Will I need to miss metaalica to get up front for MMJ?   Or will I be able to how early will others be getting there,.

I've never been to Bonnaroo, but I would skip out on part of, if not all of Metallica to get up front for MMJ...  unless I was really into Metallica at that moment in time.  I saw them in 2004? and they were upstaged by Godsmack who was opening for them.  Hetfield didn't sound all that great and they didn't play anything from Kill Em All.  Maybe things have changed these days, hopefully?

...My Morning Jacket is 12 to 3...

I will probably leave Metallica at 11, or maybe a little earlier depending on how good or bad those guys are sounding. It'll be my first Metallica show so I don't want to skip too much of it. Meanwhile, I was at the 2006 show that MMJ put on, and I can tell you it was their absolute best performance. You don't want to miss it. There'll be some Jacketeers out there on the railing waiting for much more than an hour, so you'll at least have some folks to talk to if you decide to leave extra early.

Is anyone else afraid of passing out during the three hour stint? I've been sick the past couple of days (have lost 8 pounds in 4 days), so now all I can think about is whether or not I'll have the endurance to last through Bonnaroo.

WHAT?! I just looked at my iPod, and of the entire Metallica discography, 8 of the Top 15 most listened to tracks are from Kill 'Em All. If they don't play the raw shit, I'm gonna be leaving earlier than scheduled.

i am going thru the same dilemma---!! i think leaving metallica by 10:30 should still get you up front in time.

my biggest debate is the levon is playing the same time as jack johnson and kanye---jack i don't really care about, i'll see him again this summer....kanye i'll never have another chance (as i wouldn't pay money to see him) and levon is just a legend---and on a smaller stage which is cool...

but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

my plan as of now is to check out Metallica for about an hour then head over to get a good spot for MMJ.

I'm not afraid to skip too much of it.  It may be a 3-4 song swing-by for me, then head over early to camp out at MMJ.  I'm not worried about passing out...I'm worried about not finding fungus for the amazing light show.

I'm staying until Levon excuses me.  There's no telling who will be jamming with him, either!  I missed him in Nashville last year and I thought I'd never forgive myself.  I can't seem to be able to make it to Woodstock, either, for the Midnight Ramble Sessions, so that Bonnaroo night, I am all Levon's...well at least my ears are.

That was one of the albums that not only got me into heavy metal, but into music.  I was crushed that I didn't hear a single song from it.  Instead we got a song from St. Anger.   :'(

Oh, dear Lord in heaven. I don't even have St. Anger on my iPod. In my little fantasy realm, the Metallica discography ends in 1991.

yeah, watching the last waltz 5 times in the past couple weeks and a bunch of online stuff on 'dirt farmer' i pretty much have to stay at levon until he's done...okay, you've convinced me! i've never seen him before, i'm gonna put kanye out of my mind and give Levon his due respect !!

I think you will be satisfied with your decision, Ms. PennyLaneNYC.  And who knows...maybe I'll see you there.  Prolly wouldn't know it if I did, but maybe.

yeah if you have never seen Levon his set is not to be missed.  i have never seen Zappa plays Zappa so i am going to do my best to split time between both even though I have seen Levon.  Levon puts on an amazing live show.

i also want to check out Iron & Wine.  easily one of my biggest conflicts with this years schedule.

U really expecting that much stuff from Kill em All man?! Id think they would play Seek & Destroy, but I wouldnt expect much else...Id expect a handful of black album, a few of Justice and Lightning each, and probably at least a few from both load and reload

I saw them 10 years ago roughly, and I dont remember anything besides S&D, if they even played that

Unless they've done something about Which Stage, I'm gonna leave Metallica pretty early. Anybody remember the Flaming Lips last year? It was packed at least an hour before the show.
IT'S ALL FUCKIN' CHEESE!!

All I'm saying is that at the Roo '06, I skipped Tom Petty entirely and got to the MMJ tent at 8:30 to be on the gate. Wish I could gotten a taste of the Heartbreakers, but it was sooooooo worth it.

I waited for Stevie Nicks, then I left. Didn't get anywhere close to the front, though. Sadddd.
