Has anybody else noticed that their set lists on this tour have been pretty much identicle for every show. that kind of blows. Oh yeah, anyone else enjoy 'Northern Sky'.

yeah it puts me off a bit, considering i have 3 shows im going to in less than a week.  it seems to be a plague now by all bands.  is it because of Z or wot?

there are other bands like the decemberists who are just touring now for the fuck of it because theyve already done one tour promoting their new album, they maybe will play only 2 different songs a night.  modest mouse does the same shit.  dan bern has settled in to that funk, too.  wot the fuck gives?  can it be exciting for musicians to play nearly the same song every night, some times in the same order, only to change up things one or two times?

that said, i know the jacket is going to fuck rock me every time i go see them, but variety is the fucking spice of life.

I personally think it is because of the release of Z.  They are promoting a record that has gotten a lot of hype and there are a lot of industry people taking notice.  In my opinion I don't mind the similar setlists, that is not to say I wouldn't love for them to switch up the setlist more often.  But a show isn't always about what is played it is about the energy the band and the audience create.  And we all know that MMJ melts faces and rocks socks off. Also I hope that they do another U.S tour in the spring and during that tour I would expect them to switch the setlist up more on that tour.  Also to back this up the summer shows had a lager variety of songs.

yeah i feel torn in complaining because i know they have to promote wots out there now, and we hardcore fans that know the full catalogue are honestly in the vast minority.  still, its a valid wish to want more than just a small window of the show to change it up.  the energy will always be there true, i dont see how any one could complain about that.  hopefully louisville will hold some surprises??

Think about it this way: they've been playing about 16 songs a night.  Of course we want to hear all the new stuff (they're not taking into account people going to multiple shows).  There's more than half of the set gone.  Then they add in the favorites off the old albums (OBH, Run Thru, Way That He Sings) and now we're at 13 songs or so and then they mix it up for the last three or so (we've seen this with Sooner/multiple covers/The Dark/Picture Of You/etc.)

Basically, you can't please everyone.  People want to hear the new stuff.  People want to hear OBH and the like.  Maybe MMJ just needs to make some bad songs that they won't ever have to worry about playing at a live show ;).
yeah, so if it's sad, well you still gotta live till ya die

I'd definitely rather hear more variety, but it's gotta be tough with a new album just coming out. They could still buck the system and mix it up more, but it's clear that they're not going to do that.
Personally, I can do without hearing/seeing OBH, Way he Sings, Mageetah, etc. for awhile. Good songs but I hear them every time.
Glad to see I Think I'm Going to Hell on there, though; been waiting years to hear that one. Strangulation was the big treat awhile back.
How 'bout They Ran? Have they EVER played that one?

pretty sure most bands play nearly the same set list every night on tour. It's been like that forever. The Jacket does mix in some different tunes. Good to see The Dark back on the list.

Specialist

no complaints here, i think they have done a pretty good job of mixing it up.
Hold my life until I'm ready to use it

im in a not-very-well-known band that plays 1-2 times a week and from my own experience i can say that playing the exact setlist does get tiresome. BUT look at it this way too:  these songs (Z material) are  pretty new and new songs are always fun/exciting to play. its possible THEY want to play their new songs cuz they are feelin them!........ just because you dislike something doesnt mean its a corporate decision handed down to them!

I don't mind the same songs every night so much as I do the fact that they seem to be playing them in the same order each time. Switch it up, that's all I ask. That said, Wordless Chorus is one hell of a song to start a show with and Anytime is a great closer.
