Hi all. Well,  caught the Seattle show and the Porland show.  I'll try to do  full review laer.  Portand's show was prety typical for this tour, EXCEPT for 2 things that I feel re worth mentioning.  1st thing is that thy played Dancefloors. It was great.  The best hing though was the M. Wardcame out for the encore! t was good, not great though.  Always a pleasure seeing M.Ward. He played 3rd guitar on the 1st 4 of the 5 encore songs. I believe the encore was Into The Woods, Off The REcord, Golden, Anytime, and Mahgeeta.  I was hopin they'd do some more interesting stuff w/ M.Ward on stage, like Death is the Easy Way, or somethin. Still a pleasent treat, for an otherwise mediocre show.  I really hope if they tour in the spring  they mix up the setlists a bit more.  They have too many songs to be playing almost all the Z songs at each show. I know they are touring for the album and all but come on. Try and be a little less predictable. Sorry to sound so down on the band, they just are aggrivating me a bit on this tour.
Strangulation in Seattle was very nice, though.

I wondered if M. Ward would play at that show.  That's AWESOME.  (whothrewthecake, we have to get that thread bumped.)

PapaJoeBear, I don't wanna be a jerk, but if you're a band that's touring a new album, you play the fucking album.  That's the POINT of the tour.  That's, like, that's predictable because it's the way it's gotta be.  And each show is a new show for a new town, right?  You can see that, can't you?

dogandponyshow

Hit the Portland show as well and as always it was great.  The M. ward encore as PapaJoeBear was average.  Show was quite loud.  Medcicore is not my opinion off the show.   I thought the chemsitry as always was right there.

EC, how many times have we been over this? It's about the FANS, not the band. The band's thoughts, needs, desires and wants are irrelevant. They work for us and they should kiss our boots and play the most obsucre MMJ songs and covers possible! Starting with, The Pina Colada Song  ;)

sweatboard

Exactly!!!!!!!!!!  I don't even care if they like the song.  The forum has requested it so it should be done.  They should refer to this site when making any band or personal related decesions.

PapaJoeBear

Well whatever. You folks can be down on me all you want.  I love the new album.  There's not 1 throw away track on the whole thing.   I could give a damn if they play 'obscure' songs. I just want them to play a variety of songs. YOu know...its the spice of life.  You folks don't gotta be all snarky with the  "it's about the fans" comments.  Shows are about the fans though, just as much as they are about the band.   And  Sweatboard, you make a funny point as well, about the band not likeing the song. Well that happened to Phone Went West. They closed with that song ALL THE TIME, now they are tired of it.  How many times can they open with Wordless Chorus and follow it with It Beats For YOu before they get tired of it?

Jeez, you folks ask for opinions on a show, I give it. Then you jump on my back when I'm not sacrificing my first born to the band.  I though this board was for talking about the band, not sweating their balls.....

Lighten up people. Just 1 man's thoughts on his favorite band.

PJB, I know I came off as harsh, but I just don't get it.  If this was just a tour - like a tour for fun or something, like the little tour in the early summer, then yeah, of course they can play whatever they want.  And they did.  But this tour is promoting Z, so I don't really know what you want them to do?

Anyhow.  I'm sorry for being so harsh.  The predictable word hit a nerve.

Peace?

PapaJoeBear

LOL

No worries EC. I got no beef with anyone here that posted, even if you came off a bit harsh!  WE are all here because we are fans of THe Jacket.  And I guess predictable was an unfair word to say.  Of course they are touring for Z and they should be playing the songs off of Z.  But atleast change up the order of the songs.   I expect carbon copy performances from Backstreet Boys, Usher, and the such. Not from our boys. Maybe I except so much because they just mean so much to me. A little unfair, I know.  Just a bit unfun when I'm at they Portland show and I know what song they are playing next. Thats all.

Mad love for my fellow jacketeers

I think that PJB has a point, but didn't necessarily get it out right. Maybe he just meant that it would be slightly more mixed up if they opened with something besides "Wordless Chorus" at least once on this tour to shake things up a bit.
I definitely agree that they should be playing a lot of stuff from "z", but I also think that it wouldn't hurt to mix it up, at least just a little bit in terms of the order that they play those songs.

Does that make sense?
I'm totally not knocking them, btw.

tomEisenbraun

the thing is, Wordless Chorus, the way they do it, makes for a kickin opener. I'm sure they won't use it on the next tour, it's a very Z kind of thing. Who knows, I'd assume  they'd probably retire it after this tour for a little while and kick some asses with it here and there as a surprise. I think it's a great opener and wouldn't feel cheated or bored that every other city has gotten it. I'm sure they toured similarly with It Still Moves.

And they don't always go straight into It Beats 4 U afterward. They switched it up at Cincy.

right, papa.

we can agree to disagree. but, if I disagree, I am not asking you  to "sacrifice your first born to the band", I am simply disagreeing. it's just my opinion, I suggest you take it with a grain of salt b/c like you said, we're both here b/c of our love for the jacket.

Peace

PapaJoeBear

zycartrobz, that was sarcasm.

It just seemed everyone jumped on me for posting my opinion which was less than glowing. That's all.

and a lot of my jumping on you was sarcasm too.

no hard feelings, no nothing.

here's to the jacket cranking out great album after great album, forever.  :D

PapaJoeBear

'here's to the jacket cranking out great album after great album, forever'

I'll drink to that! ;D

I'm just looking forward to the day when they start playing for 2.5 - 3 hours a night.  That way we can get the new album stuff AND more of thier earlier stuff in the same show.

I definitely understand what EC is saying here.  The tour is about promoting "Z" and as much of it as possible.  On the other hand, I agree with PJB, as well, but only for a selfish reason.  I have been a fan, and a big fan, of the Jacket for several years, but I must admit, I just recently saw my first show in NYC (don't hate me).  I loved the "Z" tunes, but really wanted to hear some of the older, classic MMJ.  I guess I was disappointed that I didn't hear a lot of other stuff, but definitely understood why.  By the way, the show in NYC kicked my ass!

PapaJoeBear

Well Hard Helmet, if history repeats itself, we shall see a spring tour with a bunch of stuff off of all albums.  The spring after ISM came out, they toured and played all kinds of random stuff. We saw Cobra, O THe One That is Real, How could You know, I think they even broke out a Come Closer at one show. And I think they might have played a I Needed it Most too ( They REALLY REALLY need to play that n Seattle. My fiend and I even had signs for it at this show in Seattle.)  As whinny as I seem about this show, I know the boys will do us older fans justice in the spring.

PapaJoeBear

dragonboy

Sorry to disappoint you Papa Joe but next Spring they'll be in Japan!
*Please, please, please, please, please...*
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

tomEisenbraun

i'm crossin my fingers on next summer for another tour. i don't know. maybe they'll dabble some in the srping. I know spring is more for Europe and Japan and whatnot.

I don't understand all of this "mediocre" bullcrap about the Portland show -- I thought it was freakin' AMAZING!! Of course it was my first MMJ show so I don't have any previous ones to compare it to. BUT... i think MMJ has the most energy and excitement of any band I've seen in a long, long time (and i see a LOT of rock shows). My husband immediately hopped a plane to catch them in San Diego at the House of Blues. We're now Jacket Heads! We invited 'em to a crazy theme party after the Portland show, was disappointed they didn't come. Oh well, next time!
