i'm camping out the night before to beat both of you there!
If you're lucky, MMJ will fill the void you didn't even know you ever had. If you're luckier, you'll get to see them live.

i'm going tonight and setting up camp, but i won't say what time.  so there!

but seriously, people, let's get down to brass tacks:  Who's taping this shite!?!

Kory

I tried to get Brian to send his taping gear, but I don't think he'll do that. There are a couple people I could hit up maybe. I'll get to asking. I'm leaving now with my tent, see you when you get there guys, I'll be first.

there's a taper in louisville who has taped a lot of shows at the rud, i wonder if he'll be there or will help us out, i think he goes dmbtaper7654 or something like that.  maybe i'll try to hit him up when i get home.  someone HAS to tape this!!!

cmccubbin@work

i'm going to bring my digital camera.  with a 2 GB memory card i can take almost 1.5 hrs of video....it would be sweet if we could sync the taped show and the video (this is assuming of course that i don't drink too much and/or don't get tired of holding the camera up 90 min.!!!)

I can take my videocamera. I wonder if that would be cool to videotape if it's not a full on mmj show? I may have a MD recorder from a friend to borrow. Not the optimum sound quality but surely better than nothing. George Savage does some great tapes with his MD recorder.
Doo Wop may also rent, I'll check.

The taper you may be thinking of is Jon Ice, I think...

yeah, jon ice, that's him.

it's possible to get good sound from a camera if it comes down to it.  I think the mmj video policy has always been don't ask don't tell, so let's not talk about that anymore.

the doo wop shop is a great idea but i don't know if they rent that kind of equipment or not.

i think i was thinking of you, kory, didn't you used to be dmbtaper5434?  Or maybe you don't want to own up to that title anymore.  jon ice goes by iceman8888 i think.  i'll try to track him down.

i wonder how much jim will perform with ron and sarah.  this is going to be amazing!!!

VERY AMAZING!!!

what are the chances of hearing some very rare tunes?

what covers do you predict?

I wish I was a taper... my email is dmb1991 and has been for years in one form or another. I have spent my fair share of time around the dmb community some years back but drifted away as the creativity faded.

Hey guys. I'm leavin for Bloomington IN/Louisville on Wednesday. Some questions for locals-
Are there any places I should definitely check out? I'm vegetarian so no local rib joint advice needed. :) I'll probably only be in Louisville Saturday night and Sunday. What time do bars close on Sunday? I'm assuming there may not be an awesome after party since it is a Sunday night.
Thanks! I'm so excited!

Somebody tell Kate where she can find a Veggiterian Hot Brown!   I read about that on another thread.  I downloaded the wikipedia recipe and I will explore the meat infested version sometime soon, but I'm sure the locals can make them a lot better than I can.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

BH

Holy crap, I can't even spell vegetarian.

Just got around to reading this thread....

Someone asked if anyone got ticket #34 - I bought 2 tickets at ear-x-tacy, and I just checked - I have #34 and 35.

Anyone still need a ticket?  I have an extra ticket available for face value $34.

jeffro79 - I absolutely agree with you re: "By My Car."  That is probably my favorite MMJ song.  Either that or "I Think I'm Going To Hell."

katehsmc - I'm a vegetarian local (Louisville) person.  Here are some ideas:

-I've been meaning to try this place - http://www.zengardenrestaurant.org/  It's a vegetarian Asian restaurant on Frankfort Ave (not too close to the Rud, but not too far either).
-I haven't been here in a while, but the food is really good here - http://www.thirdavecafe.com/ with lots of vegetarian selections
-Not strictly a vegetarian restaurant, but I like http://www.sapporojapanese.com/ - it's walking distance from ear-x-tacy, if you happen to go there (and it's a fun area to walk- lots of bars, restaurants, shops, etc)
-Lotsa Pasta on Lexington Road is a nice market/cafe/deli type place that serves several good hot and cold vegetarian sandwiches.  Plus, there's a Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen right next door - excellent desserts!

Stuff to see...
-There's a very cool park across the river from downtown Louisville - Ashland Park (in Clarksville, Indiana) has a great view of Louisville and can be a fun place to spend a few hours.  Other parks that I like - Seneca Park, Cherokee Park, Tom Sawyer Park, Tyler Park - I enjoy the parks here.  There's a nice ice cream place right next to Ashland Park http://www.louisvillehotbytes.com/widow.shtml  they serve food too (I forget what I ate there, but they had something vegetarian).
-ear-x-tacy - an excellent record store on Bardstown Road
-if you're into (minor league) baseball, the Louisville Bats have a very cool park downtown.  Not sure if there are home games that weekend
-if you're into bourbon, the Maker's Mark distillery offers tours, which I liked.  Not too far from Louisville.
-the recently fixed-up riverfront area downtown can be fun to walk around
-I'd personally advise staying away from 4th Street Live (an area of bars and restaurants downtown), unless you like overpriced drinks and bad music so loud that you can't hear the person next to you.
-O'shea's Irish Pub is a nice bar/restaurant, with several other options nearby, including Wick's Pizza.  http://www.osheaslouisville.com/

Hope this helps.  Let me know if you want more recommendations for specific things to do/eat.

Also - regarding the discussion of taping the show - I have some taping equipment that I would consider loaning to a reponsible person.  It's nothing too fancy, but it is certainly better than the audio from a digital camera, etc.  I haven't used it in a long time (several years), but I have a MiniDisc recorder, Core Sound binaural microphones (they're small with little clips to attach them to stuff), and a bass rolloff filter.  I think I have a handful of spare MiniDiscs lying around that could be used.  Anyway, I'd be willing to loan this to someone who wants to record the show.  I used to record shows all the time (beginning with Month of Sundays and Metroschifter shows when I was in high school in the mid-90's), but I have very little time lately (and really, much less interest as well) to record shows.  The process of transferring the MiniDisc to CD (digitally) and inserting track markers is really what takes so much time.  I'd consider recording the show to MiniDisc myself and letting someone else master it to CD/SHN/FLAC/whatever, but I'll be bringing a few cameras to the show, and the shutter sound could potentially get a little annoying in the recording.  Anyway, if someone wants to borrow my gear - please let me know.  Thanks!

I just remembered - I also have a DAT recorder which could likely be used to record the show.  However, it is NOT a portable DAT recorder - it's a big DAT recorder/player (as in the type one might have in their home stereo setup).  It's the size of a VCR.  If someone wants to lug that around and locate a power source for it, I'd also be willing to loan it out for the show.

so my GF called the Rud to ask about dinner for this show.  he said they are giving everyone beans, cole slaw, and a piece of cornbread!  how strange!!!  this had to be Jim's idea!
