Does anyone know if this show is general admission or reserved seating?

Crispy

The way it usually works at red rocks is that the 1st 25 rows are GA, then 25-50 are reserved, and from 50 to the top is GA. Weird, but that's the way they've always done it. Don't bother getting a reserved seat, you can easily get down to the 1st 25 without getting in line too early. I'm sure there will be a great crowd but I doubt that it will sell out either.

DaFunkyPrecedent

i dunno..it may sell out.  MMJ have been getting more and more fans recently...like A LOT more.
God damn those shaky knees.

biggest mistake i ever made at a mmj show was getting there really early and getting shit faced and having to take a piss every like 20 minutes.  This especially sucks ass when you are standing like 5 feet from the stage.

And on my wife's birthday! How did I pull that off? (grin) What a great way to come home from work.

I envy you folks that have never been there before. You're in for one of the best evenings of your life. I have friends fly up every year just for a Red Rocks show. Their first show is always their best. I'm taking some friends up from Ohio the week before to catch their first show there, Steely Dan. A few years ago, another friend was sobbing during Guiniverre during the CSN&Y show. He was just overcome with the music and the majesty of it all. (Maybe the "altitude" had something to do with it as well.)

MMJ's show there last year opening for Bob's first night was written up in the local paper as "face meltingly loud". It was a wonderful set and I think the band was really enjoying it. Red Rocks seems to really inspire band and fans alike, a whole nother level. On a good night, it just levitates. My favorite place in the world.

Welcome to Red Rocks. Welcome to my backyard. Crank it up to 11.

Be seeing you all.

Just a note about the GA and reserved seating to compliment the prior post. I like to buy a reserved seat, they are usually on a few bucks more. You can prolong the tailgate and you don't have to camp out on the ramp to run inside and drink $7 beers until showtime. You can just come in right before the show and if there is room in the GA, you can move down into it. You don't have to worry about a seat. Sometimes the shows are all reserved.

This show is also late August and the weather can be a little unpredictable. It may be hot during the day but cool at night. I usually pack in some rain gear and a sweater. Bring an extra poncho and you'd be surprised how grateful someone who might need it will be. Red Rocks audiences are great. Plan on spending some time up in the south lot. Above all, be nice to the old farts.

What hotfoam says is true, and it's usually what I end up doing too - at least the tailgating and late arrival part anyway. However, for My Morning Jacket I'm going to be camping in line to get down front. I would have been there last year if I had not had to wait for my buddy to get off work. Arg! It worked out fine anyway, we had no problem getting down to row 20 even after some tailgating.

Another great thing about Red Rocks is the space - the amphitheater benches are plenty wide (fore and aft), so it's pretty easy to get out and back to empty the bladder and refill the beers!

Yes, always bring rain gear to Red Rocks, no matter how great the weather is before the show! See you there hotfoam!

We learned the hard way. My first show there was Neil Young on the Friends and Relatives Tour. You can view it on Live at Red Rocks DVD. We went in in shorts and by the time the encore rolled around it was trying to snow! Just prepare for it. Bad weather shows there have been some of the best. I saw one band there (who I won't mention for fear of embarrasment) in a cloud in August. It was unreal.

What lot do you usually tail gate in? Maybe I'll tie a balloon on the car and you can come by and I'll drink a beer with you.

QuoteDamn!  Headlining red rocks!!!!  I wish I could make it.  you all have to represent!
echoing d's sentiment!

SOUNDS FANTASTIC! :D

We had that same kind of weather at an Allman Brothers show there 2 years ago. I had my raincoat but my gf did not - guess who did not wear the raincoat. And I see most shows there in a cloud. ;)

I usually end up in the upper north lot, but I'm not sure where I'll be this time, getting there early. I'll definitely catch up with you then and we'll crack some cold ones!

this is another Black Keys date: Aug 7 - McCarren Pool, Brooklyn, NY

I was thinking yesterday if this could be where MMJ would play in NYC during the summer.

This is topping a legendary concert summer for the Mile High City.....
