Alright...just in from night 1 at the 9:30 Club.  I started out keeping a setlist on my phone, but that got to be a drag, so I asked for a setlist on my way out. =)  corrections welcomed:

anytime
off the record
gideon
wonderful man
O is the one
lowdown
golden
bear
dondante
x-mas curtain
lay low (laylord)
one big holiday
mahgeetah
--break--
acoustic? -- that's what's on the setlist, the name of the song will come to me eventually
i think i'm going to hell
wordless chorus
it beats 4 you
dance floors
run thru

for my first show, i thought things went pretty well.  jim busted 2 strings late in the first set and something went really wrong on carl's side of the side at the start of lay low.  good thing that drum beat is on a loop. =)  they got everything together and it rocked.  not too much chatter from jim, though we were thanked for coming out on a monday night instead of "staying home and watching seinfeld or some shit..."  I think that's pretty close to what he said.

show started around 9:35 and I was in my car at 11:30 after it ended.  the sound was OK...i thought it was a bit muddy.  but, i was right back at the sound board under an over hang, so it may have been just right every where else.  the crowd was OK...not too many tobacco smokers in my area, some guys got tossed for  lighting up non-tobacco, not many dancers as is typical down here in DC. =(  That didn't stop me though.

Alright...time for bed and a few too many meetings later today before heading back to the 9:30.

SiOuxTribe

Great show at 9:30.

My friend and I were speechless basically on the way home.   My Morning Jacket owns live, hands down. Period. The End.
I was very front row in front of Jim.  Tommorow I want to be front row again.
I agree, not many dancers, and what not, a little awkward if your the band playing and seeing a bunch of blank stares and nodding heads.  Doesnt mean they arnt enjoying it though.  Some of my friends stand like rocks at rock shows but after the show won't shutup on how much it rocked.
I was rocking out though as much as possible without knocking too many people down.

That acoustic song was Bermuda Highway, the first song of the Encore.

my face totally hurts from smiling so much.
couldn't believe it was over when it was and definately cannot wait until tomorrow night.
thought dancefloors was epic.

SiOuxTribe

Yeah, I rocked out pretty nice for most of the songs but once DanceFloors hit the orgasmic rock out part of the song, I was feeling mighty happy all over.

Anyone notice the funny moves Jim was doing and crazy Skeletar boots he was wearing?
During one of the last song, I forget, he was doing high kicks during the accents of the song.  Hilarious.

lol!  jim was doing the snake.  and yes the boots were nuts.

i thought it was an excellent show.  the sound wasnt as clear as the last time they played 930, but i thought this show rocked a little harder.

quinn

those boots were great.  thought they were just funky moon boots at first but my friend was convinced they were some sort of skeleton thing.  when we got up front we saw she was right.

i was curious if they were something he'd been sporting most of the tour??

i think the kick moves were during magheetah...thought an audience member was gonna get a skeletar boot to the face a couple of times.

NoVa_NoLa

The "stand still crowd" is tough to get used to and I've been down here for a couple of years now.  On the flip side, I thought the crowd was very attentive--very little talking.  They were into it...just not physically so.  :)

I couldn't see the boots from the back of the room.  Maybe tonight I'll get there for the start of the Slip so that I can get a rail spot.  I'm very tall, so I tend not to hog vertical space near the front of the room for too long.  I can see pretty well from the back.   :)

i'll be there tonight, moving as much as i can...was it cramped? 930 can get a little hot n nasty when its too crowded.

SiOuxTribe

It was nice, but i guess I had breathing room in front.  It looks a bit crowded when I glanced backwards.  It has to be a million times better than the Virgin Festival.  That was hell.

QuoteGoing into tonights big show, I thought I would post a few interesting statistics based on the tour so far after the first 10 nights.  Only 10 shows so far and this is what they havn't played yet from their four studio albums!!!!!

Z
Into the Woods
Knot Comes Loose
ISM
Masterplan
One In The Same
AD
Death Is The Easy Way
Just Becuase I Do
If It Smashes Down
Strangulation
TF
If All Else Fails
It's About Twilight Now
Evelyn Is Not Real
War Begun
Picture Of You
I Will Be There When You Die

Also, I don't remember anyone mentioning this but when they played two nights in Dallas they played 21 songs both nights.  Of these 21 songs only 12 were repeats!  Those 12 were the 8 "Z" songs and the other old standbyes, Mahgeetah, OBH, Run Thru and Golden.  So basically, they didn't repeat a single song except the songs that are pretty much locks on a nightly basis.  So if you went to both shows you got to see 30 different songs!  Out of 39 played so far!(Lucky SOB's).

What I would give to hear Knot Comes Loose!!! It is one of favorite songs, and I am keeping my fingers crossed for the second night at the 9:30 Club. I know its unlikely because I don't think they have ever played it in concert, and I would imagine another old song before another one from 'Z'. So far they have not let anyone down on this tour. Last night was just sick! I know tonight is going to rock as well!

They've played KCL before (not this tour) but they've played it.  They played the entire Z album front to back the second show in Philly 2005.
makes much more sense to live in the present tense

For serious?! thanks for giving me a little more hope!

RedPatokaSea

I fucking love this band!!!

Got there early, front row, against the barricade, and ended up being in the perfect position near Jim James' setup on the right.   Jim James was rockin' out literally inches from me!  Their show is just meant to be experienced.  It's God damn religous.  That was my second MMJ show, with many more to come.

I have to say the crowd up front was pretty into it, but the back and balcony looked pretty lame.  If you want to really feel the energy, get there early!  It's worth it.  I was loosing my shit many times, especially during the mentioned "orgasmic rock out part of dancfloors."

The encore was mindblowing.  I Think I'm Going to Hell and ending with Run Through ... it was intense.  The damn whole show was mindblowing!  I wish I could be there tonight.  I missed Steam Engine.  For another time I suppose ...

And SouixTribe, I think I met you.  I had the Bonnaroo '06 shirt on.   May we meet again at another jacket show.

Emmer

The 9:30 show was awesome!  I wish I could be there tonight.  I was also right next to the stage on Jim' s side and it was very intense for me.  I hardly stopped dancing the entire time. I absolutely loved the boots and his funky moves! I think Lay Low was the highlight for me, but the entire show rocked!  Looking forward to Philly!  :D
I'm drinkin'  cold, cold lightning with the bugs in my hair....

Ok.  Nothing that I can type would even come close to tonight's show.   All that I can say is that I believe.  I am wearing the Jacket. I am wearing the Jacket.

NO joke, no description necessary for me. i was dancing my ass off crammed near the bar on the right.

i know run thru is epic by nature buuuuuut this one takes the cake for me. HOLY MOLY did they just play "they ran"? super sweet.

im smoked right now, body crumbling, mind shaking but its all good cause that show was dominant.

I LOVE MMJ.

MOther of God! I have never been so happy to get a ticket for a show. I bought mine yesterday off someone in Dupont. What a show, and for my second show ever I feel blessed! Off to nine hours of work... Thanks for the setlist.
One Love!

Half

my neck is sore from DC night 1 :(
but i done went and plum forgot it

robbieg

My brain is sore from two nights of sonic bliss. I love the 9:30 club, these 2 and Broken Social Scene are easily the best shows I have ever seen there.
