Show of the week
So far, the critical praise and shout-outs from the famous (like Dave Grohl) haven't helped My Morning Jacket break through commercially in nearly the same way it has artistically. The band's last studio album, "Z," was a worthy mash of styles ranging from classic Southern-rock riffage to hippie-dippie white-boy reggae, but it failed to spark sales. The follow-up, the brilliant live double disc "Okonokos," ably captures Jim James and Co.'s concert wizardry, but the last live album to launch an act onto the pop charts was probably "Frampton Comes Alive." But you never know; Thursday's My Morning Jacket show at The Depot, 400 W. South Temple, might be one of the last chances for Salt Lake City to catch a stadium-ready act in a club.
The show starts at 9 p.m.; tickets are $20 in advance, $22 day of show, at SmithsTix outlets and the venue.
