ok here goes...

ok i, like a lot of other people on this list, have probably been ultra stoked to see all these festival dates pop up in the past few days and wonder what other summer plans the boy may have.  it started to hit me though, what about the european dates?  honestly, ive felt some of the ill will towards the band in the past has been unwarranted, especially since jim & the boys arent directly to blame for any decisions like that since they dont book their own shows.  i think the announcement of coachella & bonnaroo is a pretty piss poor PR move right now.  the entire european & australia tour was cancelled, and the poor fans over there (and so many people on the forum) are completely left in the dark, some who didnt even get a refund from the last time around.  i know its not jim's, tommy's, carl's, patrick's, bo's fault on this because they have a record company and a booking agent to do all this, but they feel the effect from it.  where the fuck is the word about the european tour?  imagine how we in the states would feel if we were in the same position.  our tour had been cancelled, but all the sudden theyre booking dates back in the places they always play.  we'd be big time pissed.  i have to say that MMJ must have the worst PR & marketing team in the fucking world.  sorry to say, it smacks of ridiculous bullshit.

i hope all the european fans get the shows back, and i hope they get word soon.  your silence and absence from the board speaks volumes, and you guys dont deserve that.

ali

don't forget australia - we didn't even get a chance to buy tickets before the tour was cancelled here...

the announcement of the us dates just made me glad that they're obviously up & at em again, but it would be nice to have been given even a vague idea of when the europe & australia tour would happen
love a song for the way it makes you feel

Angry Ewok

Well, considering we never even got an update as to Jim's health - I've come to expect nothing in the way of PR.

--- and that's 2 real 4 u.

I agree with Ratsprayer & Angry Ewok.
I came to the site everyday during Dec & Jan expecting an update of some kind. I don't know, just a couple of lines to say that Jim was slowly getting better. You could argue that that goes without saying but it doesn't, as we all well know, pneumonia is serious & complications can occur.
Wouldn't an unreleased/alternative version of a song over Christmas have been a good idea? Just to keep the the fans happy & the attention there.
Of course, we kept ourselves busy on the forum but not everybody posts or even looks here. I was a huge fan of the Jacket for a year or so before I started looking at the forum & it was another year or so before I started posting.
For 2 months there was nothing, the site didn't change at all.
What about the Sooner track on the CD that came with the Dec issue of Mojo? Wasn't that news worthy?
I can't help but wonder how many new or casual fans the band have lost during this time.
It would have been nice (polite?) if a few days before the US festival dates were announced there had been a few lines on the news page, words to the effect of 'Jim is getting better & the band are now looking at US festival dates in the summer. They are also busy trying their best to arrange new dates in Europe & Oz'
Ratsprayer is right, this isn't the bands fault & no one is blaming them. I just felt really sorry for all our European friends on the forum (& Ali in Oz) when the new dates were posted. It doesn't matter what country you're from, if your dates are cancelled & then new dates are announced without any news of yours being rescheduled (or new dates being arranged) you're going to be upset.

Especially when it's the best band in the world!  :)
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

ali

i agree with ya db - although it does kind of make me sound like i will be the only soul in the audience when they do make it down here...  ;D not that i would mind....  ;D
love a song for the way it makes you feel

ChiefOKONO

yea seriously.. i totally agree with you guys.
i think the european dates should be announced before anything else. but perhaps its gonna be in fall so they haven't solidified anything yet. hopefully they will at least say something About the cancelled european dates!

Mr. T.

I'm glad I wasn't the first to get in the complaining-mood.

I'm happy to feel the concern from the other side of the ocean for us european fans.
Too bad that concern isn't coming from the PR-people around the band. they're doing a pretty lousy job.
No word on heath developments, no word on further touring plans, nothing, ... silence... I wouldn't have any problems with that if they 'd announce news on the cancelled european shows first, but no, american dates again...

