XPN Members, Comcast, and Drexel University College of Law.

Join Us Friday October 14 for
The XPN Free At Noon Concert
Broadcast from the TLA on South Street

Featuring My Morning Jacket

WHO:
My Morning Jacket is a five-piece band from Louisville, Kentucky, solidly built around the vocal and songwriting talent of group leader Jim James. Their sound is lonesome, haunting, classic, but shot through with both a rock and a soul sensibility that pays tribute to the band's roots, but is delivered with much less of a sense of place than a matter of heart and soul. As one astute fan has put it, "on one hand, the Jacket likes you to sit alone under a big velvety night sky riddled with bright stars, feeling nostalgic for all the meaningful moments, people, and places in your life. On the other hand, they like to rock so hard that shards of glass from broken beer bottles thrown against the chickenwire amidst a bar room brawl only adds to the rhythmic mayhem."

They are playing the TLA on Wednesday, October 12 and Friday night, October 14, with Kathleen Edwards. Their new CD "Z" was just released, October 4, on Dave Matthews ATO label.

This is a standing room only show.

WHEN:
Friday, October 14

WHERE:
TLA, 334 South Street, Philadelphia
DOORS OPEN:
11:30am

CONCERT STARTS:
12:00Noon

Signing up online for a Free At Noon show gives you priority standing, but does NOT guarantee you will get in. We typically overbook for each show due to anticipated no-shows. We've done pretty well estimating the total number of guests who will attend, however when a very popular artist is performing, we sometimes have to stop admitting people (even if they signed up in advance!) once we reach the maximum occupancy of the venue. This is a rare occurrence, but please know that it can happen.

If we are below the maximum number of occupants in the venue at noon, and no other pre-registered guests are waiting to gain entry, we will admit guests who did NOT pre-register. This will be done on a first-come, first-served basis.

Use public transportation if at all possible.

according to the interview on npr last night, jim said that the program director from xpn was one of the first real believers in my morning jacket when he worked for a local radio station in louisville. i also know that the band is friends with dave doughman of swearing at motorists, who are based out of philadelphia now (ever since THIS FLAG SIGNALS GOODBYE came out in 2002 and they left dayton), but i'm not sure if that's a reason for them to wanna stick around an extra coupla days. philly is only an hour and a half to 2 hours from nbc studios in new york, where they'll play conan on their "day off" on the 13th. my big question is: why would they play lancaster, pa? i've never heard of any other band hitting up chameleon club on their way up or down the east coast leg of a tour. i wish my girlfriend didn't insist i stay home tonight. i would've loved to drive down to show some support. anyway, hope to see some of you friday at either or both shows.
