Republic Pictures, MTV Films, Nickelodeon Movies, Go Fish Pictures, Comedy Central, Logo, BET, Spike, TV Land, Nick at Nite, Nickelodeon, Noggin, The N, Nick Jr., TEENick, MTV, VH1, MTV2, CMT, Palladia),  has their hand in this Dead tour, thus the ad on MTV.

MTV has been truly irrelevant (outside making a ton of money for whatever Viacom is selling) for years.

Perez Hilton already talks about MMJ.

I knew the day would come when Perez talks about them. Right after EU came out and I started reading all the press I told my friend "this is going to blow them up in the mainstream media".

Also, I wonder if and what kind of ties Viacom has to either ClearChannel or LiveNation, or if it's just residual aftereffects from Festivals suddenly being vogue (but not the jam bands that come with them), and they just need to cling to the Dead to be like that one friend you have who has a Steve Miller song on his iPod in order to say he's a big fan of Classic Rock

Oh, I think there's a certain OMGILOVEYOUJIIIIIIIIIM contingent at the shows these days that I hadn't noticed before.  No more annoying than the drunken frat boy contingent, though.

Abracadabra doesn't count.
