QuoteOK........just saw Modest Mouse HOB last thursday night and was severely disappointed with the venue...aesthetically it looked amazing....

....but it was an EXTREMELY small venue for them and the acoustics were HORRIBLE!!!

PLEASE someone lift my spirits concerning this venue! :'(

Did you buy the "crash the gate" or any other special ticket to get in early?  If so, was it worth it?  If not, how was it waiting to get in.  I have been there once several years ago for David Allen Coe and we had to wait in a long line to get in.  I just want to know if the $10 someone mentioned earlier was worth it or not.

Thanks, and feel free to dish out any other tidbits about the place or your experience also.

No, we arrived a lil later than expected (pre-boozing, etc.) and missed Dirty Dozen Brass Band  >:(  But strolled right through with a few minutes to spare before Modest Mouse hit the stage.  Like I said before, the acoustics imo will not do the guys justice....but I hope it fools me.  It was a packed house for the concert with ample walking room upstairs.  I LOVE Modest Mouse and have for years but the vocals, acoustics, and small venue size relative to their status just didn't tickle my pickle.  Overall I 'enjoyed' the experience, but it was definately NOT what I had expected!

Saying that, I'll still see the guys the 31st

OK, cool.  Just ordered tickets a couple of nights ago.  I have talked a couple of friends of mine in to going with me and this will be their first MMJ concert.  I think it will be great no matter the size.  This will be my third concert, Orange Peel (which was awesome!), RCMH the other weekend, and now Myrtle Beach.

By the way to anyone who may be looking for rooms.  Wife and I got a room at the courtyard Marriott at Barefoot for 79 a night including breakfast buffet for two adults and a king bed.  Pretty good deal I thought for Labor Day weekend.

Will be at the same hotel.  I thought that was a great deal as well.  Within walking distance and not that bad looking.

Just to give you all a few tidbits. The House of Blues is located in N. Myrtle Beach in Barefoot Landing (sort of a giant touristy outlet mall). Anyhow its located right across from Windy Hill (a section of N.Myrtle Beach). There should be plenty of hotels there...and they would be the most convienient to the venue. I have caught quite a few shows at the House of Blues. The only issue I have with the venue is you can get stuck in a shitty spot pretty easily and the VIP areas that someone was referring to earlier, actually blocks a good portion of  the balcony view. My advice would be to get there an hour or so before the doors open...and hit the floor. I got pinned in the back part of the balcony last year for the white stripes and couldnt see a lick of the stage. Hope this helps.

Good advice eleaf14.  I remember getting "stuck" around a beam or something in there at a concert and not being able to see good.

FYI about the courtyard rates I mentioned before; wife checked again last night for our friends and the rates are now 139 a night for the cheapest while the fairfield inn a mile down the road is 99 a night for the cheapest.  Not sure about any other hotels.  By the way, is anyone else going to play golf while they are down there?  And is there going to be a "gathering" somewhere before the show besides HOB?

Hell yes!  Seeing my first MMJ show at the Fox in Atlanta on Wednesday then heading to Myrtle Beach on Sunday for my second Jacket show in my life in 1 week!

Times are good.....

So what do you guys think, just get the crash the gate tickets or eat dinner there?  I've never been there, but I do want to get a good view. We have dinner reservations at the HOB, just because we would have to eat somewhere.

I got the crash the barricade thing.  I've never been to the HOB in Myrtle Beach, but for $10 you get all you can eat hot dogs and hamburgers with a chance of getting in a little early, sounds very good to me  :)

Can you get this even though I've already ordered regular tickets??

best thing about the HOB Myrtle Beach, is how small it is.  I saw the White Stripes last year and it was the smallest venue of the tour, we had a group of like 10 guys on a beach weekend and had a blast.  you won't be seeing MMJ in these small places anymore after this year (sadly). the acoustics aren't that bad, its just an old shoddy venue.

I'd agree that the food blows, but pay for dinner and hang out inside to make sure you get close and get in before the masses.  the "early dinner" and "crash the gates" people can be in the hundreds, especially for a show like this.  you want to be in those early groups to get close.

Completely agree, I was thinking about this the other day.

Totally worth the trip knowing this may be the best chance I have at getting close to the stage for awhile.

Can anyone help me and my girl out with 2 tickets?  You're my hero!
