Alright, perhaps my last post was juvenile but may I ask what type of response you expected from such a &(*&^ review?  I personally encourage comments that may be contrary to the commonly held opinions of many board members including myself.  Attempts at civilized online discourse certainly has its limits.  I do believe, however, that you have Carl Lewised over the line of propriety and into a realm of musical criticism that, in comparison, would warrant major tabloids to earn global awards for journalism

You should change the name of your blog and screen name to something more fitting like "Breathalyzer, Hair Sample or Piss Test."

May we all be blessed with such toxicology screening prowess.

Wow, struck a pretty negative chord in here.
First, I'll say that I have absolutely no evidence that James was high, drunk, tired, sad or sleepy in Austin. That's why I said it "seemed" like they were high, etc. I was only giving an opinion, because it was such a drastically poor performance - I couldn't help but wonder. If you went to that show, I'd be surprised to hear that it was anywhere near what they are capable of as a band.
Second, I'm a fan. And by all accounts, this one was a really good show and I've already said the same. I'm glad I went and I'd recommend it.

QuoteIn that Jambase Band of the Year article, there's a throwaway comment from Jim, calling drugs "overrated".  That's neither here nor there, but generally speaking, they've never struck me as a particularly hard-partying group.  They barely even drink alcohol on stage.

Your song titles are a little off too, SoundCitizen; it's "Touch Me I'm Going to Scream Part 2" not "Touch me or I'll Scream Part 2".

Other than that, you know, glad you had a good time and errrrythang.

James has also been quoted talking about how he has had some great experiences on hallucenogenics.  And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that! :D

Thanks for the correct song title. Fixed.

QuoteVery good show. I was very pleased, as the last time, I was disappointed. You can read my review here: http://soundcitizen.com/my-morning-jacket-concert-review/

One of the worst reviews I have layed eyes on in quite some time.  I am a writer and you sir, should be ashamed.

I would enjoy reading some of your reviews. Perhaps I can learn something. Where can I find them?

After seeing My Morning Jacket destroy the Riverside Theater a few months ago, it was an easy decision to make the trek to Chicago to catch one of the best live bands on the planet once more before the curtain goes down on 2008. No regrets. The set was packed with live standards and surprises, all within the beautiful confines of the Chicago Theatre. This one will be added to our favorite concerts of 2008, until then, check out our highlights...

This is the first of almost 2 dozen clips I took from the two shows. They are shaky ( some more than others ) but what can you expect
from a guy with a pretty decent buzz going, and having one helluva time?

Some are better than others, as I'm sober going over them know, the wide angle shots came out much clear(er) than the ones focusing on
any one random person or part of the stage.

Anyhow, I'm sure these will be appreciated in one way or another.

Not a problem at all, would have invited you sooner had we seen ya! And I agree, one of the most amazing nights of my life.

These are getting really pixellated from youtube, they are much more clear on the quicktime files.

bec you are a dick is all i can guess.

for anybody who picked up a poster at chicago--did they do the poster wristbands so you could pick up your poster after the show?

hizzo

No, they didn't on either night.  We had to carry our posters around with us.  It was raining on Saturday, too, so I was worried, but they put our posters in plastic bags to help protect them.

this is the first chance i've had to open the laptop since sunday's show.  i've read thru the previous posts here so i'll just add a few notes...

1.

SWEET MOTHER OF PETE!!  WHAT AN AMAZING NIGHT!

--they were on fire sunday!   to hear i will sing you songs AND remnants in the same set list is just nuts.  that these men can create such ethereal, breathtaking music and then blow the roof off the place 10 minutes later.

well, damn!

--on the way to the show i told wendy and allison, "i would love to hear at dawn tonight."  GORGEOUS!!

--nashville to kentucky.  with a saxophone.  AHHHHH!!  soo beautiful!  this was the song that killed me, flat out.

(it is 4:20 am on dec. 31.  i am trying to keep from writing the usual, verbose, song by song review here, but i'm having trouble.  must.  go.  to.  bed...)
--the open to run thru:  in my notes i scrawled:  RUN THRU  HOLY HELL OPEN!!  this song was a juggernaut from note one!

--of all the shows i've seen, this may be my favorite set list.  so varied.  and LOADED with stunners!!

it was fab dancing with salacious d & her pal!  we really lucked out having enthused people in the area.  i've got an evil plan, babe spotted me after the crowd and came up to say hello!

AHHHH!!!  i have so much more to say, but am willing myself into bed (my host's couch), with a "get fuzzy" book and some water.

one last note:  at the end of the show, allison said to me, "you lost your shit, didn't you."   ;D  yeah, maybe.   [smiley=beer.gif]
"i don't mean to brag, i don't mean to boast, but we like hot butter on our breakfast toast."

Dudley

WOW! I think that would have to be my favorite setlist of all time... Might have to trek my ass out to New York for tomorrow night.

the3penguins
