I hoped for a few oldies but it didnt really happen. Awesome show all together! ;D
As long as you keep a straight face...

Great show and an unbelievably great time.  The band seemed to have a blast and the covers added to the party atmosphere.  Different than most MMJ shows but can't imagine that I could ever spend a better New Year's Eve than the one I had last night.  MMJ is really at the top of their game;  GOTTA GET A TAPE OF THIS SHOW!!
was some shakin' and some record playin'

YES! They totally did and it was awesome.

Thought the setlist was perfect for the setting. I'm going back to bed now.

My poster made it home in tact too!

Saw two towers/stands that had microphones on it. I don't know if that was for CNN but could mean a good recording is coming

I think you have to see "Islands In The Stream" as one of those songs that are so hokey and bad, that they are actually cool many years later ....

But that "Move On Up" opening?

A little pee squirted out.

It was that amazing.
Thank you .... You've been a lovely audience ....I'll be here all week .... Try the veal!

My first Jacket show and I was blown away. When the lights came up I felt really sad about a lack of old school Jacket, but now that I look back it was a party night and in my opinion they had a perfectly arranged set list for such an event. Slow songs would have ruined the momentum. I have never, ever danced so hard in my life and they rocked like nothing else. Incredible. The balloons, the lights, the white tuxes and the confetti (that is still falling out of unknown places) made for an awesome evening. I was with a great group of strangers who quickly became friends.

The lack of Jacket rarities means that I will have to see them again live, but last night was a party night and they brought it. The covers were incredible. (The duet could have been axed, though...) Ooooohh, man what a night.

I have some good pictures to post once I get home.  Good to meet you ALady & Sass...Pennylane I will find you at the next show. And Kenny...I loved watching your hat bobbing in the pit.

When will they be back in the U.S.? I'm going...
Cow temperature.

The boys were just perfect ..  I wouldn't change a thing about the show.  We might not have been able to guess the covers, but that doesn't diminish their quality in any way.

Oh, and the Islands in the Stream duet with Nicole Atkins was one of the highlights for me.  I remember listening to that as a kid.  It definitely is a hokey song, and their stage version had a "Donny and Marie Show" vibe.

And Kool & the Gang ... how sick is that?

Yeah, we have to find a tape of the show.

I also have to comment that they were able to inject incredible energy into the more familiar songs.

It was an incredible show.

I danced around a lot and I could barely keep my hat on.  That's all I remember.

OK... with each sip of coffee... more memories start to ignite...

First, I've personally never heard Jim sing better than last night.  It's probably because of the long break and the two Chicago shows to warm up.  He was belting it out all over the place, in perfect tune, and looked to be in relative good shape - he moved around a lot more than I thought he would.

Half of the covers I didn't know, but those were some of the best moments and Jim and the band really showed what they can do.  The horn section scrambled my brain and forced me to dance in order to put it back together.  I hope they write more funky/jazzy songs of their own for the next album.

How awesome was Patrick during Run Thru?  Does he always do that thing where it looks like he's signaling airplanes?   ;D  Oh man, they were all fun to watch, and I didn't even notice the random bar scene behind the stage over to the side until someone pointed it out.  So glad to be in the pit.

Argh.... I have to check out of my hotel in 10 minutes.  I may comment more later.  Right now, I have to get out of NYC and need to consult Google Maps.

Happy new year!!

It was an incredible show.

I couldn't agree more. "Touch Me Pt 2" sent shivers down my spine.

It looked like the entire crowd was on its feet the entire time. Jacket just had us by the balls from the second they came out. Sure, there were some douchebags in the crowd (well, in the pit, anway)... but you have to assume you're going to see some frat boy morons there on NYE. Who cares? Get a little buzz going yourself and they're pretty easy to ignore.

I've been to the Garden a bunch of times, and I haven't seen a band get the whole place going like that before. Last night was, by far, the most jumpin I've ever seen it.

