QuoteI'm in. And friggin stoked.  To be honest,  I would have gone if it was for Mccain.  Just because I'm not voting for him doesn't mean I don't like the guy.  He served and sacraficed everything for our country. I look at it more like a donation to Jim James FLAGRANT BADASSERY !!!!!!

Exactly my thought!!!

I'd be surprised if Jim didn't play at an Obama benefit.

1.Man sees disaster
2.Man sees relief
3.Man supports relief effort

Obviously, unlike some others,Jim can count to three.

Let's not forget he's not just our own personal rock god but also a citizen of the United States who has a right to support any party, candidate,or cause however he chooses.Like the poster said before if you don't like it don't go.

Proud to be among the counting-challenged...
Say friend, you got any more of that good sasparilla?

We don't have to agree on the issues but it's essential to our civil liberties to agree that Jim has the right to play at an Obama benefit or any benefit of his choosing. When people say "shut up and sing" it's implying because he's an entertainer he doesn't have the same civil liberties as you and me.I wasn't implying those opposed to Obama were challenged but those denying constitutional rights to a person because of his occupation.
I don't agree with the political stance of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Kid Rock.I don't want to hear their pro Bush pro McCain views onstage therefore I don't go to their shows but I fully support their right to speak their minds.

I'm actually kind of surprised that anyone is surprised.  Jim already played with M and Conor at an Obama rally, and MMJ and the Red Rocks show with the Black Keys on the weekend of the Dem. Convention was no coincidence.

And who cares who supports who, I say.  If I had to agree with everything that the musicians I listened to believed in, I would have issues.  I mean come on, I don't believe that the space shuttle caused a hole in the ozone, but I still love Kory with a passion. ;)
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

I'm not surprised that you're suprised that he's suprised that anyone is suprised. But then again, I'm sure you're not surprised that I'm not surprised that you're suprised that he's suprised that anyone is suprised.

Did you hear his new one yet? I love Mitch, was lucky enough to see him at one of his last shows.

I emailed the folks at Barack Obama and came up with a little more info...

"Your name is put on a list and then all you have to do is show up at the show with id."

"There will be about 200 people in attendance."

Hope this helps some people

I just wish everyone would think outside the box instead of wallowing inside of it.

So, just because his views aren't the same as yours, Jim James is not thinking "outside the box"?  How do you know exactly what his views are and how he arrived at them?  Don't you need to know those things before you can determine whether he is thinking inside or outside of the box?

FWIW, I'm totally excited for this.  My current concert schedule:

Neko Case (last week) > Hot Chip (last night) > Jim James > MMJ > MMJ > Fleet Foxes > The Uglysuit > The Notwist

Yeah, it's easier to just say that than actually justify your words, isn't it?

I decided to go to this not simply because Jim James is playing a solo set, but also because it's almost set in stone that Obama will take Illinois.  As a result, my single vote won't matter as much.  My $100 will likely help out his campaign more than my vote in a state which he is all but guaranteed to take.

bignewt

if my previous posts have not justified my feelings I am inarticulate or you do not, nor never will get it. Either way...

i rest my case.

Yeah, so according to you either Jim James should do what you think he should do or else he's guilty of not thinking outside the box.

Got it.  You = the determiner of "outside the box" thinking.

One week away. The venue is gonna be awesome, I think my garage is bigger, only 200 peeps at the show  :o.  I talked to a buddy of mine who has been there and he said it can get a little warm in there if it's a packed house, and the sound is good.  He also recommended a resturaunt next door to the venue called The Harmony Grill and Cafe.

We should be rollin in about 5:30, if there is no line to get in at the venue we will probably grab some chow before the show.

here is a picture I pulled from there website.

Yeah, if you've never been to Schuba's, you'll be pretty pleased when you get there.  It is TINY.  We'll all be close and be able to see well.  I can't wait.

Any cheap hotels nearby?  Even a motel is fine with me.  I just want to party and crash a little before I drive back to Louisville.
