Does anyone care about the Maestro?

I noticed that MMJ were sans conductor at the Palace.  Was the conductor only a temporary thing for the run-up to Bonaroo tour?  Or did he take the night off or what?

yeah he wasn't in philly either, but after hearing the boot they still play the clip of an orchestra "tuning" as they walked on before they started

I just wish they would give him a cow bell.

He's got a baton and the best seat in the house.

Man, I would sacrifice my left one to have his job.

I got to see him up close at the Tower Theater show and thought it was just really cool!  8)
Hope they bring him back for the fall tour headlining gigs.

I really enjoyed the maestro.  I hope he comes back, too.  And the puppets.  All of it was pretty nice.

i didn't get to see the maestro.  I thought the idea of him was a little silly at first but now if he's gone I'm kind of jealous of those of you who got to see him.   :(

It's totally silly.  That's why it's so awesome.  :)

We must all be very silly as often as we possibly can.

Even Jim was silly during the Roo. He said that everything, including them, was controlled from the blackbox in his pocket.

Lucky silly son of a baton.

I think the maestro and puppets crap was ok for bonnaroo only....but enough is enough...i don't want some dude blocking up the set.

realdeal

i agree.....i guess canadian fanboys are the biggest fans of all. Is there anything about this band that you don't like?

EC

ah crap.

I'm actually a girl. A fangirl.

Yeah, my post was bitchy.  Sorry about that.  I regretted it after I wrote it.

Given the title of this thread, and being English, I thought it must be discussing the merits of one of the biggest piles of shite that British Leyland ever turned out.

Wrong.  Ho hum.

What exactly is the story about this guy? Was he there just at this Bonnaroo-festival or at more shows? Did he stay the entire show or just a couple of songs? We're missing all the good parts here in Europe, it seems... :(
I'm ready when you are

O, he was there for all of their headlining gigs leading up to and including Bonnaroo.  He stood at the front of the stage and conducted the band.  He cleaned things up when they made mistakes.  He had big puffy white hair and (if I remember properly) coattails and he used a conducting wand.  The band commented numerous times about how grateful they were to have him there, and how they couldn't have done it without him.  I'm not sure how he came on board.

I think it's one of those things that's better if you don't think about it too much.  Like the puppets.  They were just there, and it was awesome.  :)

i've been mulling over this as of late at my boring job, and i think maybe they were poking fun at themselves for being a little rusty after not being on tour and in the studio for a while. maybe they needed some help from the maestro to get em back on track to playing kick ass shows....seems to me they didn't need the help, as i saw their first show with the maestro in philly and they rocked my face off even though all's jim said to the crowd was "MY FRIENDS!!!" with outstrectched arms

maybe i'm, just thinking about this too much...maybe they were just looking for some laughs...i'll shutup now

Haha, I thought the maestro was pretty sweet. One of those funny quirky things. However, he was right in my line of sight of Jim, which was a little frustrating. However, I did get to see Jim whenever he got out from his mic. Like when he pulled up to the monitor. I forget which song was it, but he looked around the crowd with a fist raised, and he looked over to me, I had my fist up too. And i nodded at him, he flashed me a big-ass grin and went back to rockin out by the drums. That was the moment that made Bonnaroo for me. Even there, those guys are still all for the fans. I love it.
