Awesome showing.  Fantastic performance.  It makes me so happy to see them performing on a national stage.  I hope there were many people watching, and rocking.

And now down to business.  What did I win?  ;D

Victory?
Hmmmm . . . I'm throwin' a penalty flag on Riny, since I was all over "One Big Holiday" (check the thread) as the obvious choice and then he comes on and tells me that wasn't correct. A bit of treachery on his part, with that "slippery tracks" comment. I'm wondering if he even knew in advance. How 'bout it Riny?

Here's a story about adversity:

Isabel knocks out my power at about 2:30pm yesterday.  I lament the fact that I won't be able to view or record the MMJ performance on Conan.

I can't really read or watch TV, I go to bed around 9:30pm.

I awake at about 11:30pm and notice one of the living room lights is on.

I bolt outta bed and run downstairs to set the VCR.

Satisfied, I go back to bed.

This morning I awake to find that the EXTENDED local news coverage of Isabel caused Leno and Conan to be broadcast later than usual.

As such, my tape cut off before MMJ hit stage.

I cursed and shook my fist in the air, shouting, "ISABELLLLLLLLL"!

Doh!

Don't worry, try Comedy Central tonight...and if not, I've got it on tape...hmmmmmmm, could I put that on the FTP server.....hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

It seems that ol' CC Baxter may be the slippery one!

Just funning with you. You've built an awesome website here. Some good stuff to feed the starving masses who want to get into MMJ after the Conan show.

It was nice to see Conan get blown away!

...not sure where my ears are, but I never heard of My Morning Jacket until I was aurally smacked awake last night. Imagine the tube offering up anything anymore.  Well, it's obvious these guys have some quality fans and I now get the enjoyable task of throwing money at MMJ at their Chicago show. See ya around, -A member of the starving masses

"aurally smacked awake" --  I like that phrase, as I think that is an excellent way of describing what happens to most folks who see and hear them live for the first time.

People have now become so unaccustomed to seeing anyone approach music and fans with respect and enthusiasm that hearing MMJ absolutely awakens you to just how bankrupt the pose of cool detachment and cynicism really is.

My Morning Jacket is a definite wake up call. Everyone on this board who has seen them live will tell you that absolutely no band working today will leave you with a better feeling after a show. After you see the Chicago show, come back to the board and tell us about your first time wearing the Jacket!

I had someone do a capture for me, its great quality, jack i just sent you an email about if you want it on your ftp. I dont have anywhere else to host it.  Once this gets up, I believe they guy use the xvid codec to make the video so you all may need to search google and install that to be able to see it

Hello all.  I'm 34, and have lost my enthusiasm for music.  I probably haven't bought a CD in 5 years.  Nothing out there today grabs me.  I have a ton of money invested in a fabulous sound system that, for the most part, sits silent.  I'm sick of my old CDs, and nothing new has interested me for a long time.  Until........

I was semi-watching Conan on Comedy central yesterday.  Usually when a band comes out and plays, I listen for a minutes and change the channel.

I was reading something when MMJ came out and started BELTING out a tune.....I looked up and thought "Holy Crap!  Who are these guys?"  Long hair, (NOBODY has long hair anymore!) classic guitars and bare feet!  Wild!

The song played, I believe others have identified as "One Big Holiday" was the first song in years to actually REACH me--I hadn't had this feeling about music in general for years....It was powerful, yet melodic.  The lead singer was pouring his soul into this song, and I felt it......I was totally pulled in.

I turned the volume up as high as my tv would go....wishing I was recording it so that I could play it again and to show my wife.....The song built up to a powerful peak with each guitarist taking a turn at a solo.....It was a beautiful thing.....

I grabbed a piece of paper and hoped Conan would mention the name of the band when they finished.  Conan seemed as blown away as I was, and I wrote the name down.

I just want the faithful here to know that I am going to go out and buy my first CD in years......and I will spread the word about MMJ.

Good stuff!!!!!

WOW... gd9704, you wrote exactly what happened to me. I am 38, and your post says everything that I came here to say.

I have been "Hit" with music three times in my life, where I said "WOW! now THAT'S the shit..."

The 1st time was in 1982 when I saw the Rolling Stones live on the Tatoo You tour. They were on top of the game then, and tore the roof off.

The 2nd time was in 2000 when I saw Springsteen live in his reunion tour with the E-Street band. Unbeleivable! Nobody outperforms the Boss on a live show.

The 3rd time was just the other night on Conan!!
These guys brought back the sound of TRUE rock music. The way music SHOULD be today.

I basically ignored the first minute or so of the song, as I didn't know who these guys were, while I tapped away on my computer, then the sound hit me.
..like a brick in the face.

I swear to you, I sat there mezmerized at the way that these guys played. I was spellbound and when it was over, I too was praying that Conan would say the name of the incredible band, and yes, Conan WAS blown away as much as I was. He never gets excited the way he did when they were done.

I have told everyone who will listen about this incredible new sound that I heard, and they look at me kinda funny because I am not one to do that sort of thing.

I'm just an ole' has-been kick ass hair band string plucker, but you guys gave me a feeling like I aint felt for a long time.

Thank you for that, and no matter what, stay true to the music. You are destined to be HUGE!

Same story here! - I was about to turn in for the night, and just as MMJ fired up, I was floored ! I jumped up and ran to the TV not to awaken my wife. Sure am glad Conan mentioned their name! I tried to describe them to my wife in the morning: Skynard, Neil Young, Meat Puppets, Jackson Brownish vocals!? Hair, Gibson, Fender, keyboards, long hair! I couldn't nail it! I too have lost faith in music as my last fav band - The Black Crowes, split, and nothing else out there so far has moved me - until the Conan O'Brian show. I went out today and bought the new album. It is so different than anything today. I was surprised to hear the use of reverb in a time where everything else in the music industry is boringly dry. I want to say thanks to MMJ for NOT being a clone of every other skater/NuMetal/rap/pop-punk-crap band out there!
Cheers MMJ ! Hope you guys go far!   ;)

Welcome to My Morning Jacketland - where being blown away is a daily experience.  Ever since I heard the first few notes of At Dawn I have been hooked.

I recorded the rebroadcast on Comedy Central this past Friday evening.

DAMN GOOD SHIT.

I must've watched that tape of MMJ's performance about 8 or 10 times over the weekend.

It seems surreal to see 'em on TV like that after all this time.

Each time I watched it, I couldn't wipe that big grin off my face.

Kudos!
