It'll be my first Metallica show so I don't want to skip too much of it.
Is anyone else afraid of passing out during the three hour stint?
Quotemy plan as of now is to check out Metallica for about an hour then head over to get a good spot for MMJ.

I'm not afraid to skip too much of it.  It may be a 3-4 song swing-by for me, then head over early to camp out at MMJ.  I'm not worried about passing out...I'm worried about not finding fungus for the amazing light show.

my biggest debate is the levon is playing the same time as jack johnson and kanye....kanye i'll never have another chance (as i wouldn't pay money to see him) and levon is just a legend---and on a smaller stage which is cool...

I'm staying until Levon excuses me.  There's no telling who will be jamming with him, either!  I missed him in Nashville last year and I thought I'd never forgive myself.  I can't seem to be able to make it to Woodstock, either, for the Midnight Ramble Sessions, so that Bonnaroo night, I am all Levon's...well at least my ears are.

yeah, watching the last waltz 5 times in the past couple weeks and a bunch of online stuff on 'dirt farmer' i pretty much have to stay at levon until he's done...okay, you've convinced me! i've never seen him before, i'm gonna put kanye out of my mind and give Levon his due respect !!

I think you will be satisfied with your decision, Ms. PennyLaneNYC.  And who knows...maybe I'll see you there.  Prolly wouldn't know it if I did, but maybe.

yeah maybe i'll see you! if you wanna meet up, let me know. i'll be the one on mushrooms!! haha
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

I plan to see Levon too then head over to Jack.  I expect Levon to kick ass,I just grabbed his new disc, great stuff.  I would love to see Zappa but Levon aint going to be around forever, see him while you can.

As far as Metallica, I've been a fan since 1984 when I was a Freshman in high school, but  have had a hard time with all the post And Justice For All stuff.  Just my two cents, but as someone else said, they never disappoint live, so I think I will try to see the first half, and i have already read that they will not be playing any new material.  I expect lots of old stuff, perhaps stick as far back in the crowd as possible so I can escape and dash to MMJ.

leave early if you want a good spot, mmj>metallica.  why the fuck is metallica headlining bonnaroo.  weak weak weak and wsp.  at least the late nights are crazy and friday and saturday look pretty jam packed.  it'll be fun though, Metallica is going to bust a nut if there's a glow stick war, they'll patent it and we'll never be able to have them again.

Here is the setlist they played just about 1 month ago.  It was for a benefit and Flea(RHCP) played with them.  I'd not skip out too early as Chris Rock is playing between the 2 bands.   How funny can comedy be when delivered to 150,000 people?  This is one helluva setlist!!!!!

NIGHT 1:

Creeping Death
Fuel
For Whom The Bell Tolls
Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
...And Justice For All
Sad But True
Disposable Heroes
One
Master Of Puppets
Battery
- - - - -
Last Caress
No Remorse
Enter Sandman
- - - - -
Fight Fire With Fire (w/ Flea)
Seek and Destroy

NIGHT 2:

Creeping Death
Fuel
For Whom The Bell Tolls
The Unforgiven
And Justice For All
Sad But True
The Memory Remians
Fade To Black
Master Of Puppets
Battery
- - - - -
Wherever I May Roam
One
Enter Sandman
- - - - -
The Four Horsemen
Seek and Destroy
O, How time flies, with crystal clear eyes.  But it's cold, it's cold, when you're ending with diamond eyes.

I plan on leaving Metallica early. How early? I don't know.

Maybe we should all just form one big group before the Metallica show starts? That'd be hilarious for Metallica to see a mass exodus as the Jacketeers take their leave.

Don't get too emo on us.  The songs you've crossed out kinda show your lack of knowledge about their catalog as a whole.  Don't forget that there has NEVER been a better speed/heavy metal band.  Last Carress is a classic Misfits song, too.  I'll be the 1st to dog on Metallica for their poor effort over the past 10 years but their early stuff is that of legends.  I can't think of a band that i am more hopeful for a turnaround and reclaimation of their previous greatness.  yeah i can...
1. Metallica
2. Butthole Surfers
3. Tool

Dig these lyrics.  This is classic...

I got something to say
I killed your baby today
And it doesnt matter much to me
As long as its dead

Well I got something to say
I raped your mother today
And it doesnt matter much to me
As long as she spread

Sweet lovely death
I am waiting for your breath
Come sweet death, one last caress

Go

Sweet lovely death
I am waiting for your breath
Come sweet death, one last caress

Well, I got something to say
I killed your baby today
And it doesnt matter much to me
As long as its dead

Sweet lovely death
I am waiting for your breath
Come sweet death
One last caress

One last caress, sweet death
One last caress, sweet death

Oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh

i too have hope or the future of Metallica, the last cd was a valiant effort but not having bass player and having Bob Rock play bass was just a spoiler, plus his style of over production has grown stale.

Rick Rubin is doing this one, if he can save Tom Jones, he can save Metallica.

I hope Van Halen can get rick rubin to produce a new cd.  Anyway, the lack of new stuff totally changes things for me, they will tour heavily after the new CD comes out.  I can get a taste and split early it would seem and be pretty safe, so thats where Im am leaning.

Depends on how much you like Metallica.  Me personally if I was going (went the last 2 years, missing this one) I would leave Metallica before the encore and run like hell to My Morning Jacket for a good spot.

Bonnaroo if you plan and have patience you can be on the rail for any show!

I definately think this show is going to be amazing.  Is there a live webcast?

you are so right. that was temporary insanity--i just figured since i'd never pay to see kanye (who, btw, will probably put on an awesome show) whereas i want to make a trip upstate to see Levon at his home--and he tours a lot this summer so i figured i'd see him again- but you're right, he is a legend and won't be around that much longer. i will def see the full force of levon