For those disappointed by lack of "rarities", fear not... MMJ will attack the Garden again! It is written. It must be so. I'm sure if they play MSG on a night that isn't NYE, the first time they've ever headlined an arena, their big comeback after the fall... they'll play some more rarities. But last night was a celebration! All the covers were perfect. And the MMJ songs they played were well-chosen and played in an honest, energetic style. Really incredible. One of the best shows I've ever been to.

And isn't that poster awesome!?! I love the gold. It's pretty.

That really blows about people talking and being general jerkoffs.  Having the show ruined by other people's actions is not cool.  My section was pretty chill though, I have to say.  I did notice the drunken frat boy syndrome, and a couple of video clips on my camera bear that out.

Some dude jumped over the railing into my row and almost squashed my poster, but somehow an invisible force field of awesomeness protected it.  It remained unscathed through the whole concert, and a train ride home.

My only regret is not getting a room so I come earlier and stick around afterward.   Also, my camera took great clips -- way better than I expected, and I wished I would have taken more.

I can't give enough thanks to ThePennyLaneNYC for putting together the meetup at The Ginger Man.  You rock.  There will be other shows, and I can't wait to meet other jacket fans.  They're like no other.

They came back strong, with renewed energy -- creative and otherwise.  This bodes well for the future of the band.  We are truly blessed.  Jim's not ready for the comfy Vegas gig just yet!! :D

How full was the Garden?  Attendance estimate?  I'm still basking in the glow of the Chicago shows, wish I could have been there last night.

It was packed except for the uppermost level (400?) was far less than 1/2 full, by my estimate

What an awesome show. Although we didn't get Steam Engine, the show was just magical and the crowd was great. The Jacket was very energized and the covers were just out of this world. The horn section was freaking amazing and really added to songs like Dancefloors and especially Get Down on It (how awesome was that). The whole band sounded amazing, most notably Jim.

The show was also enhanced by the cool people around me who were truly respectful of the band and clearly into them. I feel sorry for the people surrounded by d-bags, but what are you gonna do. I was just sad that this cool couple from Rhode Island in front of me had to leave right when Touch Me Part 2 was starting up.

Highlights:

- Lay Low

-Smokin From Shootin and Touch Me Pt. 2 (how cool were the lights and sounds during the intro to Touch Me?)

-Mahgeetah (as usual)

-Get Down on It

-Bring it on Home to Me

-One Big Holiday (once again, as usual)

The whole show was awesome and I hope everyone at the show had as great a time as I did. Great venue and I hope they play there again.

just to add to that, how about the hucking of glowsticks at the band? WTF?  Jim James and Nicole Atkins got pelted a whole bunch of times!   when pete townshend got pelted at MSG, he was ready about to kick the crap outta the wanker.  least they were gracious to ignore the bullshit but that pissed me off.

opening with "move on up was priceless" and the show was amazing, but "way to represent new york!"  i mean, cmon.

There were assholes throwing glowsticks in Chicago, too.  WTF is up with that shit?  What kind of loser thinks that's cool?

bluesky

really evil people with the glowsticks, though i liked the magic of them falling from the ceiling....evilness when they were thrown on stage.

but truly it was a great night! the energy was awesome!!! nice to meet more forum people. the jacket kept it up tempo and the covers were fantastic! what Jim couldn't give physically his tong made up for it. (if you were near the front i swear his tong was licking the audience) the guys seemed so happy and excited to play and hope Jim is getting better and better, he looks like he dropped some weight.

fast_willie_parker

When I hear Jim James yell "HIIOOOOOO!!!" I close my eyes and see this...

Where were you sitting? Because my brother and his friend jumped the railing in front of us onto the floor level at some point. haha. It was slightly to the left looking at the stage at the back of the floor level. I'll smack him for you if it was him.

Anyway, definately the best of the 4 shows I've been to so far. Still waiting for Steam Engine though... Totally worth the train/car ride home for 3 hours and getting home at 5 AM.
