Is anyone familiar with DC++?  It is a p2p program that kind of combines a ftp site with kazza or soulsearch.  What happens is we a start "hub" based on MMJ trades.  Everybody who wants to puts stuff they are willing to share into their share folder and everyone has access to everything anyone wants to share.  It also has live chat.  I just joined a beck hub and I think its great, I've been downloading stuff constantly.  I'm not sure what it takes to start a hub but I think it would be great to get one going for us mmj fans.  thoughts, ideas, comments?

I think that is a great idea.  But, I have no idea how to create a hub site.  I used to get on a Pearl Jam hub along time ago but it was really crazy how insane people get about trading shows.  Shows were like ciggaretts in jail.  I had no shows so I was basically everyone's prison bitch.  I convinced one guy to finally donate a show to me with out anything in return, then I just kind of gave that up.  Everyone in that hub was really pretentious and talked down to people that didn't have a certain number of shows and hadn't been collecting for at least 6 years.  Anyway I'm all for spreading my shows I just haven't had the time to convert them all to flac and upload them to the Archive site.  I would rather do a hub though.  Mabey you can check into this for us Riny.  We could base the hub out of this site.  One thing that makes me sad however is that while I would upload everything I have, I'm afraid there are those people out there that wouldn't want to upload their shows and I'll be stuck with haveing nothing to trade with (no ciggaretts).  So, here is to everyone getting together and puttin all the shows we know of onto the hub.

I have a dream......and that dream is that one day all MMJ shows in existance will float freely through the internet for whovever wants to hear them.........and when I say "all" I mean mostly the ones I don't have yet. ;)

I was on the Beck hub for a couple of weeks as well. That's probably been over a year and a half though, so I probably wouldn't remember how to get logged in.
I know nothing about setting one up either. Wouldn't it be the same principles as torrenting?
Let's say that Brian has a particular show and there are 5 people downloading from him. Wouldn't it be slow until someone else completes the download and can share? So it doesn't help if you get a show and close DC++. Is that correct?

Actually I think it might just be person to person.  So I don't think that it really matters how many people are hosting the show.  Mabey the Archive site is the better way to go.  Mabey someone can clear up the DC++ thing, but it's probbably not gonna be me.  I guess the Archive site is just like one big ftp. server......right?

No, I think that it is direct peer to peer.  You actually go into the folder of a user (say I or Brain) look through the folders in our shared folders and download it.  How fast it goes depends on the connection speeds of both parties.  Everyone has a certain amount of downloading slots that are available for people to download off you.  So if you want a show from Brian but all his slots were filled you basically wait in line until a slot opens up.  This keeps download time and bandwidth reasonable.  I'm not an expert or anything, but I gather that that is how it works.

One good thing about DC++ is you can easily take shows down and put them back up.  So, we wouldn't have to share all of our shows at the same time.  We could use this forum to set up went certain shows go up and come down based on trades/requests.  This would solve your cigarette problem Brian.

I don't know anything about this DC thing. I think the archive.org system works great, it's really easy to use. if people would start sharing their cigarettes a little more, we'd all be smokin bigtime!

ah yes, the dreaded "slots".  It's all coming back to me now.  Someone has to give you a slot before you can download from them.  Unfortunatly you have to bend over and let them ass rape you before you will be granted a slot.  What a miserable experience that whole HUB thing was.  If we could convince Magnix and a few others out there to upload the ones I don't have I would be more than glad to share all mine.

note to self:  One g in cigarettes.

that seems really confusing and time consuming, that's why I thought DC++ would be cool, because you don't have to upload anything, you just put the files in a special folder that you grant people access to it.  But like I said, if Magnix is in, then I'll find the time and energy to be in too.  However, I've got a feeling that he's not going to want to jump through a bunch of hoops to share his collection either.

Magnix only trades for other MMJ shows and I don't think there is anyone out there that actually has any shows that he doesn't already have.  Well I now have two that I'm sure he doesn't have because I was the only one to tape them but he hasn't answered my e-mail.  Does anyone know what happened to Ger?