I might be rushing a bit, they're might be european dates announced shortly, but hey, we're pretty much left in the dark here :-/.

oh ratsprayer, so devilish! But you make a great point.  MMJ's PR machine has been crusty and rusty of late.   Well, they've always been really.  These guys should be stars and their original fan base should not be alienated in the process.  That should not be too much to ask for this band.  Between their shitty PR moves and Sony putting viruses on Z, I'd think the band ought to be second-guessing their move to ATO.

If there's no news, why would anything get posted?  Seriously folks.  The band's PR people have done a great job in helping getting the name My Morning Jacket on all of your minds over the years...but if they don't have anything official to report, there's nothing to add.

When the word comes, it'll be here.  :)

Mr. T.

If shows get cancelled, it's up to PR people to deal with the situation, not to shut up and dissapear.
Any update of some sort would be good. Are they looking for new dates? Are they still waiting due to ongoing health problems? are they not caring? We just don't know! :-/
If they are not looking for new dates, I want to know that!

PR people should anticipate on those questions. That's their job, that's what they get paid for.

So you are saying that if they don't know anything they should just lie?  Make up things?

I've got an update;  there's no news to report.  There...that's an update.  Is that what you mean?
Runnin' from somethin' that isn't there

Mr. T.

Don't get me wrong.

Just an official word that they're not looking for other dates (for any reason whatsoever) would be nice.

john, do you defend everything about this band just because you know them?  as i said, personally the band cant be blamed, but i dont see how you cant admit its fucking stupid that festival dates are planned over here after a major tour was cancelled completely, and theres no word to say theyre going to reschedule or not and when it will be.  no things shouldnt be made up, thats not even the point.  the fact is, PR is non-existant and they need to get their asses of their shoulders and let the fans know whats going on.  now im beginning to see why the european fans get so pissy about things, especially when a huge issue like this is completely slagged off by people like you.

That's a pretty dick question, ratsprayer.

John's right, you dudes.  If there's no news, why post about it?  Do you WANT them to have dumb-ass pr that makes shit up and tells you superfluous information that you don't really need to know?

The only date that is official is the Bonnaroo show.  Which, of course, is on the shows page.

If there's no news to report, it doesn't get posted.  Whether all the other "official" notifications from folks becomes reality is another story.  What you are advocating is nonexistent news-I'm quite certain when updates are made official, they will get posted here.

If people get pissy about what I say, I'm sorry.  I'm not defending anything-save the idea that offical news gets posted here.

Relax.  We're nto debating the 2nd coming or anything.  This is still music, right?
Runnin' from somethin' that isn't there

ratsprayer

do you even read what i post?  no one wants made up news at all.  even if the european tour isnt cemented yet, just the simple fact of  "its beng worked on" or something like that.

look, all you louisville people got hot headed when the bonnaroo run-up was announced last year, then the entire Z tour was mapped out before the louisville date was added because it was nearly 18 months since lebowski fest.  if you were in the same boat, youd be wondering and upset.

and yes it was a dick question, because it came from a dick.  simple as that.

ratsprayer

yes it is still music, rock on!

i'm just trying to put forth a different point of view on things.  i know even for me personally i was a bit put off the last time with some of the people across the pond getting upset about the tour being cancelled and some of their comments, but i'm just saying i empathise now and know where they're coming from.  they haven't spoken up about this issue, and i know it's on their minds, just trying to bring something in to the limelight that i feel should be addressed and rendered to make all the fans happy.  everyone wants their jacket, no harm in that, right?   ;D

ycartrob

perhaps you guys should get a life and don't get all bunged up if  the PR guys don't let you know what ply toilet paper Jim uses...

corey

I don't have any idea about this, but there still lots of time between now and Bonnaroo. Who's to say that they won't annouce some European dates before Bonnaroo?

Did you guys think of that? It's definitely a possibility.

Just because Bonnaroo got announced first, it doesn't mean that it's the next show that they're doing.

I may be completely off about this, but there is a chance that it could happen.

sivalc
