RCMH - Beware of security

Last weekend I saw Ween in my first concert at a theater-style venue.  I'm not a huge Ween fan to begin with, but I agreed to join a friend/fanatic thinking it would be fun regardless.  Anyway, the vibe in the Carolina Theater in Durham was pretty tense because of the security.  People were pissed, and though I never had the desire to dance on the balcony or get close to the stage, it wasn't pleasant watching agitated fans get dragged away.  It was a battle ... I'm sure more than a few got kicked out.

Getting to the point ... I'd just bought my MMJ tickets to RCMH that day, and I'd been wondering what the atmosphere would be like in a bigger, but still very classy venue like RCMH.  After looking up some mixed reviews of Arcade Fire show at RCHM, I'm sure the sheer awesomeness of MMJ will overshadow any crowd squabbles, particularly if you come in knowing what to expect.  I know I'm going to dance my ass off, and I've got an aisle seat Orch XX, so security better keep their hands off me.

Here are a few amusing/frightening post-show fan remarks from Arcade Fire ...

Quote"i wound up spending more time listening to fights between drunk douchetards and security guards than i did actually getting to hear the band. fucking waste."

"I'm pressing charges against the RCMH security guard who threatened to punch me in the face."
"Last night's show was terrific and the crowd went crazy. The militant security was a major buzzkill, though. Arcade Fire need to re-think their venue selection next time around."

"my seat was 2nd row pit, on the right side, and i had the isle seat. safe to say RCMH has absolutely the worst security of any venue in NYC. by worst i mean belligerent, power-drunk assholes who "play it by the book". I went to String Cheese / Bob Weir there last year and they were ejecting people for throwing lightsticks! One security muscle man came up to me and said you throw another stick and you are ejected. the reason i got picked out is i was closest to this guy and i was on the aisle.

Yesterday- one guy came up on the left isle to the stage i think three guards tackled this guy and i saw him get put in a head lock. if you were in the pit the guard were making us stay in the seats, some guy on the isle opposite of me wanted to walk up to the stage and the security was waving him off go back to your seat. and it looked like they could have filled a lot more people in that pit area. it was ridiculous. one guy wanted to know the name of chief of security and that he would make sure this would get in the press and they were like take a hike, "head of security?- fuck you!"
thats how it was. they ruin the experience for the people. Beacon Theater, or even United Theater, much better experience in similar size venue."

"FACT:  70% of security guards listen to DISTURBED before shows to get themselves "all pumped up.""

Fortunately not all reviews were negative ...

Quote"I was in the second mezzanine, and I have to say: Best concert of my life! Amazing energy both onstage and in the audience. I've never seen an audience so excited and moved. Lots of dancing. Loads of singing from the whole place."

"The show last night at Radio City was incredible. I was in the top mezzanine and still it was so immediate and cathartic. I really felt the energy from the crowd all around -- everyone was really into it, dancing and having a great time."

So, anyone here seen a concert at RCMH?  What do you all think?

I have been to Radio City for a lot rock concerts and have never had problems with security.

Also I was at that Arcade Fire show and part of the problem was that the band kept encouraging the crowd to rush the stage and get as close as possible.  Which caused tension between the audience and security.  Also there were a lot of drunk douche bags at that show. One even threw up a few seat down from me before the Arcade Fire went on and then left.  Security then sent some one to clean it up which I thought was really cool.  Then during the show I had no problem rocking out and partying.

So I guess what I am say is don't worry about it. This is going to be a great night and very special. Radio city is a beautiful venue and I think the band is very excited to play there.

As a person who has seen several shows on the east coast, from small clubs, to medium venues, the biggest problems come from those who simply cannot control themselves if they partake in drink or herb before/during the show. in Asheville last March, some drunk loser >:( was CURSING Jim & Co. because they did not play his song...This is my first chance bringing new MMJ lovers to an experience of their life so Be cool and don't ruin it for others or you might be ejected off the 3rd MEZZ.     PEACE 8-)

I saw a show at RCMH about 5 years ago and there was no problems.
