what is a picture disc, exactly?

Picture discs are typically 12" vinyl records housed in a clear record jacket.  Instead of black vinyl (where the grooves are) there is a picture on each side and the grooves are clear and overlaid on top of the picture, hence "picture disc".

Usually, on most picture disks, the album front and back cover are the pictures that are used.

MMJ only has only released one picture disk to my knowledge, their release for the "story" at the Fillmore NYE shows, was a picture disk.

While I would normally be a sucker for such things and would blow stupid loads of cash for them, I am able to resist knowing that the sound quality suffers on picture discs. Yeah, I know, that's not the point, but the sound is why I like records.

i have a sgt. pepper's picture disc from many, many years ago.  i still think it's cool.

but you are correct, they are for having, not listening.

i am a huge vinyl fan and prefer to do all my listening this way when possible.  i have all of the mmj stuff on vinyl.

i intend to buy the picture discs but do not expect to actually ever play them as i completely agree that the quality of a picture disc record is almost always inferior to a regular pressed record.

will still look cool hangin on the wall tho

Hi everyone. I'm new to the board but not to mmj or vinyl. It's nice to not see these on ebay instantly.  I collect third man records stuff too and each limited release is up on ebay as soon as its leaving the store in Nashville.  Anyways even though I'm a newb I was hoping somebody could help me out with getting a pd?
