I hope this question doesn't get people pissed off or anything - I was just WONDERING since Travis is from Louisville, if any of the guys knew him.  Or if they know Ray Rizzo or Chuck Mingus.

I once dated a girl that knew several members of Days of the New but not Travis Meeks. After he went solo he got a bad rap around louisville/southern indiana and people hate how the fame got to his head.
I worked with Patrick for a while at a restaurant but I guess I never answered your question... I don't know if they knew or know him.

It's really too bad what happened to Travis.  He is so talented, but I guess it's kind of the classic case of Rock Star gets famous, loads of money, loads of drugs and then everything starts to crumble.....I'm sure it's pretty tough to keep your head together with all the pressure and outside influences that just want to f_ck with you.  God!  I hope that NEVER happens to any of the guys in MMJ!  It would be so sad!  It's too bad he's got a bad rap in his own home town.  I stopped in Louisville after heading back from Nashville where we went to see A Perfect Circle and we went to his recording studio - he wasn't there, of course, but some guy gave us a little tour and we saw his gold records (or whatever they were) for the first yellow cd.

Anyway!  Enough of my babble!  I did think they might know Chuck Mingus though...but whatever!

I'm sure the fame is actually quite difficult to deal with. I don't know if I could handle it... so many people out to screw you...

Interesting story actually and I'll paraphrase but you'll get the picture.  One of my best friends lived in L'ville for a bit and his roommates friend wanted a little blow.  (no it wasn't for me, not my thing, only greenery here and good beer here)  After a few phone calls we went to one of his friends houses who distributed occasionally.  Well while we were there we smoked up a little and listened to some PJ.  He started kind of laughing and was like hey you guys want to hang around.  We were like what for?  He said the Days of the New singer is coming by to get some blow.  We were like "no shit".  We hung around for about 15 minutes and then had to go.  So we didn't see him, but the guy was like "yeah, he came by like 15 after you left."  He hung out for a minute but they said he wore out that welcome in that few minutes.  They said he was the biggest prick, arrogant and was acting like they should feel privileged to sell coke to a rock star.  They said they kinda clowned on him when he started acting like a prick.  They tried to be cool and chill, but said he was just too much of an asshole.  I guess too much meth and coke'll do that to you.  I don't know.  Just thought I'd share though.
It's just the way that he sings

Oh yeah this was like two years ago maybe.  Hopefully he's cleaned up some.  Pretty good music actually.

I've heard no word on what's happening.  I only know his girlfriend moved to Sedona, AZ and with their baby girl, Emma.  She tried helping Travis many, many times, but it was always back down in the hole.  I mean look at Layne Staley - he had everything with AIC, and he was dead in his apartment for something like TWO WEEKS!?!  HELLO!  Where were his all of his "friends"??  I always will wonder - didn't anybody worry about him or try to call him or stop by?  Or did people just leave him alone, like Jerry Garcia, when he was hooked into his heroin - it's like their attitude was "It's no use, just leave him alone."

Luckily Jim is well-grounded and we never let the fame get to his head (hopefully, at least he hasn't yet).  He's one of the most humble people I've ever met, rock star or not.  Also, I think he's too smart to become an addict and live a "short, bitter, fucked-up life".

I've never met Travis but all the stories I've heard aren't pleasant.  Ray Rizzo is a nice guy though.

i hear jim snorts pixie sticks off the gold records he bought from travis meeks.

ROCK ON!  Ray is such a great guy.  I'm glad I've had the opportunity to hang a little with him.  I met DOTN after a show in North Carolina.  Everyone was really cool - Travis was...what can I say?...Travis!  He's pretty intense, but he was kind enough to take a pic with me & Ray.

Ahem....well...er....uh....actually, yes!  There are people who like Days of the New.  AND, if I may be so bold as to add, there are people who ACTUALLY LIKE Justin Timberlake!
