Austin!

im thinking about going to dallas on fri. I am hoping that the dallas shows don't  tire mmj for my austin show.  I hope the second night will be just as awesome as the second, maybe the second night will be a night of rarities, wouldn't that be awesome?

Crispy

Yes, rarities! And long-playing favorites! And obscure covers! All the things we long to hear at MMJ's legendary live shows! I didn't *fully* appreciate Cobra the first time I heard it 2 years ago in Dallas, may we please hear that one again? ;)

and myself and a BUNCH of friends will be at the austin show on saturday!!!
driving down from arkansas!!!

JohnnyRage

R U still needing a place to stay Blaine? I wasn't sure if I was going to have to miss the Dallas shows due to working at night, but now I'm 90% sure I'll be working days next week.

I'll be at all three shows (fingers crossed!)

This will be my 2nd time to see them this year, but Rites of Spring Festival at Vanderbilt is still a little fuzzy in my memory.

i'm not sure if we will be needing a place to crash or not...
we were thinking of just picking up a hotel room somewhere in between dallas/austin...one of my buddies just got back from iraq

blainesanders

wow... for some reason my post got cut short!
anyways, i'm supposed to meet up  w. my friend really early next saturday morning, and i would hate to put you out and then wake you up early the morning after a jacket show!!
i know that can be tough!!!
but i would like to meet up and maybe have a beer or four before the show!! it's always great hangin out w. people who like good music!!!  you in???

JohnnyRage

I'm up for anything. Also, etwvigO owes me a beer too. But now it will be to cry in since Texas lost to KState on Saturday.

I just got back from Austin, and I can verify that the city is still there. Everything is a GO.

Whatever works for you. There are mid size towns every half hour on your way down to Austin from Dallas. Which is cool because it gives you driving goals and opportunities to stop for breaks, but when you've driven that route as many times as I have, they pretty much taunt you with expectedness and inability to get to Dallas/Austin faster.

Dallas
Waxahachie (some optoions_
Hillboro (probably pretty convenient on and off the highway)
Waco (bigger city, Baylor University may have hostels?)
Temple (nice town, but hell if you've made it this far)
Georgetown
Keep Austin Wierd

awesome!!
thanks for the info!
i used to live in both dallas and austin, but that was years ago and i don't make it down past dallas very often.
i'll shoot you an email later this week and give you my cell # that way we can try and meet up!!

Crispy

If you guys are interested, me and mine will probly be at Sol's Taco Lounge before the show - it's just a couple blocks from the Gypsy.
Anybody have any afterparty info?

yo. i will be driving up from houston on friday and wondered about what time the band will go on. i know to get there ASAP to get a good spot in line before the doors open, and thus inside the club, but some shows i've arrived at 10 and the band was already halfway done. it takes something special for me to make the houston to dallas drive, on a traffic-packed friday no less (45 SUX!), but considering they didn't reschedule for houston and i punked out for last year's gypsy show, it's time to hit the road! any houstonians making the trek that day? i might suggest taking 59 N then cutting over to 45 at cleveland. maybe i should just call in sick...

Crispy

I'm coming from Oklahoma that day, also dealing with interstate traffic on I-35, though not as bad as 45 I'm sure. And I am taking the whole day off in order to get there in enough time, even though my girlfriend won't be ready to go until 1! I think we got inside at about 8:00 last year, after the opener had started and we ended up pretty close to the stage.

Hey blaine - I'll be looking for you, we're 2 couples and we'll have that road-weary look also!
"...it's gonna be great -- I mean me coming back with the band and playing all those hits again"

JohnnyRage

last year they didn't start until 10:00 or 10:30. It was pretty crowded. I got there at 10 and only made my way up 2/3 of the crowd cuz I was with a date. It was still great.

The gypsy tea room is flat so it helps to get good vantage points or be tall.
