Guys

First time seeing the band.  I'm drunk and tired, but...

THEY FUCKIN' ROCK!

Can't remember the setlist but here's an image of JJ from the front during OBH

They just blew us away tonight.  The Astoria was awash with love and sweat.

Forgot to say what was the highlight of the night...

I saw DragonBoy on the way to the toilet.  Better than meeting the band  :P

Allright!!!!!!!

I'm pretty drunk at the moment. I should be asleep now but wanted to check in first on the Astoria show.

I hope you all had a great evening! I'm sure you all got kicked your asses  by Jim and his mates, while I was dancing on Snaps Rythm is a f*n' dancer.. :P

I'm looking forward reading all of your reviews tomorrow!

Bring them on boys, bring them on....

This was the end of the show.  Can't remember the song right now - I am destroyed by guitars and beer..

Setlist to follow from someone who took notes and didn't mosh like a nutter (ie not me)

PS - I'm SuperDrunk (TM).  Just swigged some single malt in an effort to bring me down.

Not working.

Back in the land of the living (just), sipping tea at home nursing a sore head and neck.

As I said last night, this was my first time seeing the guys, having arrived too late to see them supporting Doves in 2003.

The Astoria filled up steadily during the support; for those of you who haven't been there it is a small venue holding 1500-2000 at a guess.  It's all standing downstairs, 40 feet from  crush barrier to sound desk, with a couple of (well used) bars behind the desks.  Upstairs is a curving balcony with what looked like tables and chairs scattered around.

I'm hopeless at setlists, I'm afraid, but I can say that the opener was Wordless Chorus.  The sound was unbelievable   - all the clarity of the recording, but with Jim's voice even stronger than I could have hoped for.  They started early (8.30ish) due to a curfew, but played until 10.30 or so.

The guys put in an unforgettable performance, mixing songs from Z with offerings from all the other albums and a great accoustic interlude from Jim solo on guitar.

Highlights for me were, well, everything. Phone Went West, Run Thru, X-Mas Curtain, and an astonishing encore closer with Magheetah.  I almost expired from moshage during OBH one row from the front  8).

The crowd seemed fairly subdued during some parts of the performance, but in all honesty I think this was due to the band's sheer power and presence onstage.  They went nuts at the end, though, as my picture above attests!  None of our small group could believe what we were seeing/hearing - it was without a doubt a virtuoso example of live stagecraft backed up with a great back catalogue of strong songs.

For those who were there, it will live long in the memory.  I would walk barefoot over hot coals to see them again, anywhere, anytime.

Thanks Mark for posting so fast! I was thinking about you all last night. I knew it would be fab!

Well.... what can I say.... amazing.  My first Jacket show and definitely not my last.  I turned up early and got to the front smack in front of Jim (I'm not the tallest and I hate not being able to see the band).  The show was awesome, they didn't let up at all, every song was as intense as the next.  It was one of those nights that reaffirms your faith in music.  Being at the front I couldn't see what the crowd reaction was like, but the place felt like it was buzzing all the way through and everyone was grinning from ear to ear at the end.  I wasn't sure what the crowd would be like seeing as the gig took ages to sell out and due to the fact that the band are not particularly well known over here.  I just hope they come back real soon... hopefully they will reschedule the Birmingham show and I can get another fix.

I have to apologise to the chap who asked me to save his spot at the front, if you're reading this I'm sorry, I tried to keep it but it got swallowed up by the crowd.  Hope it didn't ruin the gig for you.

Also worthy of mention is David Dondero who I really enjoyed as the support act.  He had some great songs and Jim quoted some of his anti-war lyrics at the end of the gig.

All in all a superb night, I've been to some amazing gigs but this was definitely up there with the best of them.

Anyone else got any pictures they can share?

ratsprayer

I concur! Great talking to some fellow jackets in The Tottenham before the gig. And you, who i don't remember the forum name of, with the norwegian relatives, inside the Astoria. And dudess who i met at the entrance.

And what a fantastic show! I think my favourite of the night must've been I Think I'm Going To Hell. I was stunned and frozen during that one.

Hopefully get to go to London again for an MMJ Show in the near future.
