Thanks for the pics.  Any recommendations for a nice place to stay for the weekend around the venue?  My wife and I are going to make a long weekend of it and haven't been to that part of Myrtle.  Let me know if you don't mind.

Keep in mind that my folks live there so I stay with them when I visit but from what I hear the Sand Castle on South Ocean Blvd is the nicest and cheapest place to stay. It's about 15 minutes from the HOB.

I JUST WANT TO SEE MY MORNING JACKET!!! i'm going to the show.  i'm a local of the area, and thanks to the stupid house of blues, that's the only venue in myrtle beach where you can see any decent shows- and not so decent shows.  house of blues, like any other craphead of a corporation, tries to wring all the change out of your pockets.  drinks and food are expensive, and they force you to go through tickemaster now- which is a bunch of shit!!!  what the hell is a "building usage fee"?  and the "convenience fee" is ridiculous for being forced to order tickets online.  then of course you have the "processing fee".  so i got two tickets to the show which should have been a total of about $60, but after all the BS fees you have to pay, it ended up being over $80!!  what a bunch of crap!  I JUST WANT TO SEE MY MORNING JACKET!!  guys- i beg you to NEVER use the House of Blues or any venue that forces you to go through ticketmaster!  your show back in 2006 at The Plex in Charleston, SC didn't force me to go through ticketmaster.  i repeat I JUST WANT TO SEE MY MORNING JACKET!!!!!! and cause i want to see y'all so badly, i paid the damn fees!  and WILL ALWAYS pay the fees to see y'all.  ok, now i get off my soap box to sell my arm and leg for gas money to get to the show....

Clarkwork,

Not that you're probably looking for this long of a drive after a show, but about 50 minutes north is Wilmington, NC.  My wife and I lived there for 3 years in the mid-90's.  It's got a great downtown that sits right on the Cape Fear River with lots of great food and drink.  just 15 minutes east of downtown is the beautiful sand of Wrightsville Beach, NC.
Like I said, it's not right next door, but if you would like any more info, just let me know.  If you're curious, you could stay one night in Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach area and then the night of the show stay a little closer to the venue.

Yeah,I hear you....the place will definitely drain your pockets, especially if you eat there. But given the price of other bands tickets, the 80 bucks is still pretty cheap to see your favorite band.Heck I even shelled out 20 bucks more for the crash the gate tickets to get in early. That's cheaper than eating there the day of the show to get in early.

thanks jellyfish.  you must be a natural optimistic.  i don't eat there either.  my friend got food poisoning from the last show we went to see together at the myrtle beach house of blues.  i've just had to see way too many shows there.  it's the only venue around the upper east coast of south carolina that brings in people i wanna see.  they've sorta got a geographical monopoly going on.  so not cool.  MUSIC SHOULD BE FREE! but my morning jacket's gotta eat, so i don't mind paying THEM for there awesome music, just not people take advantage of others!  so on an optimistic note....only 81 days to the August 31st show with My Morning Jacket!!!!!!!!!!

I actually had my bachelor party in Wilmington and have been there several times.  Love that place.  It would be great to visit there again, but we wanted somewhere close so we can really enjoy the show and walk back if needed.  Thanks for the info though and for bringing back the great memories of Wilmington.

Also, Jellyfish, thanks for the link to the hotel.  We actually found a nice place right near the HOB.  We're going without our 3 and 1 year old so just a simple room is all that will be needed :)

Also, can someone tell me more about the crash the gates?  We reserved a spot to have dinner there.  Yes I know it will be expensive but we never get to go out that much.  Is there another place that is nice to eat and just buy the gatecrasher or should we just eat there and get those seats?

When we were being seated for dinner the greeter told me about the crash the gates. She told me that buying these tickets would get you in even before the dinner receipt peeps. There only 10 bucks each and all you have to do is show up at 6PM and present them with your GM tickets.I purchased them at the box office which just happened to be open till 6PM,we got there around 5:30.I guess you could call the box office and purchase them over the phone.

So will they be playing outside/bar area or inside auditorium?  I would much rather see them outside.....every other concert with them has been outside (Langerado, Rites of Spring, Knoxville, etc.)

From my understanding it's inside.Outside is for house bands and local talent and there is not much room.

I haven't seen them in an inside venue.....I just hope they can 'translate' their energy into the confinement of one building

I will be there, though I agree that The Plex is a superior SC venue, based on the 2006 MMJ show.  Seriously tho, the Jacket needs to play some NC shows--how about a Raleigh show, guys?

Sadly, The Plex is closed.  :(

However, the Music Farm is a great place for concerts!  :D

OK........just saw Modest Mouse HOB last thursday night and was severely disappointed with the venue...aesthetically it looked amazing....

....but it was an EXTREMELY small venue for them and the acoustics were HORRIBLE!!!

PLEASE someone lift my spirits concerning this venue! :'(
