So, being a newbie (and definitely not a bandwagoner), I was wondering what the scene at a MMJ concert is like. I grew up seeing the Dead and Phish, so I am use to large groups of people partying before and after the show. The last show I saw in NYC was most likely a Phish show at MSG. So what should I expect with the scene at RCMH? I was wondering if people would like to share with me their experiences with MMJ concerts...

For example, THE 40 WATT.....

Sweating, Smiling, Dancing, Singing, Smoke, Sticky, Bumping, Magic, Lights, Sounds, Vibrations, Dry Humping, High Fives, Loss Of Bodily Functions, Introductions, WTF's, Some Stand Up Comedy Routines From The Lead Singer, The Drummer morphing into a Hair Tsunami,

Then when it's all over......

Basically, a bunch of people trying to figure out what the fuck just happened.  :)
There's Still Time.........

The crowd is great. Not many people singing along obnoxiously. Not many pushers, not many beer spillers. There does tend to be some pseudo-hairbanging and some literal face melting.

As for the band. Be attentive to what Jim says. He's usually being sarcastic, always has something funny to say. Keep an eye on Patrick, as that man is absolutely amazing - he even dances on a couple of songs. Two Tone Thomas is probably my favorite to watch, for some reason. He just has a certain passion behind his bass. If any of the guys slip on a chord, watch for the other band members to mock him, even imitate him.

You're gonna get rocked.

Take out the 40 Watt and insert concert venue of choice. That's pretty much every bonerriffic show no matter where you go.

Last show I went to, my seat was seperate from my friends. After every song I would look down towards them, and they looked like they were gonna burst into tears, then hump each others brains out. It's that magical.

Damn, I need more friends.

What about the scene before the show and after the show? Do people party in the streets areound the venue?

RCMH will be a totally different animal...i'm sure it will not compare to the 40 Watt, Blue Cats, the Orange Peel, etc.

i'm really not sure what to expect either.  this will be my 11th Jacket show, but first in a venue of this size.

the Louisville Gardens show from 2006 was weird b/c the crowd was sitting and standing and half the a$$holes standing around were talking to each other about how cool they were since they were at a MMJ show.

i'd say RCMH will be like this...you will have peeps standing, you will have peeps rocking out furiously, you will have a$$holes talking the whole time, you will have drunkards like me singing every single word (badly of course) and spilling beer on my friend, and then you will have peeps sitting the whole time...it will be mix.

I've been to one show at RCMH, and never to a my morning jacket show.  I saw bright eyes, there wasnt any dancing obviously and everyone was sitting majority of the time.  RCMH is all seats so I don't expect to see any big sexy dance parties but perhaps several rows of them?  lots of people were getting up at the bright eyes show to get drinks and such.  The venue is really pretty and after listening and watching Okonokos several times I predict that the floor will be thick with melted faces so you may want to wear rubber boots
Oh I'll never say I knew you, but my heart can't wait to meet you on the other side

I have the oportunity to see MMJ for the first time this year at Pemberton Festival. Just wondering what they are like at a festival. Should I expect a more to the point set? All i can say is finally they are coming to western Canada!
The fact that my heart's beating,
Is all the proof you need

I've ben to many shows at RCMH. From Arcade Fire to the christmas spectacular to the katrina benefit.  It all depends on the crowd.  The crowd rocked out at Arcade Fire.  I saw Oasis and the Crowes and it was half and half. and Mark Knopfler's crowd sat the entire show (as expected). I love to rock. MMJ at Roseland in Nov '06 was epic and raw and hopefully we've been able to mobilize 5000 jacketheads to rock out the corner of 49th and 6th! The one thing zero board member will complain about at RCMH are the acoustics. It's the most pure sound you are going to get. I might not be able to sleep all week gearing up for this. I only wish I was in Tennessee this weekend!

Nice. Man, you always sum it up wonderfully!!!  :)

Always will remember as long as I can, walking into Roseland and feeling the electricity in the huge room and having the biggest grin on my face.

Check out the thread from the New Years Eve show in San Francisco.  3 spectacular nights on perfect performance art.  There are references to dancing  to Phone Went West all thru the weekend to the stroke of midnight dancing to Highway to Hell and of course Wordless chorus.... the light show is always fantastic for indoor shows...have fun  8-)
