Lovin' Cup is by far the best fuckin' cover that any band could ever play.  Seriously, listening to the roo '06 and i cannot believe how amazing this jam is, MMj style (best style in the world) un fuckin' believable->the Who?

These guys are the best band in the world

Pookiecool

one might think i am hung up on covers.  don't you worry, I seriously feel that My Morning Jacket is by far the best band I have heard since my introduction to the compact disc (jimmie hendrix, dave brubeck)

Just give me a nice Steam Engine and i am all goood

Please keep them coming strong, and definitely give me another Roo

How well do you know Hendrix? It's Jimi by the way.

I haven't heard the Jacket's version yet, but my favourite version is the original.  Phish did a great cover too. MMJ don't crack my Top 10 favourite bands, but they are one of my favourites of the last 5 years or so.

I love covers when a band plays live...and Lovin Cup is certainly a great one.  I don't think a lot of bands would dare to pull off some of the covers MMJ has done.

I personally can't believe how great the "A Quick One" was, thought I only heard the tapes, wasn't at the show.  That's not exactly  a simple 3 chord song, but they made it sound tight like they have been playing it for years.

Hmmm, i think all of 'Exile' is solid - definitely my favorite Stones album...

I would love to hear Jimmy J. cover 'Ambulance Blues' off of Neil Young's album 'On the Beach' - now that would be something ... and he would nail it.

A man can always dream.  :)

Also 'Older Guys > Head Held High' is one sweet cover combo - the segue is perfect.

Thanks for sharing that...but who doesn't know that? Exile may be the best album ever recorded....in my own humble opinion.

The Crowes do a mean Loving Cup.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

hmm....well.....apparently the two people who posted that it was a Who song, and a Jimi song didn't know that.   Was just trying to pass on some info.  I love how everyone on message boards instantly become cocky and arrogant.  Sorry for sharing.....carry on.

I wasn't trying to be cocky...really wasnt.  I was just confused by your statement.  I didn't read that post as you did, but now that you point it out, I understand what you meant.

If I wanted to be cocky and arrogant, I'd piss on you.    Now can we all just get along?

I generally prefer to be catheterized during rock shows, it keeps the peace.

I also have a stunning "Let it Bleed" by the Black Crowes.  Glad to share if anyone wants it.

How often does MMJ really do covers?  I've only seen them live twice, both performances at this years High Sierra Music Festival (and they blew me away).  I also have a handful of live recordings, none of which have any covers on them.  Do they do covers on a regular basis?  Can't wait for The Fillmore.

From what I gather, they subtly throw in covers from time to time, although I knew they were going to do Nick Drake's "Northern Sky" when they played Toronto during their Z tour.

I just read this thread and no one said that was a who song or a hendrix song
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

I love the Crowes cover of 'Fearless' -
man, the Crowes in addition to being a great band pick some incredible songs to cover.

I agree on that.  Ive seen them maybe a dozen times over the years and I think they are also one of the greatest live bands out there.  I saw them at Toads Place last year shortly before I saw MMJ they played It takes a lot to laugh...It Takes a Train To Cry, and thats a great one.  It was always one of my favorite Dylan turned Dead tunes.

Strangely enough, at that time, before i knew much about MMJ I kept calling them "MY MORNING SONG".
