I had tickets to Houston and was bummed out to learn about its cancellation; any ideas as to why they had to cancel?   I guess it's all water under the bridge, anyway.  I
figure that it had to be something important or they'd be there.   Oh well, the glass is still half full:  they didn't cancel
Dallas!    Anybody from here going to the Dallas show?   My
brother and my friends are heading up there and we're really
looking forward to it.    You can't go wrong with an MMJ show, right?!    Nuff sed, peace to all you beautiful creatures.

yea, more than likely they didn't sell enough tickets and figured it would be in their best interests to play shows where i dont know, more than 100 people would show to hear them jam. I went and saw them at the engine room about a year ago.. of course they slayed but surprisingly, it was a terrible turn out..when are people going to wake the fuck up and start listening  to one of the great bands of our time. I guess usher was playing a sold out concert at toyota center that night or somthing...  i dont blame em houstons music scene is about as lame as it gets .Anyhoo.. looks like its austin for me.. no worries though, the zona rosa kicks ass  ( only place better is emos) but be sure to bring your arms and legs if your planning on boozing it up inside.$ Till then....lay low let the fetus rock.

i saw that show at the engine room when i first moved to houston, and brought 2 roommates who were instantly converted. did anyone who was also there hear the 2 guys that kept yelling 'IT STILL MOVES!' after every song?

i had a group of atleast 6 people that were gonna go to next saturday's, but NOOOOO. yes, houston's 'scene'  could be called lame, but if they cancelled because maybe they didn't sell 100 or however many tics is pretty lame as well. oh well, it's a good thing we didn't get around to buying our tickets in advance yet(i knew it wouldn't sell out). looks like i won't be buying them in advance for any of their other shows down here either. this gives me an excuse to go see 'em at the gypsy tea room, which i've never seen a show at. roadtrip! and if mmj doesn't make up this date that they postponed/cancelled, then i think they're missing out on a great opportunity to continue building on an already- growing fanbase in houston. hell, i'd help promote a houston show if they were really hurting that bad to sell tickets. fuck the masses! there are as hungry mmj fans here as anywhere(maybe just fewer or spread out).

If MMJ cancelled the Houston show because of slow ticket sales all I can say is "BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

The notation on the touring schedule listed circumstances beyond the band's control, so I'm hoping it was something as simple as attending a friend's wedding...  But when bands start cancelling shows because they're not sellouts, that's when I start listening to other bands!  Whether its 100 people or 100,000 people I think a band owes it to the fans to play shows for as many people as are willing to shell out the cash to see them/buy their music.  Sorry, everyone can't be the Stones.

And to the people complaining that the Houston music scene is "lame", I disagree.  The scene is as lame or as cool as YOU make it.  In the past year I've seen incredible (and PACKED) shows in Houston by  bands as diverse as Wilco, Stars, NIN, the Roots, Arcade Fire and Ambulance Ltd, just to name a few.  If you have a problem with not enough people attending your favorite band's show, perhaps you should try to get more people excited about going to see them.  There are local music booking collectives (Superunison) that I'm sure would LOVE to have you volunteering to help them get out the word.  Just because you bought a ticket doesn't give you an excuse to rag about other people's apathy.

If you don't like what's happening in "the scene" then DO SOMETHING about it.  :)

No one except the band (and maybe Riny) knows why it was cancelled. The guy that posted above was merely speculating that it was because of poor ticket sales, which I HIGHLY doubt is why they didn't play.

dude these guys have played rooms with nobody in em because the people hwo showed up were the ones who really wanted to be there. They wouldn't cancel because not enough people would show up. That's an awful reason. There probably was something one of the guys had to be at that night that was more important on a family kind of sense of things.

what you read on message boards is absolute truth, so im kinda torn here as to what to believe.   ::)

No way that MMJ of all bands chose not to play due to a lack of ticket sales.  I could see them turning around and playing one of their best shows just for the fans that wanted to show up.

billybluebeard

There was a humidity advisory that conflicted with their hair. ;D

Seriously though, I thought they cancelled so they could record the Austin City Limits show, no?
Why's it surreal when my hands feel they cant roll the jay?

corey

I'd say that would be a damn fine reason. I , for one, can't fucking wait to see that show.
