My Morning Jacket/the Slip: This strong show is sold out. But hear both bands live on WXPN (88.5 FM) today. Boston trio the Slip serves it up for free at noon. Around 11 tonight, My Morning Jacket offers their mourning, "Louisville soul" pastiche of rock, twang, balladeering and rhythm music from the Electric Factory stage.

**I can't see from the WXPN site that MMJ will be broadcast live.  I think only the Slip will be:

Can anyone record the FM broadcast so that we have a better quality version then the web cast?

What a glorious show.  This was my first time seeing the boys, and I'd been anticipating it for so very long.  Unfortunately I started getting into them right after they played at the TLA last year.  Anyway, I was front freaking row center.  Not only did they sound amazing and absolutely huge, but every band member was just so damn much fun to watch.  Here's the setlist.  I got Patrick's copy :).  I'm writing it how it's typed on the list I got:

it beats for you
gideon
wonderful
one big
laylord
phone
dondante
i needed it most
at dawn
golden
lowdong
way he brings
dancefloors
mahgettah
they ran

   -----
wordless
off the record
i will sing
run thru
anytime

----------------------------------------------------------
Some highlights:
-Phone Went West was really kick-ass, esp. at the end/climax
-I needed it most was a nice surprise.  I was a bit disapointed they didn't play a few more from Tenn. Fire, but I ain't complainin'
-Dancefloors probably  most contributed to the ringing in my ears I'm experiencing.  It's so damn heavy and tight at the end, and Jim was doing karate kicks with his flippin' sweet new skeleton moonboots.
-Mahgeetah might be my favorite song in the history of songs.  I was pretty much going nuts during it, it pumps me up so.  I have bruises on my knee from slamming it against the barrier.
-Karl was on frickin' fire at the end of I Will Sing You Songs.

Goodnight.

Forgot to mention Jim's funny banter.  He said that Philly is like your favorite beanbag chair at your grandmother's house, the beanbag chair that your ass just eases into perfectly..

Then he got serious for a minute and talked about how it has been proven by science that low-end/bass frequencies can make one pregnant--both men and women; he asked that audience members who feel the bass going up inside them through the appropriate orifice, and who think they might be getting "preggers" scream to let the band know.  Paraphrase of course, but that was the gyst.

You are so lucky.  You are going to end up with a super high quality recording of the show you went to!
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Yeah, I can't believe we're all pregnant now.

But it was so worth it.

What a great show last night.  I can't add anything that hasn't been said already.  It was my first time seeing them and it was hair raising brilliant.  Loved it.

I talked (via email) with the program manager over at WXPN and they will not allow the show to be downloaded but they will have it up for streaming sometime this week. As alot of the public radio channels do, it'll probably be at a reduced bitrate of 64kbps and will most likely sound like junk...
but if that's all we get, that'll have to do.

I like the way you think.  "Made it to the Ocean had a Smoke in a Tree",  "I am the shoreline and You Are the Sea"  :D
