let's start with the basics:
opener was elvis perkins playing with a a band whose name i've forgotten but was FANTASTIC.  boy howdy, from the trombone-->harmonium-->drummer playing harmonica-->upright bass-->wandering bass drum-->great songwriting  i dug these guys.  nice!

mmj was led onto the stage by the bear, who was carrying the battery powered candlestick from the night before.  quite the processional.  :)

here is the setlist:

it beats 4 u
gideon
wonderful man
o is the one
masterplan
laylow
heartbreakin man
lowdown
golden
dondante
bear  (here the bear came out again, swayed a little, then held a pose for the entire song)
wordless chorus (bubbles!)
off the record
twilight
one big holiday

encore:
nashville to kentucky
rolling back
steam
mahgeeta
anytime

oh man.  somehow an inflated kangaroo, about 2.5 ft tall made it onto the stage at one point.  i can't remember during which song...the band moved it around the stage, booted it around...comedy.

but.

WHAT A STUNNING SHOW!! i was down front tonight.  danced and danced.  tonight they just burned the place down.  i wore a huge smile the entire show.   :D
met up with chief crowe and his friends: we discussed costume options for tomorrow. 8-)

one bummer:  i was standing right in front of jim's amp.  after the first or second song he signaled the mixer to boost his monitor which then overpowered his vocals (briefly) and some of the other instruments.  couldn't hear carl's sax until the guitar was just about out in dondante.  it wasn't a big deal for most of the night, just a couple of songs.

at the end of the show i just wanted them to keep playing.  made me very happy to have tix for tomorrow and next week in southern california.  WOOT!

also:  two tone was wearing some great shoes, and jim was sporting a suit:  jacket, vest and tie.  dapper!

Remmi

yeah. this shit was sick, nasty, indecent. i loved every bit of it. james commanded the solos, carl beat his guitar, two tone swayed and dropped the pounding bass, bo raged the keys with authority, and patrick ripped the heads off his drums.
this band fucking rocked shit with extreme prejudice.
long live rock n roll.
rolling back. nashville to kentucky. steam engine. one big (badass) holiday.
O is the one. the bear. wow!

had a fucking blast, guys. can't wait for the HEAT tomorrow.
Dieu et les Dames.

Glad to hear you had a great time!   :)

Ms Yvon, another wonderful review. My highlight had to be Rollin Back, it was my only wish for this run, I really was astounded at how beautiful it was live....and then to have it roll right into Steam Engine was almost too much - in a good way! Long live the Jacket and their fans!

Thanks to Bruce, I have a setlist! (Thanks so much!)
But seein you feels good, and its always understood.
That anything much sweeter would make me die.

ms. yvon

looks like this setlist came from the mixer...cool to see it annotated.

Did anyone else notice that Jim was sporting the skull platforms on Saturday night? Sah-WEEET!!!!

And his dance moves - oh! Both nights we saw (Sat and Sun) he was boogie-in' around the stage with his sweet little trip-hoppy-JJ moves here... a little slidin like James Brown there. Truly, Jim is opening up like a lotus - the first time we saw MMJ, Jim stood in one spot all night and his hair covered his face and I didn't see anywhere NEAR the personality that I have seen lately (past 2 years). I am SO diggin on the new-found expression he and the band have! I regret not having seen Friday night's glitter/cotton ball performance... I swear I will not miss another one of their shows if I can help it at ALL!

AND, someone has GOT to share how to get aftershow passes. How much blood do I have to spill? LOL  :-?  I talked with Tommy's new-wife's brother, the wife of the band manager with no luck. Everyone says "You have to get them on the website." What exactly is the big secret???

BEST weekend of my life...
-i got a fever,
and the only prescription
is more cowbell!

one year ago tonight...

just wanted to go back and read about this show.  at this time last year i was just setting off on an epic mmj run.  :D  what a great time!  in the intervening 12 mos, i've met so many of you fab kids in person.

my travels have been curtailed this winter, so no live shows for me.  (i work in television (post production), and was laid off 3 weeks ago due to the unsettled writers' strike.)  so, for the next couple o'nights i'll be blasting recordings of last years mmj fillmore shows, wearing my ba-ba-bananas-nanas t-shirt and waking the neighbors!   [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif] [smiley=beer.gif] [smiley=grin.gif]

WOW!  Can someone tape this?  I'd love a copy.  Can trade just above any MMJ audio or video for it.

HOLY SMOKES!!  *now racking mind for list of friends with possible concert tv access*

I think maybe she was a little confused.  I could be wrong.  I have ConcertTV on Charter and right now they have a 30 minute program with 4 or 5 selections from OKONOKOS.   Which, as you know was from the Fillmore the year before the NYE shows.   Again, I hope I'm wrong but I think we would have heard about this if it was NYE 06.
