Hi, I just came over here to see if there was any news on the "rescheduled" European dates. Alas no, just announcements of US dates ( ???)
having read some of the threads here I notice that some of you know the band or at least claim to know the band.
So I ask you a favour, next time you see them could you ask them if and when they intend to come back to Europe? and tell them that booking US dates is just rubbing salt in the wound, a wound that has healed and reopened four times now. :-/
Thanks for indulging me
Christine.

fact of the matter is, when recovering osmehting as serious as "complications from pneumonia," you probably aren't going to want to fly overseas and run an entire European tour as a way of getting back in the game. They're playing just three or four shows, two of which aren't more than a four hour road trip away.

they aren't shafting you guys, they're getting back into the swing of things, and doing so by taking it a little easy. so take 'er easy, they will most certainly get aorund to you. Y'all probably have serious priority, seeing as it's you they had to cancel on. They don't hate you. Being pissed because Jim got ill won't do anything but make it worse.
The river is moving. The blackbird must be flying.

Funny, I don't recall asking for your opinion, just asking someone to pass on a message.

It's nice to see that "they'll get around to us " good of them that.
I'm not pissed that  what-his-nuts got sick that would be absurd, I'm not that selfish, but put yourself in our place. How many jacket shows did you get to see last year or have the oppurtunity to see? A lot more than us, which is none, same for the year before that and the year before that.
Don't even start me on money we lost on travel/hotels.

I remember when my dad had pleurasy, a complication from pneumonia, and broke three ribs coughing, still only had three weeks off work and he works outside.

You can make as many excuses for them as you like but it's clear that Europe is no longer a priority for them, but I wouldn't expect you to understand.

calm down chris t!!! i'm sure tom's not having a stab at you - just there has been a big outpouring of angst on the board about cancelled & non-rescheduled shows since the end of last year.

they will get around to rescheduling shows, but we all have to be patient. as tom says, they're probably starting off slowly to get back into the swing of things, (it has been 3 months since they played a show after all) and we'll see more dates appear on the shows lists... you just have to be patient along with the rest of us.

you are not the only person who is very keen to see them, and not the only non-US person. the jacket haven't been to australia since the very start of 2004, so we've been waiting a while too. i've never seen them live, so i'm sitting tight, fingers crossed too.  surely it's only natural that, as they are an american band, that they first play local (american) shows, then travel overseas to play shows for their fans. every other band on the face of the planet does it this way... most of the people on this board are american or canadian, so of course they are lucky enough to be able to see many more shows. they are also lovely people who write reviews, post photos or even video footage of those shows to share with the rest of us. which is great!!

i've also had pleurisy, and cracked a rib from coughing. so i know what you're talking about. but we don't know the details of jim's exact medical condition, so who are we to whinge about him not being fighting-fit in a couple of weeks, or months or whatever. it is none of our business, we can only wish him a speedy recovery & let nature take its course.

how can you say europe is no longer a priority for them?? that is just ridiculous. shit happens, people get sick, its not like they have a "problem" with europe & europeans, so they've decided to snub you... geez.

just enjoy the music, enjoy talking to the rest of us about the music, and be PATIENT!!!
love a song for the way it makes you feel

WONDERFUL response, ali.  Tremendous.  I clap my hands to you.  bra-vo!!!  :)

What a dickhole thing to say.

devil's advocate here!  Chris T, my advice / opinion on things is that the people who know the band are probably the last people you'd want to pass along this message.  they defend the band at every last angle and will just see you as bitter and ungrateful.  i started a thread a while back trying to show some (albeit in a bitter tone) sympathy for the european fans and dismay at the handling of things.  so it goes.  your best hope is knowing the band reads the message board pretty occasionally and will set things right at some time in the future.  hopefully it's sooner than later for you over there.    :)

i heard from a friend of the band that Jim had to be hospitalized due to the complications from the pneumonia...that it had gotten into his heart...that is serious shit...a lot more serious than broken ribs (not to take anything away from your father who sounds like a bad ass for working in that amount of pain).  but Jim also doesn't have to support a family and is probably doing ok in the finance department that he doesn't have to work when he is sick like the rest of us poor suckers!

we are lucky that Jim is well and that something worse didn't happen and none of us would ever see MMJ again!  be thankful for what you have and what life deals you.  MMJ will come to Europe..probably in the Fall when the get their tour legs back!  be patient!  long live the Jacket!

Damn, this thread went from peaceful to bombastic like no other.  Greed is a sin.
and me saying that is an irony in itself.  hah!

Chris T..........most of the artists I love are from England...chances are, I'll never see 90% of them live in concert, so don't feel bad........maybe we should switch countries.  ;)

That's a good point Rob. It's natural that a band plays more in their own country. I reckon most bands do - even if they have had to go abroad to get the ball rolling in their early days.
I'm keen to see them back here but I'd rather wait for a tour that really happens rather than have an announcement of a tour that gets cancelled because the plans have been premature.

Chris T - it was out of order to be rude to Tom. If you stick around a while you'll see he's the last person who deserves it. I do get your point about the repeatedly cancelled shows though. That's why I don't think they shouldn't make any half-arsed announcements. That's not to say the odd word of encouragement isn't welcome.

Mr. T.

i'm with you on that one. I want them to fully recover before heading to the old continent. I don't want another MMJ-show without vocals like Brussels 2003.

I also hope Jim won't tire himself  and his voice touring (i.e. doing some festivals) again in America. Touring in europe first seems a safe bet to me ;)

Don't you ever get bored of saying that?
Did you write that one yourself? or did the organ grinder script it?

ooooooooooooookay.

Mind your manners.  Riny IS the webmaster/moderator/guru here.  I know I shouldn't feed the trolls, but being pissed off at Riny is as pointless as being pissed off at your supposedly favorite band, or the ocean, or the wind.  Pointless.  Utterly pointless.

He's just sharing what he knows.  You being pissed off about that isn't going to change anything.
