Nice, the dark, rollin back and easy morning rebel.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Ya, slightly shorter set than usual. But the song selection was perfect for me, minus the omitted Sec Walkin.

I was really surprised to hear Lowdown, Cobra, Early Morning Rebel, The Dark, and of course, Rolling Back. All of which blew my mind away. The crowd really got into Cobra. Everyone around me, including myself, were up and dancing all around to that cool groove.

Jim's guitar in Phone Went West was incredible. I didnt want the song to end.

Overall, the show was solid, as usual. Jim had a different vibe about him than usual, though. Im not sure what it was. Favorite quote/paraphrase: "As the world turns and the winds of time blow by, the Marquee theater stands still like a monolith in the desert... Everlasting, never changing, everlasting Gobstopper..."

Wait... they opened with The Dark?!?!  I was driving to work the other night listening to that song, thinking about how fucking cool it would be if they opened with it.

Weird...  there was just a thread about this song and its played.  There was a big thread about War Begun and it got played.  I guess if we want to hear something we just talk about it here and eventually we'll get it.

That's the first "The Dark" in 2008.  And opening with it is just wierd.  It's extremely rare that "Evil Urges" isn't 1st or 4th.   It's almost like they just stuck the Dark on the front end out of nowhere.  Anyone get the hardcopy of the setlist?   That was the first Easy Morning Rebel in '08 not counting Bonnaroo.

Jim acting strange, The Dark opener, short setlist.   :-/

Nice opening with The Dark.

BH

So since Riverfront Park (A mere 17 shows) they have played every song on ISM, Z and EU except for Into The Woods and One In The Same.  Plus 15 songs from AD, TF and Other.

Who wants to start the Into The Woods thread? ;)

Ha! I said exactly that to my lady friend after viewing the setlist...then I scroll down.  ;D

I have taken a real liking to "Phone" ever since Da'Ville. It moves me.......

LOVE LOVE LOVE that they opened with the dark!  HOT DAMN!

that song is going to be in my head all afternoon.
"i don't mean to brag, i don't mean to boast, but we like hot butter on our breakfast toast."

LowDownLuvDawg

"trapped in gasoline, a lizard on a string, no one ever screams anymore ITS CALLED THE DARK!!!"  What a great opener! I always wanted to hear that... and easy morning rebel HOT DAMN

The DARK

The Dark works great as an opener. Starts uneasily, gets frantic, then settles into a nice groove.

No Run Thru though. Time constraints?
In another time, in another place, in another face

Sherpa

The whole thing was surreal. I kept grabbing my friend and screaming, "they never play these songs!".  She didnt seem to register my exclamatory tone.

The Dark was a perfect opener for us MMJ junkies. The intro has that weird voodoo sound, which some people must have been tricked out by. It really was a special moment. They rocked it hard.

I called my buddy right after the show and told him that they played the golden oldies -- and I dont mean OBH and Golden. That alone convinced him to make the drive this week to san diego.

Easy Morning Rebel was played so well that it seemed they had been using it at every previous show. It was very cool.

After last night I have just about seen all of mmj's repertoire.

thanks guys

Oh shit! They brought back The Dark as an opener!!!  They opened with that the first time I saw them in 99.  If I was at this show my head may have exploded.

I'm sorry but the phoenix show was not the best we all have bad days I just had to b honest. Didn't anyone notice that mmj seemed to b bitching to the crew throughout the night

Sherpa

Not really.

The only instance was the confusion that led into the first encore. Jim and the crew were trading words over the guitar that was handed to him. They went back and forth until Jim just picked up and ran off stage.

Im not judging on theatrics, though. I came for the music, and as far as that went, I couldnt be any more pleased.

WOW!!! The Dark. I just wrote on here the other day how much I want to hear that. Lowdown, my girlfriend is exstatic. If she doesn't hear that in Port/Sea... I don't want to know.
The fact that my heart's beating,
Is all the proof you need
